Did the Monterey visitors make a statement against capital greed? Were they just having fun, getting high, listening to rockers or just resting? What were they really doing?
Great song! The Animals really defined the 60's along with The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, etc. Eric Burdon is amazing! I've never heard a voice as brilliant as his. It's so hypnotic its like puts you under his spell. and to top it off he was a good looking guy ;) He looks like that sexy bad boy type. But Eric seems humble from interviews. I think he said he was "ugly" He's certainly not and he's got the best voice! this songs just plain amazing :3
shit, i wish i was taking some of that WACKY BACKY, back in 67, i can't believe the ANIMALS could sound so fucking good and PSYEDELIC, this is a fantastic track
There were lots of great groups back in the day but nobody had as much soul as Eric I saw him about 7 years ago and He was just as good as ever. The doors were one of my favorites but Jim was a real bad drunk and fucked up plenty, most of us were out there back then but at least we had great ideals even if the worrld around us did not, and yes I went to viet nam in i972 spent my 19th birtday in the south china sea 5 decks down.Peace and Love
Accually it was because Morrison lived on the edge more than anyone else is why he was always in the spotlight, plus nobody was at the level of the Doors or has been since. We loved the Animals also. Sky Pilot great song
I was 12 @ the time & my parents wouldn't let me go to the concert . I lived about 35 miles from Monterey & alot of friends went to it . I missed out, another piece of History.
My very first concert was in the summer of 1966, with Eric Burdon & The Animals, and Herman's Hermits. Burdon tore it up! I still get goosebumps when I hear him
3:43 Danny McCulloch does that jump step. These "New Animals" were on equal turf with Eric, makes the old "House" lineup quite lame. Four Pros Rockin'. Enjoy!

Your statement here is profound and "on the money".
When the Beatles amd Motown hit, some people were crying out for missing Elvis and Paul Anka music.
When Zeppelin and Black Sabbath kicked off the 70's, a lot of folks were saying that music just wasn't the same as it was with The Beach Boys, Monkees and
Neil Diamond.
Fact is, they ALL played a role in the soundtracks of our ever changing lives.
Thanks TangerineSequel for this memorable post. Eric Burdon is a legend.
I always think it´s weird that everyone always cries about the good old times. Even back in the 60´s you would have heard many people crying over how there isn´t music exactly like it was in the 50s or before anymore. Yes you will never get a band that is just like a band from the past again (that´s impossible), and most music today is crap, but if you search for it, there will be some good music in every year/decade.
@mobyboy I believe that the whole 60's is going happen again but this time in Cyberspace...so dude hold on! I think the next 60's happening is going to better and it's going to blow all our minds. The 60's was only part one....
Like the song said "memoires don't die but with time become hazy". (who sang it?) The memories we all have of sixies will be with us until the "end". Sure would like to see more of "Eric like" musicians.
I loved this song in the 60's & still do!! He was a babe then and probably still is! I hope I get to see him perform with The Animals before I die!!!~~<3
I justed wanted to say that Eric isn't a blueser, he also has no bluesy voice, he just listens to blues. He made blues records, but mostly he explored other music genres like rock, heavy metal, funk and also hip hop and reggae.
And the music in the 60s wasn't 60s style, he was ahead and nobody could recall this kind music again....

How long after the concert did this come out? I remember it was pretty quick. Erick was a true genius. Wish there were more of him around today. I doubt any of us will be listening to todays "RAP" thirty years from now!
The good, die young. The great die much younger. But, Jim Morrison was always out on the very edge by himself. Morrison & The Doors were at least 10 years ahead of any group in the music business, and Morrison paid for it in the end. Morrison, Hendrix, & Janice, were murdered in the end, Nixon hated them. Eric Burdon was as talented as Morrison, or more so, even. Eric Burdon just didn't get the spot light like, Jim did.
@imgone54321 According to a Hendrix biography I read some years back, Eric was the first person Monika Dannemann(sic) called on the morning of 9/18/1970 to let him know that Jimi was so stoned that he wouldn't wake up. Eric instructed her to call an ambulance and to immediately flush whatever illegal crap that was present in the flat down the toilet.
Eric was a brilliant in that he was able to compose this song within days of the Monterey festiville! And he "captured" the whole concert in one song!
Yeah Eric was better than Jim Morrison. And he had more charisma .. just watch as he smiles and plays for the camera and looks and poses perfectly for this well-shot video. Alllrrriightttt!

Not many people realized but this was a revolutionary song when it came out not quite like Hendrix's Purple Haze but had an innovative sound.

Sure, I'll agree to that. But he did both. My usage of a monopoly is my way of spearheading the point that no one else had that particular attitude inherently but Burdon. Others posed it, but he owned it.
the guy that plays bass 4 the animals, went & seen hendrixs and got,Jimi 2 go 2 england, where he got 2 white guys to make up the band, the rest is history !......
Eric Burdon always looked like such a badass. He had a baby face with the voice of an old bluesman. To me he was way cooler than Jim Morrison, just my opinion.
One of my all-time faves. Love that bassline. This tune is king tone, baby! It moves sooooo right!

Sure, I'll agree to that. But he did both. My usage of a monopoly is my way of spearheading the point that no one else had that particular attitude inherently but Burdon. Others posed it, but he owned it.

@csmpeoil every geordie born where he was when he was had that attitude and look ............... i still do lol.

Eric Burden has one of the great blues voices of all time. When House of the Rising Sun came out in the mid sixties, he blew a lot of brains out.

I love the complexity and layers. The fusion sound is amazing and just makes sence in this global village of ours.
He mentions Ravi Shankar in the lyrics and there is a sitar-like sound (is that a special pedal for that sound?)

Ahhhhhhhh genius.
I love The Doors and The Animals equally, so there.
Listen, Jim Morrison is Jim Morrison, and Eric Burdon is Eric Burdon. They are incomparable, and both incredibly awesome.

One of Burdon's absolute best........ A song that, given all the layers, was one of a kind, off the Richter Scale, still. Such great talent.
Simply brilliant. Really great music. No more in the past 15 years or so...., that junk - it is - is so dead, talentless.

Jim Morisson is way over rated. At least Burdon is still alive to groove on.

Eric Burdon always looked like such a badass. He had a baby face with the voice of an old bluesman. To me he was way cooler than Jim Morrison, just my opinion.
