I love your spirals! I have much to learn from those. Thanks for commenting back at someone. I will try and do the heel thing, because i have to bend my knee during spirals and that is not supposed to happen. They are beautiful, they remind of this one skater Tonia Kwiatkowski, spirals. You should look her up, your spirals are very similar.
@strawberrykiwi20a Thanks for the lovely and encouraging words! Hope my spiral tips can help. Going forwards, there is always the fear of tripping on the toe picks, that's why putting pressure on your heel makes a tumble less likely! Also, it helps to practice this move off ice, but wearing your boots. Skates are so heavy, and if you work on holding each spiral about 20 seconds, the back muscles will strengthen. Ballet classes are a great aid, too. Happy skating! :)
I find it helps to think of skating on the heel of the blade when going into a spiral. Seems to make the edge longer and stronger, and with less chance of taking a forwards tumble!
Very good tip! Thanks very much. Your lunge is also remarkable, I counted a full 6 or 7 seconds. What is incredible is that you go into it very gracefully, seemingly without a big push.
I wish I had so nice arm movements! That is something I have to improve. And the song is lovely!!!!! Why it is not allowed to use vocal music for technical programs in Europe?! :-(
Thanks for the comments. I had a look at your videos. Your arms look lovely, and your sit spin and ina bauer are absolutely stunning, so you have no worries! Here in Australia we are NOT allowed to use vocals for technical programs either, but this particular competition makes an exception.
Your skating is so effortless and beautiful! Thanks also for commenting on my double loop! Also, don't worry about the layback spin. I think as one becomes an adult skater, the back just won't bend that way.
You're very kind, and thank you for the compliments! I agree about the back getting stiffer as we get older, but I hear so many stories about laybacks eventually ruining the spine and/or causing pain. I'd rather be pain free and focus on learning other types of spins...
Thanks, bouldersk8r! Actually, the only flexibility I really have is in the hamstrings. My back is as stiff as a board, so a layback spin will only ever be a dream *sigh*. Oh well...we make do with what we have :)
I just stumbled across your video looking for attitude spins - what a lovely program! You are so graceful; like other people said your ballet training really shows. I liked your attitude spin!
Thanks so much for the kind comments! Although I have no trouble getting into the attitude position, it's incredibly hard to centre and get any speed on, but I think they add a bit of variety to a program. I'm trying to get more than 3 "revs" though. When I do, I'll post a video ;)
I think the ballet training helps with turn-out, as ALL ballet moves must be performed with (ideally) 180 degrees turnout in the hips...youch! I still need to work on relaxing my shoulders though, but that's for another program...!
Thanks for the lovely compliment, schaatsmetliefde! Yes, I studied ballet about 25 years ago. Strange how muscle memory still remembers after such a long time!

Your spirals are phenomenal! You can actually go a full circle (and more if you have to) with just a tiny push at the beginning! Amazing!

I love your spiral positions and, like everyone else has mentioned, the arm positions are lovely. I hope you keep it up!

Thanks so much for that! Now I'm injury free, I intend to keep skating until I'm in a wheelchair :)

Very nice job, you can tell that you dance, I would love to be as flexible as you are.

Wow - you have a beautiful spread eagle & ina bauer! My hips won't let me do those;) Everything you do with your arms looks so graceful. :)

Lovely hands! But I think I remember you saying in an email that you used to take ballet, didn't you?
