Many years ago a doctor who plays banjo wrote to the Banjo Newletter. He explained that if forcing the ring finger to stay down makes it hard to move the middle finger then you shouldn't do it--it could cause tendonitis. I have had a number of students over the years who absolutely could NOT function with even one finger down. One was a classical guitar player, one a bass player, and a few others who simply could not.
AWESOME as usual, Bill. What I like is the fact that you brace with the pinkie, So many scruggs nazis insist on anchoring the ring finger even though it's physiologically wrong. I tell my students that some of the real greats of the five string -- YOU, (and the old P. Allen among them) do not anchor the ring finger, and so it's up to them . . the important thing is a solid base of operations to work from, a relaxed hand, and minimal extraneous movement.
This has always been a favorite tune here in the southern california area. Everybody loves jamming on it, ergo everybody is always looking for nifty licks to incorporate into it. I believe I first heard the "American Bandstand" theme utilized by a mandolin play I knew in the '70s named Dana Mohr.
great video, if you need any help getting your video/channel exposed i use a site called mytubeviews . com It has helped 5 of my videos get ranked on the first pages.
Just kidding of course! Great tone from it is it amplified? I have a friend looking for a travel banjo, Is this one on the market? As usual your superb job of picking and making it look so easy!
Goes to show you a master can even make a tin can sound good.

Howdy,
Thanks banjobilly32. The Tranjo was invented by Sam Farris, and it is now manufactured by Gold Tone.
I'm sure you could install a pick-up, but I recorded with a Shure Beta 87 microphone.

Hi banjobilly32,
The peghead is actually there. My cinematographer, John, photoshopped it out of each pane. hehe

Great job, who cut off the peghead on that almost a banjo?
