This video is misleading. Cognitive behavior therapy for OCD is not focused on distraction. The opposite is true. CBT asks OCD sufferers to confront the triggers of their obsessions and then not do their rituals (or compulsions) for a period of time afterward. The key is NOT distracting yourself from your discomfort or anxiety during this ritual prevention phase.
ive seen a seen a technique on tv that doctors used that worked really good. lets say you have to make sure the door is locked by counting and looking at it 30 times, well next time you do it stop at 10 or 20 and no matter what dont count it one more time, it may be hard at first but eat time you go from 10 to 20 then lower the counting to 5 to 10 and finally to 1, this should work for anything.
the best thing is to make a decision that i will never do any compulsion whether its in mind or i have to do it physically, practice this, make a decision not goin to do it,come what may, keep this in ur mind that u,ve taken a decision and im not goin to go back on it, develop a technique in ur mind and use it to keep urself strong wid da decision.
yes u should realize that these compulsions are a big hinderence in everything i do than make a decision that i will not do these things for one month or may be for more time and in that time u dont do that and always remember ur decision that in that time frame which i set,i will not do the compulsions.u,ll have fears that anaything wrong is gonna happen but u keep one thing in mind that i will go according to my decision whether its right or wrong and will review the situation when time ends
