Just to throw my two cents in, as someone who has studied Cinema in College... This film, from several points of view is very good when you break down the mechanics. It was competing in a very strong market, when Star Trek films have traditionally never been strong. The premise is good, the acting tight, the script flowing and evenly paced. A little bit too much Data perhaps. And um, bitches please (jokingly)... Tom Hardy is frakkin' hot!

@douro20 I dont know myself, but as an amateur musician, there is alot to be said for blending Synth and Orchestra. Look up Hans Zimmer, (pirates of the Caribbean) He uses the combination allot to great effect. Also Jerry Goldsmiths son Joel uses it to HUGE effect on the sadly now cancelled Stargate Universe show.

Nemesis was the best TNG film. It actually played out like a film, and not some bad feature length episode.

The one concession I'll give is this movie had the most character development - albeit at a far too great price for my taste.

After the shit that was Insurrection, not to mention this film didn't have that a high budget for marketing (the budget was less than half of the new Star Trek film alone), it didn't reach the audience it could've.

Also, I'm guessing critics were basing their reviews of Nemesis on the previous three films. If you review a film against three bloated boring episodes, thinking Nemesis is going to be one of them, it won't be good. As a film, it is very good.

Also, coupled with the poor advertising, it was released against Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets; which was an emerging superpower in the movie industry, and against the Lord of the Rings, which had a massive cult following from the book. That's why it failed $ wise. As to why it failed critically for the most part, the TNG cast isn't that well suited to a film, its hard to give them things to do that suit well. Also, it wasn't made for TNG fans alone :-)

You know - "Inner Light", "Best of Both Worlds", "Wounded" would make far better movie than e.g. Generations or Insurrection. For me, from all TNG movies, only First Contact is reasonably good and Nemesis barely accepable...

Yeah i am def in that camp, i loved this film. All the characters had their time to shine. Only wished they had ended Data/Geordi better than just a nod.
