Barre chords seriously piss me off - when i lay my 1st finger - it always mutes the 3rd string!! :@ i cant depress the whole barre when doing an F or B :( an yeah my hands are kinda small :(

@Daggl3 doing any kind of cords doesnt require big hands. your hand size has nothing to do with cords of any type. get your fingers use to doing something they are not use to. then it'll be 2nd nature, like breathing :)

My biggest problem with barre chords is my thumb, it hurts so much, am I putting it in the wrong position or do you just get used to it? I have it pointing upwards but I heard you're meant to have it pointing towards the head.

I don't know if that's right or not though because when I point it towards the head my fingers move out of place :s

Does your first finger have to be firmly pressed against all the strings or can it just be resting across the strings? I never get a good bar chord sound out of my strings.

@LovesGeorgeHarrison firmly press index finger down. when using the e minor shape move your middle across to help out. once the strength builds up it will be easy. practice practice practice. you'll get it.

i couldnt barre for months, now its easy, practise practise, your hand will changhe shape, stretch, well worth the effort, he's right about ten minutes,any more and your hand hurts alot

when I play an f# minor I have to put my index finger on second fret. Its impossible to play all the strings. because when I play it, the first two strings are open, but the rest are just short plucks! I can't do this T_T

barre chord are effing hard...i find the positioning of your thumb on the back of the neck helps alot too...make sure its parallel with your index finger so u get more pinch force...

@cubbieboy38 try rolling ur index finger slightly too so its like on its slightly on its edge...the outside edge nearest ur thumb? that will give u a bit more force on the strings too..doesnt matter if you do it slow to begin with,you will get it eventually with practice like the man says...it will be second nature...the hardest part is when you have to slide a barre chord up a fret or two lol learning how to play purple haze is good practice..

It's backwards for me...the open is easier because most times I find myself going to A Minor or C/G right after. But I still suck a barring so that could be why.

yes you can, they are very repetitive and get really boring after a while. For a long time i loved marty's lessons but they are the same lesson over and over. it needs to change. lets get some cool intermediate and advanced lessons

I think that works... it's like learning a language, you can never practice your verbs and grammar enough. What I do is take what Marty shows, and turn it around, try to make my own licks. He's not going to hold your hand through every step of playing guitar!!!

i always have lil problems playing barre chords standing, any tips on that maybe? it just seems like i have to go directly under the neck with my hand so i can keep the chord :/

Do you mean standing up? You could try adjusting your guitar strap so it's higher up on your chest - this should give your arm more room to maneuver, y'know? Also mate, just keep at it non-stop, part of that difficulty is simply the muscles in your hand resisting an unfamiliar shape. It'll click eventually then you won't even need to think about it.
