  • One of my all-time faves. Love that bassline. This tune is king tone, baby! It moves sooooo right!

  • mexico was so badass back in its prime , he just had to make a song ,man he loved monterey.

  • He looks like he's about 14 y/o... What a voice!

  • Did the Monterey visitors make a statement against capital greed? Were they just having fun, getting high, listening to rockers or just resting? What were they really doing?

  • I live in Colorado and I cant get any of the crummy radio stations here to play this great music . I am glad i found it here .

  • Awesome, my fave Animals song

  • Plus i love the little smile Eric gives at 0:39 :)

  • Great song! The Animals really defined the 60's along with The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, etc. Eric Burdon is amazing! I've never heard a voice as brilliant as his. It's so hypnotic its like puts you under his spell. and to top it off he was a good looking guy ;) He looks like that sexy bad boy type. But Eric seems humble from interviews. I think he said he was "ugly" He's certainly not and he's got the best voice! this songs just plain amazing :3

  • OMG I cant believe i LIVED TO REMEMBER IT! Awesome days!

  • I actually met Eric Burdon. Real nice guy!

  • A real great song!!

  • Wish we could clone all the great rockers and do it again.....Damn, these dudes could jam !

  • this is the ulitmate mid 60's song !!

  • I know the 5 dislikes just hit the wrong button by mistake...

  • It was great then..it's great now! I was there.

  • Get me a Time Machine!

  • shit, i wish i was taking some of that WACKY BACKY, back in 67, i can't believe the ANIMALS could sound so fucking good and PSYEDELIC, this is a fantastic track

  • Dukeoftruth, that was one Einsteinian take on how it all happened. Now I understand.

  • Thanks for the information and thanks especially for this upload.

  • I was 13 and far away but at least i did bang a lady who was there 18 years later ha ha who I later found out was an escaped prisoner.

  • wish I had a nickle for every time I played or danced to this one

  • Was Chandler still playing bass with them at this point? Highly underrated bass bass player.

  • @TheMichguff Chandler left The Animals after their first split in late-1966 so that he could manage what became the Jimi Hendrix Experience.

  • There were lots of great groups back in the day but nobody had as much soul as Eric I saw him about 7 years ago and He was just as good as ever. The doors were one of my favorites but Jim was a real bad drunk and fucked up plenty, most of us were out there back then but at least we had great ideals even if the worrld around us did not, and yes I went to viet nam in i972 spent my 19th birtday in the south china sea 5 decks down.Peace and Love

  • Accually it was because Morrison lived on the edge more than anyone else is why he was always in the spotlight, plus nobody was at the level of the Doors or has been since. We loved the Animals also. Sky Pilot great song

  • This is real music!

  • love this band ,,, no words can do them justice

  • 831 beeiitch!

  • I wish I had the chance to go to this concert , but the song is soooo great !!His voice is so awesome!!!!!!!!

  • if you want to find the truth in life... don't pass music by!

  • I know mate. I think my line sounds better.

  • "Even the Cops grew beards"

  • @The69ersFC

"even the cops grooved with us"

  • 4 persons with ear problems

  • I was 12 @ the time & my parents wouldn't let me go to the concert . I lived about 35 miles from Monterey & alot of friends went to it . I missed out, another piece of History.

  • Truth teller. Embarrasing. Honest, simple 'journalism' Thank you Eric Burdon. You da man.

  • I LOVE THIS VID ERIC BURDON IS SO BEAUTIFUL AND TALENTED

THANKS FOR POSTING THIS IM FROM LA PAZ BOLIVIA SOUTH AMERICA AND I REALLY LOVE THE ANIMALS AND OF COURSE ERIC BURDON HES SO SEXXXYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

    DOWN IN MONTERREY!!!!!

  • Eric Burdon is such a BAMF.

  • Génial ce Burdon !!! c'est toujours un plaisir de réecouter "Monterey"

  • My very first concert was in the summer of 1966, with Eric Burdon & The Animals, and Herman's Hermits. Burdon tore it up! I still get goosebumps when I hear him

    sing.

