It is proven that the story of mary magdalene is a fake/forgery and does not exist in the earliest manuscripts. Such that it has been removed from modern bible translations. A great parable, but has nothing to do with Jesus, didn't even happen........
Why not just cut them out? They obviously don't belong in Mark. I don't get why fundies insist that these verses stay in the Bible. Keeping them just causes doctrinal problems and provides fodder for skeptics, as this video demonstrates.
I never implied that it was by the original author. I am ridiculing these verses specifically because they are so blatantly forged. You can see my explanation of what makes the forgery so obvious in my comments to the user "jacobwesson."
There are, however, people who insist that those verses are still valid, because without them, there is no resurrection account in Mark, the earliest gospel. This video can be enjoyed by non-believers and biblical purists alike.
"you must have had to look everywhere to find those verses"
Nope, they're pretty easy to find. Just flip to the end of the book of Mark, find the part that says, "The most reliable early manuscripts and other ancient witnesses do not have Mark 16:9-20," and start reading!
im just saying that you are interpereting a little weird. "at the right hand of God" means beside god, not the literal meaning on the right side of his body where his right hand is also. also heaven is derived from the old english word "heofon" meaning sky. the passage is simply saying jesus rose into the sky and was with God. nothing more, nothing less
When these things are considered, it's apparent that whoever wrote those last few verses of Mark was simply summarizing the basic resurrection narrative of the other gospels (because the Markian resurrection account was lost, non-existent, or contradictory). The language changes drastically and abruptly in these verses.
Certain phrases in this section of the chapter also seem anachronistic. "Sit at the right hand of God" is used by the author of Luke/Acts, and once by Paul, but never by Mark...
The idea that Mary Magdalene was possessed is found nowhere else in the Bible, and seems to be planted here by the later church to discredit her and the role of women in Christianity in general.
Lastly, the whole thing about snakehandling and poison are just crazy, but perhaps is supposed to refer to the original disciples, so this legendary notion is probably meant to boost the first Christians' credibility.
So in short, everything about this section of Mark suggests it is a forgery, and a haphazard one at that. I'm no biblical scholar, but that's the consensus, and these reasons I have just given you are likely how they came to that conclusion. I know this is way more than you asked about, but it helps to explain why I am so merciless with these verses and why everyone (Christian or not) can laugh at them.
PS: In Hebrew, and possibly in Greek, "heaven and "sky" were the same word. In fact, it's difficult to discern if there was any distinction between the two concepts Judeo-Christian cosmology. It's possible that only in the past few hundred years, with the discovery of the vastness of our universe, did heaven come to be thought of as another dimension, rather than a physical place in the sky.
Every single time there is a new discovery that absolutely hammers the bible...it retreats to some failsafe... only for that to become another accident waiting to happen.
There must be lots...just about ready to be denied possibility right now... do we know which ones?
my argument is a valid one. there are multiple words with different cultural meanings and some words meant the same thing as others. for example the Hebrew word for "feet" and "genitals" is the same word.
also they did not use spacing like we do so even if they wrote it in english they would have to read "whenjesusroseearlyonthefirstdayoftheweek" It's harder to tell when one word ends and another begins. especially if its not in your native language. And who said I was a creationist?
I think it's more that the word "feet" was used as a euphemism for genitals.
It's Greek that doesn't space words, which is what the NT is written in. The guy you're responding to has only been on Youtube for a few days so he probably isn't hip to the many nuances of religious debate on here.
Are you now... 'interpretting' the bible... are you actually using reason to attempt to put 'reason' into this... in doing so... aren't you changing its meaning...
If in the future we find another meaning for some of these words... what will happen to your 'interpretation' then?
Also... can I ask? what exactly was it that the Devil or Satan or Baal Zebûb ...or whatever his name is... well I just don't find anything 'bad' or 'evil' that he done.

People just twist the scripture. They twist it into something they know it was not meant to mean. They don't try to understand what it was menat to mean, they just purposely misinterpret it to make it look ridiculous so they can reafirm their disbelief.
It all makes perfect sense now... and Lassie deserves it, it was obviously a demon, being able to communicate with man and all, Lassie tempted people to evil for it's own gain and diabolical agenda.
If there's drivel like this (and more) in the basis of Christian doctrine then how can you take any of it seriously? If all of it is the word of God, you can't pick and choose and if it isn't all the word of God, who are you to differentiate between what is and isn't? (questions for "believers")
Jesus said, these SIGNS(Miracles)WILL Follow BELIEVERS:In MY NAME They Will DRIVE OUT demons;THEY Will SPEAK(Greek Also means to Sing, Pray, Laugh and Groan) with "New (NEW KIND,Fresh,Unused) Tongues!">(Glossa-Language NOT Naturally Acquired)
Deadly serpents Luke 10:19;and drinking deadly Poison,WILL NOT Hurt Them;
THEY will Place THEIR HANDS On Sick People, and THEY WILL Get"HEALED!"
AND The Lord WORKED with THEM and CONFIRMED HIS WORD By the SIGNS(Miracles)that Accompanied IT!Mark 16;-)
You don't have to believe the video. Find out from biblical scholars (the honest ones). Those verses are non existent in the earliest copies of the gospel of mark. They are interpolated. Mark originally ended with the discovery of an empty tomb.
This video is mere mockery; it does not really address the scientific evidence about Mark 16:9-20.

lol you'd think that if they were gonna add something to the bible it would be something that would clear up all the gaps, and not create MORE.
I loved the video, very informative and very funny.

It's seems pretty low to first assert the text in question was an interpolation and then ridicule it as if it were the original text of the author.

I am being overliteral for comedic effect. However, the language in these additional verses are so poorly worded that they lend themselves to it.
For instance, the author uses the phrase "preached everywhere" instead of "everywhere they went" or "throughout the land."
The disciples are supposed to "preach to all creation," instead of "all humanity."
This says "Jesus appeared in a different form," whereas other gospel writers simply say that people didn't recognize him at first.

im sick of that interperatation crap you creationists kick out at intellegence
words mean what words mean there is no interperatation
many interperatations u use are merely ways u can take very vauge (at best) and turn them in to coherent arguments for your bronze age superstitions

Acts 28.
This video is horrible. You know nothing of biblical history.
AmI2Hvy4ya 3 years ago
Acts 28 says they went to Malta, Rome, and other places along the Mediterranean. That's hardly "everywhere," is it?
SeenAndNotSeen 3 years ago
Read on. Paul is bitten by a snake. Even though I do not accept Mark 16:9-20 Acts 28 can still back up the statments made within it.
AmI2Hvy4ya 3 years ago
Which is what I say in the video- that the early apostles were Supermen, but that no one today seems to be immune from venom, poison, etc.
Why does it matter that another part of the Bible backs up a claim which was added to it much later?
SeenAndNotSeen 3 years ago
My point was to show you that either way, there is nothing wrong.
1. Acts 28 backs it up
2. Mark 16: 9-20 should't even be in the Bible
