I used to think Plant was BS'ing interviewers when he said that Bonham was most irreplacable member of the band. Sort of using Bonham's death as an excuse for never "officially" re-uniting with Zep. But after hearing "How The West Was Won", he was absolutely forthright. Bonaham played out of his gorde and was surreal !!!
-Do bluesy bands likes Zeppelin, Floyd, Joplin, Doors, Hendrix, and The Who give you chills? Are you physically attracted to seeking truth in music? @offspringlad312 sure, but i was asking for "since ive been loving you", i uploaded it months ago, and it was blocked, but then youtube unblocked it, well idk :S
@travkatz there are plenty of gems from the Led Zeppelin 2003 DVD set. Any live performance from about 1972 and before kicks ass. Plant was still pretty good in 1973 in my opinion. He didnt' take care of his voice and didn't have professionals training him, unfortunately. But all of their studio stuff is good, somehow. All my opinion of course.
@travkatz theres plenty of concerts from zep's later years 77-80 where Plant is just fine. His voice changed no doubt its just that he had his good nights and bad nights. If he had professional help it might be different, but being the bluesman he is, he just goes with the flow. ;)
Hey all, I just want to thanks for all the views! Check out my channel for more Led Zeppelin/ Hendrix Stuff! I will be putting more videos up shortly!
Alright guys. lets pull together and see if we can discover jimmy's tone. now on this gig he used his #1 les paul and that les paul had a push/pull knob in the tone knob for his neck pickup. he hadnt bought the #2 les paul untill the following year. he was using marshalls. no pedals except for wah and echo. i think his tone is mostly from the guitar and not his amp. am i wrong anyone? if I am please correct me.
I have 10 or so live Led Zep shows, and I can say every song they do live is better than the studio. They're just more alive and intense. And of course Jimmy's improv is incredible.
yeah, most of it is. What I meant was this earlier version is fast, intense and machine like. The SRTS version, to me, was kind of laid back a little.
@TexasMist yeah the 73 one did seem a bit laid back, but if you check out the 79 version at knebworth bonham is slamming the hell out of the drums, and it sounds great
Look when the cameras on right in your face, it changes your playing. :S
Makes you nervous, you can get the wrong kind of nervous or the good type...
Royal Albert Hall, so much nervousness that it turned out to be so good, MSG was good, but could have been better with some songs, like Rock And Roll, but most songs were :O!
if you ever read the book "stairway to heaven" it tells you how robert was mad at john b., jimmy p. for all the drugs. and john b. died from 40 shots of vodka.
plant lost his voice in early 73,' the "High Range," forever. this is why this show captured in summer 72' sounds good. and strangely, page lost it, the 'magic,' at least live, in 73!' (the page bit is speculation, the plant bit historical fact. in november 73' plant said during the start of the physical graffiti sessions, "i'm going to have to find another way to sing.")
You're right. I saw them in '75 and '77 and they sounded NOTHING like this. Maybe if Plant eased up on the cigarettes and booze his voice would've lasted longer. Even Bonham and Page didn't sound as good as this. Drugs definitely took the "magic" away from these guys. Too bad - there could've been so much more GOOD live stuff.
my dad and his brother saw this at the oakland coliseum on august 17,1977 along with 100,000 people. the biggest conert in oakland coliseum history other than ozzfest just five years ago,but it was spread over five days while led zeppelin's concert with 100,000 was one time, one night only
It has a more powerful feeling to it, everthing is punchier. Even though it doesnt have all the perfection and peak of their live set that TSRTS has it just seems a stronger statment of the band.
