Oscar Wilde trained Moz well, England owes him everything but they are swines, total angelic euphemism music...... too big of musical words for most of you to understand, most only like the beats not the meaning, if you lived in the drab of England you would understand, all of this coming from old Manchester
There is an interview, and another song I cannot recall. A short browsing session should get you there. Listen to My life is an endless succession of people saying goodbye.
I totally agree. This comes very close to the brilliance of the original. The sound is very full -- big earthy bass, superb drums and layered guitars and Morrissey's vocal is very strong. Overall very tight performance. Reminds me why The Smiths were the Seminal band of the eighties.

This is without a doubt a soulless version that doesn't feature Marr. Period.
Doesn't even come fucking close to what Marr and Rourke achieved live with a single lead guitar and one bass.
And can someone please shove Boorer's acoustic guitar up his ass, snatch Tobias' guitar, turn up the volume, add some reverb effect and give it to Johnny Marr? ;)
The bass player's ok but i have no idea what Morrissey was thinking when he picked Jesse Tobias, how can you ruin a guitar line more than him?
I wouldn't call it completely soulless. Definately hamstrung. If you ask me, Boorer's acoustic part is the one really interesting thing about this version. Tobias is an idiot, ruining a Johnny Marr riff trying to make it his, whereas the acoustic part at least adds an interesting, subtle touch to the original.
Morrissey's attempt at pop-mush crooning is interesting, in general. But I need to be in the right mood to listen to Morrissey solo. I can listen to The Smiths, any day, any time.
Hmm, now that I listen a second time, I admit, the acoustic guitar does something .. interesting to the song.
But I stay with my other comment :)
The sharpness has been polished off, shame but that's what Morrissey wants to achieve now.. smooth pop sound and crooning you're right. Now that he's older he prolly feels like Sinatra lol. I'll always prefer the witty sharp Smiths sound with the young Morrisey's highly sarcastic tone :-)
Look at Morrisey's facial expressions, especially his eyes, when he sings this song. You can see the pain, and the passion. He's definitely feeling it! : ) Lovely song, beautiful man.
I really don't understand some people slagging him off. yes, he made superb work with the smiths but has done immensely good solo work too (you are the quarry/vauxhall and i/bona drag) there are some gems here. plus if tobias was so bad i doubt he'd get into red hot chili peppers fpr short time n work with morrissey. viva morrissey!
I don't understand why he's kept with the same band. They're not good at all. Mike Joyce and Rourke are easily better musicians than these guys (even when the guitarist can't reproduce marr's guitar playing). There are plenty of great musicians who would kill to play alongside Morrisey. It's beyond belief that he doesn't look for a better band.
Morrisey must be able to tell in these smith covers that something's wrong with them (especially the guitar playing)
Because Morrissey's a stubborn old fool who refuses to acknowledge that his best years are over twenty years behind him. Marr was, in my opinion, what made The Smiths brilliant.
Frankly, I hope we never see a Smiths reformation. It would just be sad now.
Still think he has talent, but yes I think he wasted an awful lot of years on his solo career. In 12 years he could have tried to reform the smiths (Johnny Marr I think was more open to it than morrisey). But I really think he hasn't made the most of it. He hasn't even tried to get a band playing for him to try and even rival the band that he had in the smiths. This band is terrible, and deep down he must know it (and know he is worse on his own than in the smiths). It's a real shame.
An excellent rendition of my favourite Smith's song. I like the way that Morrissey plays with his own lyrics, here replacing the "England is mine" with "Englans's a swine".
I'm French and I'm not glad at all hearing an english singer saying those things... Said as it was said it can not be considered with the needed "nuances". I prefer the Morrissey who said that there are too many inmigrants in England, that Morrissey is much more close to reality than this "swine" one...
Moz always seems to play with the lyrics, especially live, he will twist them up to whatever he is compelled toward at the moment. When he visited Toyota Centre in Houston, he kept mentioning George Bush and our corrupt government. People in the crowd actually booed him, and he told them to shove off. It was awesome. Don't worry, I cheered him on and reassured we loved him. Not that he needed it.
anyone know the HQ version of this video?? saw it years ago.. couldnt find it anymore!

i thought that was funny. he spoke in interviews about feeling different towards england, which is about the time that he came to Los Angeles.

I think Morrissey's best work was with the Smiths, but this is about as good a version of Still Ill as you're going to get without the original team.
