no accually. the windings heated up cause the insulation to come away. when 2 windings touch that are "Far apart" in the circuit, it sees it as a path it can take. since it is less resistance, it makes a small spark. which is waht the pop was. there is no capacitor in the speaker it self.

Lol funny you should say that but the fact is the receiver used to blow that speaker was a Yamaha RX-V890 the receiver (amplifier) still works and i use it with my computer as sound for speakers.

i got a 250watt sub(active)(and it has an extra pioneer amplifier that gives the sub extra POWER) + 2x 150watt speakers + 2x 120watt speakers(that are in a Denon amplifier) and that i hoocked up to my macbook=) now that is 790watt speakers POWER in a 4x4m room=P

Actually what looked like what happened was the Voice Coils overheated. the magnet inside actually caused the electrical signal to go haywire and cause extreme deformation to the Spider and voice coil. resulting in smoke and a nice "poof". basically your sub fried itself by running at such low frequency.

funny enough i wasn't expecting that to happen, i actully damaged it before i shot the video but no explosives where used, honesly the shear heat from the friction i guess caused the glue thats holding everything togther egnighted, again i wasn't expecting that to happen lol so it turned out nice
