if we get high speed, we should get the maglev. sooo much more greener and since the government is advocating for a greener australia it's a better choice... plus speeds of up to 400-500 km/h? much better than bullet trains... it'll also show australia isn't lagging behind in technology as maglevs are relatively new and bullet trains are like decades old...
it'll be like we're buying an old brick of a nokia phone while the rest of the world has a shiny new iphone @@
the last thing true Aussies want is the greens voice there are to types of people who vote for the greens a. the ungrateful and b. the stupid, have a look at there policy on on security point 42 what do you think the military is? and point 22 on their energy and climate change, climate is always changing and why should we change the world when we don't even make up 1% of the worlds population. To have a look at there policies, the majority absolute rubbish go to greens.org.au/policies/
I'm sure you are all aware the head office of 'greenpeace' in Sydney was busted by the AFP a few weeks ago, the AFP took computers!....hacking criminals ripping of honest Australians were operating from that office.
I always new greenpeace were thugs and criminals!
how about they fix the fucking public transport system in sydney before they start wasting money into this high speed rail bullshit. seriously. im sick of trains or buses always being late by 20-30 minutes like its nothing.
@dbryar G'day... Um, well, again...; that's the point. To run a Coal-Fired Power-Station to Sparklerise them overhead wires, takes a heap of Diesel in the Bulldozer ; to push the Coal, into the Furnace...! When y'r facing an Energy Crunch, as we are, chasing a Choo-Choo crossed with a Concord (e)...; is a fairly delerious fantasy. At this Point, it equates to Fiddling while Rome Burns. Why not power it with Phlogiston ; while y're at the Drawing Board ?!
@LazarusCato G'day... Well, you're not wrong, on separate points ; but, they cancel each other..! When the Oil Crunch grounds the Airliners, & stops the Busses & Cars, there won't be any Diesel for the Very Fast Trains, either..! I reckon the treasure'd be better spent making the existing system more resilient. Modify Diesel Loco's for 90% LPG, as an eg. Um, search 'sunfoil' , & the "Short Talk" is the best entrypoint, but "SunFoil Science" may be best value. Enjoy. Ciao !
@AustralianGreens G'day... Well, I'd have to say that I disagree on this issue, Adam. The problem is that there'sn't sufficient numbers of people needing to make the journey for the EXISTING Rail Services to break even, let alone show a profit. Railways are a relic of 19th Century Imperialism, & were put there to ship resources. Any passengers always fit between the Freight. High-Speed = High Energy- Wasted, to achieve High-Risk of High-Impact, Crashing.. Y'see. Truly !
@WarblesOnALot no offense, but less energy would be used compared to air travel & roads, there's is minimum risk of crashing also, look at all the examples of high-speed rail operating overseas..
As for breaking even - in the not too distant future (rising oil prices, congestion, population pressures etc) it will be more profitable, the main reason the current rail isn't profitable is because it is slow. Y'see. Truly !

@WarblesOnALot
These don't use Diesel mate, that is freight trains you are thinking of; big and slow.
In order to get the speeds required for this you need overhead power the whole way