  • 3:43 Danny McCulloch does that jump step. These "New Animals" were on equal turf with Eric, makes the old "House" lineup quite lame. Four Pros Rockin'. Enjoy!

  • @movingon4ever

I agree , the basslines from Danny are beautiful !! It is sad , that only few people recognize this !!!!!!!!!!!!!

.... the end of this song with the brass , it makes me wanna jump around .

    bye Eckart from Germany

  • My favorite Animals tune, man they are jamming, yes, music is the truth

  • Great sound for the time, They would always take it just that little bit more, All Stars.

  • What a package!

  • Thanks so much!!!

  • One of the best songs ever........, so many levels at work here. Exceptional.

  • LOOPED BASS IS AWSOME! And the lyrics + eric + 10000 electric guitars. MAN!

  • said it before...........he is like controlled dynamite.......

  • @ BMWizardofOz

Your statement here is profound and "on the money".

When the Beatles amd Motown hit, some people were crying out for missing Elvis and Paul Anka music.

When Zeppelin and Black Sabbath kicked off the 70's, a lot of folks were saying that music just wasn't the same as it was with The Beach Boys, Monkees and

    Neil Diamond.

Fact is, they ALL played a role in the soundtracks of our ever changing lives.

Thanks TangerineSequel for this memorable post. Eric Burdon is a legend.

  • I always think it´s weird that everyone always cries about the good old times. Even back in the 60´s you would have heard many people crying over how there isn´t music exactly like it was in the 50s or before anymore. Yes you will never get a band that is just like a band from the past again (that´s impossible), and most music today is crap, but if you search for it, there will be some good music in every year/decade.

  • So Cool Eric

  • Youtube has not failed me yet...wow never thought i would get to see this done live...great psych at its best, the whole LP is great...thax man...

  • Real simple. Anyone know of anyone that could give Eric a "bring it on"! Let's hear it!

I think we'll all have a long wait!

  • Since the Mid 60's I will always dig Eric and the Animals, have seen him twice. One of my favorite rock voices.

  • @ugmold back in the 60;sand 70;s awsome band and miss all the old bands.. not this crap they play now.

  • The new generation don't let this music pass you by!!!!!!

  • @tonkehar don't worry;;;;; this music is awesome!!! i really love

  • @SuperLadypamela cool!

  • i put these guys up there with traffic.thier sounds are similar...

  • I would give up all my property, just to live and be there... instead I was born much later

  • @mobyboy I believe that the whole 60's is going happen again but this time in Cyberspace...so dude hold on! I think the next 60's happening is going to better and it's going to blow all our minds. The 60's was only part one....

  • @tonkehar sounds a relief :)) hope there's true in it. cheers mate

  • Put this up agiast any "current" RAP song. Game over!

  • Like the song said "memoires don't die but with time become hazy". (who sang it?) The memories we all have of sixies will be with us until the "end". Sure would like to see more of "Eric like" musicians.

  • beautiful!

  • I loved this song in the 60's & still do!! He was a babe then and probably still is! I hope I get to see him perform with The Animals before I die!!!~~<3

  • Does anybody know the names of his band in this song. They need to be given thier rightful credit for this song.

  • I justed wanted to say that Eric isn't a blueser, he also has no bluesy voice, he just listens to blues. He made blues records, but mostly he explored other music genres like rock, heavy metal, funk and also hip hop and reggae.

And the music in the 60s wasn't 60s style, he was ahead and nobody could recall this kind music again....

  • one of the best singers that ever lived.

¡Quieeeeeeeeeeero!

  • @ferbus1681 ERIC BURDON EL MAESTRO DEL ROCK EL SI SABE FABRICAR EL BUEN ROCK SALUDOS ALA GENTE ROCKERA K SIGA LA PSICODELIA

  • My God, Eric look's FANTASTIC in this video!

  • A white man with black blood

  • @GreatBonFire

I'd say a great musciain with "gifted" blood! Wish there were more of him!

