@alyssaalwayzz it actually hurts less with a needle. i first got mine done with a gun and it never healed so i had to get it re pierced with a needle. turned out that the needle hurt a lot lesss and the healing process was less painful for me too (it depends on your level of pain tolerance). the gun can also shatter your cartilage so id go withh the needle if i were youu :)

i had mine done with a gun about 3 months ago. When she pierced it i thought "is that it?" i was worried for nothing.. it just hurt as much as getting your lobes pierced and that doesn't hurt. But after a few minutes it was throbbing..and after a week i couldn't wait any longer and i put a different earing in. then my ear got really infected and bled alot! and even know it hurts a bit to sleep on. So if anyone wants to get it pierced DON'T TAKE THE EARING OUT after a week!

I got mine done today with a needle and it didnt bleed that much i thought it hurt wen she put the needle through but then after it is fine it feels really hot for about an hour after but it doesnt hurt i think it is worth it because it is only about 10 seconds of it hurting, so if you are thinking about getting it done i say go for it!!!!

honestly, it just feels like any other piercing! your ear will grow hot for a few seconds, and depending on how your body reacts to piercings, it could ache/be tender for 3 days or a month or maybe even longer (if longer i suggest going back to the shop and asking them for suggestions/cleaning substances/"should i go to the doctor?" ....betterrrr keep it clean!...lol)

usually when getting your cartiledge pierced its like getting a regular ear piercing, the only one when they use a needle when piercing the cartilege is when you get the inact or that one pericing that goes across your whole ear ; cartiledge from cartilege.

No, it doesn't have to be a ring.

Mine's a stud and I think it's a lot easier when it's healing because you don't have to worry about it getting caught in your hair as much and stuff like that.

If you get it done at Claires they use a stud.

As Kirst987 said, no you don't have to have a hoop! I've explained why I chose a loop in my LJ blog post (look at the info/description of my video). Frank (the guy who pierced my cartilage) said that with hoops, you are less prone to getting an infection because when you ever touch your earring your fingers won't be touching your ear as much as it would be with a stud. But either way... I've changed mine to a stud after a while, and i actually find it more comfortable when I clean it now :P

Actually, I think that's only when you get pierced with a gun. At a tattoo parlor, it's a hollow needle. Once they pierce it, they slide in the actual earring into the hollow tubing; once the earring is in there for sure, they slide out the needle and then put on the fastener! If I'm wrong, oops, sorry - that's just how they did it for mine though!

Most places pierce there with a gun now, ive had 2 in the same ear donw with both a gun. Cartilage didnt shatter and they are both fine..Needle or gun it doesnt matter you can get a bump on the back of your ear whatever you have it done with.

i got mine done with a needle at a tattoo parlor 4 weeks ago. they had to soak up the blood with like 3 cotton swabs but it took like a minute for it to stop bleeding. it doesn't hurt AT ALL. i'm 14 and i thought it would hurt a lot, but it didn't. so go for it! :D

Your ear WILL be tender for 2 or 3 days (maybe longer, depends on how fast you heal; it varies between individuals!). The pain is mild, it shouldn't prevent you from going about with your daily activities... And when does it stop hurting? Again, that depends on the individual - as long as you take care of your ear and clean it daily (I would recommend 3x a day), your piercing won't get infected and you'll be fine :) Hope that helps! For me, it was a bit sore for like a few days after (like, if you accidentally bumped/brushed against it.. but it's fine now!!! :) no infections, so I recommend going to a tattoo parlor instead of Claires/etc. where they use the gun. I don't know if the "shattered cartilage" is true or not, but... it's better not to take the risk! Don't worry too much about it, you'll be fine :)

Yeah. If you get the piercing fun for a cartilage it can shatter your bone and cause a "cauliflower." which is that bumpy looking thing at the end of the ear.

My piercing is totally fine right now tho. If you're going to do it & you're nervous, take a friend! It really helps =) Sure helped me. The actual process isn't that scary cause you don't see what's happening anyway, unless you're super scared of needles (then I don't know why you'd want to pierce..) I don't know what your pain tolerance is, but it felt like a pinch to me, no biggie. =)
