@Everyone who replied to me. Samurai were loyal and were done as told by their ruler. so if told to randomly attack some neighboring village they done so. and as for mr im a swordsman so am i and ik alot about it to tyvm
WTF? Isn't it a parody (if it really is, I'm sorry, but it seems to be 'real')? This is what you call fight? I have nothing agains autor, but this is more a slapshow than fight.
@Crimsonwindsamurai Clearly, you know little about sword fighting. I do sword fighting like these guys in Portugal and i assure you, one of the most important factors in knights are the shield. Then comes the armor. Knights were excellent in medieval times.
Samurai's, first, there weren't many. Since Samurai were referred to as warlords. Their blades were of fine work. Enough to be compared to top quality European swords. But their armor was bad by using chainmail or scale most of the time.
@XxXDarkDrakeXxX : Actually the metal the japanese used was quite inferior to European metal. Though I disagree with you about the shield. As armor and weapon length increased, there was no practical use for a shield.
@Halofreakanoid The length of a weapon has little influence on the importance of a shield. Think about the phalanxe. They used spears together with shields. Long weapons like spears were the most common weapon in ancient and early medieval times and you cant imagine a viking or a greek fighter without a shield. Too high Weapon-weight, ranged weapons and the need for 2handed weapons (to penetrate the armor) made the shield unnecassary at least on battlefields). Modern Police still uses shields.
@Z0tteltier : I never said anything about length of weapon in proportion to shield. I said type of weapon based off how heavily armored. And I was specifically talking about swords, and knights as well.
@Z0tteltier : What I meant to say was "As armor increased, the length of swords increased, and there were less knights with shields because they did not need them as much. A knight in plate would be less likely to have a shield than one in maile.
@XxXDarkDrakeXxX While the shield is a very useful part of the knights armor for close quarter or mounted combat, the armor was still the more important than the shield as many nights went into combat with two handed weapons when dismounted so that they could penetrate armor
Also, there were lots of Samurai. Dozens would die in each battle and they were about equal in numbers to what England fielded in Knights. The standard common soldiers were Ashigaru, and they used a variety of weaponry
Lol whatever you say weeaboo. I don't think you realise how strong plate armour is, especially combined with a shield.
Just take it this way, if a Medieval English army fought against a Japanese army from the same timeframe, equal numbers on either side, the Samurai would have been slaughtered along with most of their other soldiers by Longbows alone, then the rest of the Japanese force would have been slaughtered.
@leesin666 Which explains the number of successful invasions upon Asia... or wait... no... Mongols came FROM Asia... and conquered almost everything... at a time when longbows didn't.... but oh, they existed. And, in case no one had noticed, these asian guys had excellent ranged weapons as well and were skilled enough to shoot them while the horse was running... enough said.
@kint909 Successful invasions upon Asia? Western Europe had its own super powers who fought eachother, they didn't care about 'Asia' neither tried to invade it.
Conquered almost everything? you mean mostly asia, the middle east and parts of eastern europe, right? mostly empty land and since when did this have anything to do with the Mongols? I spoke about those shitty Japanese armies. But anyway, Mongols didn't get anywhere near Western Europe and they certainly wouldn't have conquered it.
@leesin666 "...Mongols plundered Polish cities, a European alliance consisting of the Poles, the Moravians, the Hospitallers, Teutonic Knights and the Templars assembled sufficient army to halt their advance. The Mongols destroyed their foes. The Hungarian army and their allies the Croatians and the Templar Knights were beaten at the banks of Sajo River.
@leesin666 ... After their stunning victories over European Knights at Liegnica and Muhi, Mongol armies quickly checked the forces of Bohemia, Serbia, Babenberg Austria and the Holy Roman Empire. When Batu's forces reached the gate of Vienna and north Albania, he received news of Ogedei's death. All Genghisid princes had to attend the kurultai to elect a successor. The western Mongol army withdrew from Central Europe the next year."
@kint909 "The Mongol Empire stretched from the Danube to the Sea of Japan and from northern Siberia to Camboja, covering over 33,000,000 km2 (12,741,000 sq mi),[1] 22% of the Earth's total land". Are you kidding me? All empires had trouble keeping migrant nations at bay. Rome had 1 million people at its peak, one century later, 10 thousand. Torn apart. Give credit where it's due. Those guys knew what they were doing.
@Crimsonwindsamurai Little miss American weeaboo, the Japanese where the only people in the WORLD stupid enough not to understand the advantage of the shield.
@Crimsonwindsamurai the reason why samurai were feared is because they used their "awesome skillz" to cut down farmers and peasants yes i would be afraid of some crazy bastard who murdered the neibouring villiage

Ok there is a reason knights didn't last long and that's because of the shield factor there is a reason Samurai were alot more feared =P