  • How long after the concert did this come out? I remember it was pretty quick. Erick was a true genius. Wish there were more of him around today. I doubt any of us will be listening to todays "RAP" thirty years from now!

  • You rock Eric. Total 60s flow.

  • The good, die young. The great die much younger. But, Jim Morrison was always out on the very edge by himself. Morrison & The Doors were at least 10 years ahead of any group in the music business, and Morrison paid for it in the end. Morrison, Hendrix, & Janice, were murdered in the end, Nixon hated them. Eric Burdon was as talented as Morrison, or more so, even. Eric Burdon just didn't get the spot light like, Jim did.

  • @imgone54321 According to a Hendrix biography I read some years back, Eric was the first person Monika Dannemann(sic) called on the morning of 9/18/1970 to let him know that Jimi was so stoned that he wouldn't wake up. Eric instructed her to call an ambulance and to immediately flush whatever illegal crap that was present in the flat down the toilet.

  • @imgone5432 This is true, but at least Dio died an an elderly age.

  • I wish I was down in monterey

  • The byrds and the Airplane did fly-along with 'bout 10,000 others-thanks to the orange sunshine!

  • Those "New Animals" were so versatile, and professional. As Vic Briggs is playing

that fluid lead solo, Danny McCulloch's Throbbing Bass plays solo too, amazing

    music from 1967. Enjoy.

  • He's still alive you idiots!

  • Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow, if only for a moment..Brilliant..Tanxx»

  • The best White Black voice Ever..! !

  • I always liked the Monterey Pop Festival better than Woodstock.

  • Those were the days....

  • Eric was a brilliant in that he was able to compose this song within days of the Monterey festiville! And he "captured" the whole concert in one song!

    Amazing!

  • Yeah Eric was better than Jim Morrison. And he had more charisma .. just watch as he smiles and plays for the camera and looks and poses perfectly for this well-shot video. Alllrrriightttt!

even the cops grooved with us do you believe me? sure whatever you say.

Not many people realized but this was a revolutionary song when it came out not quite like Hendrix's Purple Haze but had an innovative sound.

  • @Randi791

I believe we all think of CS&N when we say Woodstock because of the movie ...then the song. As far as I know Joanie Mitchel is still doing gigs. How many? Don't know.

  • If I could go back to the 60s I think the person I'd want to be is Eric Burdon.

  • cool song

  • That's my favorite song of that guy!

  • overlookedthen forgotten now , but one of the great bands

  • Sorry,Randi917 but Woodstock is a song that cs&n borrowed from Joanie Mitchel, with permision of course.

  • @gregtheiceman

Thanks, I didn't know that. I still like the version that CS&N did at woodstock.

Saw them three years ago here in Atlanta. They put on a great show. Is Joanie Mitchel still performing"?

    Steve

  • this is good--thank you for sharing..

  • its music you find played in mc donalds......the bass line is good though

  • @kevj247 I've never heard this on a muzak ever, even most oldies stations ignore this song.

  • I love Eric Burdon, but this song is just a bit "cheesy".

  • A rare song about a "Classic" show. One of only two I know about. Woodstock by CS&N is the only other one. Anybody out there have any other "nominations"!!!

  • The 60's....If only for a day!!!!! Saw them perform in Salt lake City at the Salt Palace in the! 60's

  • Man, Eric's voice so... right. I love it!

  • I have been missing all this awesome Eric Burdon and The Animals music for so many years. Damn!

  • Pure iconic. Absolutely phenominal.

  • Could Eric Burdon seriously go wrong.. I don't think so. :]

  • 10,000 electric geetars was grooving read loud.

  • I think maybe Ima dreamin, I was 12 & had friends that went to the concert, folks wouldn't let me go. Down in Monterey, about 30 miles south of where I lived.

  • This song should have been in the movie Monterey Pop (112-26-68) instead of that piece of crap sung by Scott McKenzie.

  • What are you talking about? It was in the movie of the festival!!

  • So wonderful, so many layers going on, phenominal rhythm, simply off the charts, couldn't touch this today with a trillion dollar bill.

  • Love me some Eric Burdon!!

