I decided to ignore the stupid arguments in the comments below and just sit here and enjoy this masterpiece. :-) This is by far one of the best songs of the 90's. This arrangement is absolutely spot on. Beautiful song. Thanks to whoever posted this. You don't hear songs this good come along very often.
@sweetlikeDAM i'm a musical person to (all state 4 years) marched 3 years with the cavaliers drum and bugle corps and in my opinion i think the orchestra did a pretty solid job
@sweetlikeADAM See this is what I was on about. I played live for over 20 years, over 1400 performances from 10 people to 30 000 and it is my hands on experience that the biggest critics were indeed the ones standing around watching instead of doing it themselves. I have also played with some completely unprepared 'musos'. However the people paying us to play did not care at all.
I'd like to also apologize for my crass comments- it was 3am, and you copped a serve I normally would keep to myself.
@sweetlikeADAM Point is, if you are in a position to offer criticism perhaps another option is maybe not to complain but appreciate how superior you are to that.
I would love to check out your performance as I expect it would be fantastic to see.
Again, I am a little embarrassed by my 3 am rant at you...and I guess I will see if I can find out if Ben was as pissed at their performance as you suggest.I have experience in performance and managing of a music store so I guess I am musically inclined
@sweetlikeADAM I don't care if you invented music with eve, you are wrong. Music performance major eh, screw those papers up and throw em in the bin, your textbooks have blinded you to what music is about. Peoples enjoyment of it, and the people(not musical majors)who pay for it love it. At the ratio so far of 88 to your 1 vote. Motion carried you are an idiot by weight of numbers.
@stratman21 First of all, I never said the music was bad. I love this song, dearly, hence I took the initiative to look it up and listen to it. I was complaining about the orchestra. Anyone who is musically inclined would understand my argument. I'm sure someone of such caliber, such as Ben Folds, was complaining about the orchestras lack of preparation for this performance as well. Clearly, you are ignorant. You are the idiot.
i think a lot of teens nowadays should at least just listen to this song because for a lot of them its all too real and i think it really shows true emotion and not a political standpoint and thats what ben was aiming for
@knoxIII Thats it. he said it was ever meant to be a song to make a political statement, it was a song he made because that was his feelings about what happened to him personally, and still doesn't like talking about the meaning for the song as he feels it's a song that should speak for itself.
This brought tears to my eyes!! Beautiful music n lyrics

I love artists who have actual talent and use it to arrange complicated pieces but who also have all the attitude and punch of a rock band.

apart from a bass, the orchestra is superfluous.

I might go see this guy when he comes to the Manchester Apollo in 2011. Pretty impressive.

I love this song. Ohio University's Leading Tones did an amazing a Capella version with Ben a couple years back. Definitely worth a listen.

@nmangla No, I'm not. I'm pretty harsh on musical judgement being as I'm a Music Performance major at a university.

Although I like most of the orchestra arrangement, I do not like the tremolo; I would prefer a legato note.

(extended from other) I liked the mallets' blues solo right before the chorus at 2:19.

I agree with DMBdcfc, the drum brushes do fit in well with the piece as a whole. Awesome job Ben and WASO.

One of the best songs of ben folds, beautiful orchestral arrangements... and one HELL of a video. :)
Thanks. 5 stars.

The normal version of this song makes me tear up anyway but the orchestral version had me full-on bawling... no shame.
Oh well. Ben Folds always does that to me.