  • Love the way the bass closes out at 3:05 to 3:10.

  • Great song. Wonderfully nostalgic. Wish I was there ! Eric Burdon is a true musical survivor!

  • This song really takes me back in time! Can't stop watching it!!

  • Awesome awesome music unequaled to this day, tellin like it is!!!

  • that little smile he does just kills me

  • the best song of the animals

  • brilliant track, brilliant lineup, brilliant vid!

  • Classic, vintage and untouchable!!!

  • Just watched the dvd documentary about The Animals and it's not the bass player kicking up his heels. It's a guitar player.

  • I love the way the bass player kicks up his foot near the end of the song.

  • This song, a great car and a long highway

  • @danielpinasco ...and your best girl with the wind blowing thru her hair.

  • Eric Burdon is amazing...

  • God. You just don't get singers with voices like this anymore. What a shame. (You don't get men that good looking anymore, either.)

  • I completely agree :D

  • @xBeatCity If you see one who comes close... could you give me a call?

Ah well, going to see + hear Eric in about two weeks,

very much looking forward to this concert. Indeed. :-)

  • @lapislazuli7 I actually saw this guy putting away carts at a grocery store in Gardnerville, Nevada who looked exactly like him. xD

You're so lucky. It's my dream to see him perform. I hope you have a good time. :]

  • @xBeatCity AMEN TO THAT!!!!!

  • Great ~ love this!

  • Comment removed

  • @fusejockey why was my musical comment "removed" ???

  • @fusejockey

look back about four months ago - it was a clean musical comment about His majesty, "Prince Jones" moved among the crowd... Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones ??? somebody 86'd my post

  • the thing I loved about eric burden was his stage prescence it was like he knew something you didn't but needed to and he'll tell you about it. smooth

  • TELL EM ERIC

  • I did no know that there were immages of this song.I wish i could understand what he sings...but at least i understand something.Hugh Masakeela's music black as night.Thank you for posting

  • You had to be there

  • Eric Burdon really monopolized the whole "I don't give a fuck" attitude.

  • I just found about them and from a quick wiki research he never became a pop star. That kinda confirms that he really didn't give a fuck.

This guy is amazing, I'd go to his concert tomorrow if I knew. Something in his eyes. And the music is pretty good too!

  • @csmpeoil epitomized, not monopolized. And yes, he did.

  • Sure, I'll agree to that. But he did both. My usage of a monopoly is my way of spearheading the point that no one else had that particular attitude inherently but Burdon. Others posed it, but he owned it.

  • @csmpeoil every geordie born where he was when he was had that attitude and look ............... i still do lol.

  • the guy that plays bass 4 the animals, went & seen hendrixs and got,Jimi 2 go 2 england, where he got 2 white guys to make up the band, the rest is history !......

  • so psychedelic...love this.

  • Eric Burden has one of the great blues voices of all time. When House of the Rising Sun came out in the mid sixties, he blew a lot of brains out.

  • DOWN IN MONTERREY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ya gotta love those bass lines!..That big booming 50 watt amp... HA.....

  • Powerful!

  • I love the complexity and layers. The fusion sound is amazing and just makes sence in this global village of ours.

He mentions Ravi Shankar in the lyrics and there is a sitar-like sound (is that a special pedal for that sound?)

  • Ahhhhhhhh genius.

I love The Doors and The Animals equally, so there.

Listen, Jim Morrison is Jim Morrison, and Eric Burdon is Eric Burdon. They are incomparable, and both incredibly awesome.

  • One of Burdon's absolute best........ A song that, given all the layers, was one of a kind, off the Richter Scale, still. Such great talent.

Simply brilliant. Really great music. No more in the past 15 years or so...., that junk - it is - is so dead, talentless.

  • Jim Morisson is way over rated. At least Burdon is still alive to groove on.

  • One of the greatest hard rock videos I've ever seen!!!!

  • This is music!!!

  • best song

  • Eric Burdon always looked like such a badass. He had a baby face with the voice of an old bluesman. To me he was way cooler than Jim Morrison, just my opinion.
