Great tutorial, as with all of your videos, but what I don't understand is how to go from in between my ring finger / middle finger slot back to my thumb.
Ok think I got it. The last flick round between the thumb and the finger is more important than you think people! My wrist just doesn't seem flexible enough for this yet. Thanks for the vid!
I've honestly tried to do this f*cking trick for several weeks, PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!! I haft to learn this trick .... I dont get it? Help me out please // A really confused boy from Finland....
im so confussed. can u maybe do it a bit slower and how do you do the trick wer e you spin it between your index and middle finger? plz post another vid for this cuz i will go crazy if i dont learn this soon. thnx :)
I mean drakken..come one. I don't think this video is nessersary ( i no I suck at spelling) but she is cute but...don't be too retarded when liking a girl. thats a tip not an insult man. But she slowed it down alooooooooooooooot. so u should get it now. And thanx for the video I'm a drummer playing for 5 yrs but I was self tought and I never heard of these tricks. thanx LBird44
hey, are you have orkut? I'm from brazil and plays drums too. i'm a teacher and i demonstraded to my students some stick tricks. these are very cool, but hard.
Nicely done. Clearly and patiently explained and demonstrated.
Thanks.
Anyone in need of further explanation has...errr..."challenging" spatial awareness problems. (No disrepect to these people, but from 0:59 onwards, it doesn't really need stop-motion photography to be perceptible to the human eye.)
Okay i can't do the first part of it 100% corect i got no problem in spinning between 3 fingers but the thum gives me problem so i would be really glad if you'd post a video explaining the first part a bit better and also when you've done it first time and want to continue to second time 3'th time 4'th time and so on :) especaly filmed from you own point of viwe would be cool :)
ARGH! can do it once but then i screw it up and i also need a little practise at the first part with the rotation betewn you tum and.. ehm the next finger XD but anyway you've been very help fully so thx a lot and hope you'll be posting some more videos if you learn some new tricks :)
TheOrangeguy13....if you play drums at all, then you should know that that when it comes to sticks there is no right or wrong. it depends on what the drummer likes. how the stick feels in your hand
I still can't quite get it. What would be really helpfull is to do the same video but from the rear angle. You gave us the spectator view but to really learn it I need the performer view. Just a suggestion to make this as clear as possible.
LBird, in the 16 years that I played, I have never known of this trick. It goes to show that no matter how long you played for, you can never stop learning. Thanks for uploading your vids.
holy shit thats one big stick lmao its either a 5B or bigger but my 5Bs do not look that big lmao i use joey jordison signinuters sticks now anyways... awesum covers but uhm this didnt really help but i just think im retarted :) anyways keep up the awesum job
Those Arent Set Sticks. They Are Marching Sticks And If Im Not Mistaken They Are Innovative Percussion. They're Bigger Cuz Set Sticks Arent Heavy Enough To Play Through The Head On A Marching Drum. Theres Really No Classification In Size Other Than Large Or X-Large Or If You Use Pro-Marks Or Ralph Hardimons Vs Ralphy Jrs
thats such a cool trick i really envy how well you can do that (its giving me a lot of grief)! wish there were more girl drummers out there. just out of curiosity what kinda music do you play?
Well in Scottish, so you sound like you have an accent to me! everyone has an accent, how can you not? i guess for some people its hard to recognise other people with the same accent as them.
BTW i could hear your MSN messenger noises and i thought there was something up with my laptop as im not signed in LOL
If you watch it closely, she says to sort of jam the stick in between your forefinger and thumb. I guess that's for explanation purposes, because if you watch her perform it faster, she holds it much looser, in between the tip of her thumb and forefinger, not the complete base of the thumb. If it hangs loosely it spins better, and you wont have to use your wrist as much. I hope this helps. Thanks for the upload.
I have to rave about this trick as well, it's pretty frickin' sweet. A word of advise to everyone else though, when I first tried to do it, I kept using my wrists to make the, "Figure 8." Don't use your wrists so much, let the stick hang loosely from the thumbs so the momentum makes it have a circular spin rather than your whole wrist. Once you get that movement, just add the finger part with the spin part simultaneously and it will work. Bad at first, but keep trying. Taken me two hours.
Your a very good drumer =] Theese vids tought me a lot xP im just getting into druming so hopefuly ill do good. And no accent, im from canada too and i think the person who said you did wasnt from canada cause apperently people from canada have one but iv never noticed it before o.o?
Don't think you have an accent, but I guess that depends on where people are from. I'm from Oregon and you sound "normal" to me. :-) I love your vids.
You rock. Today on my birthday I suddenly developed an interest in doing tricks while I play and you've been very helpful. & I think we all have heavy to very light accents that deviate from the idea of the "general" English language. For me though, depending on what I tell people first, I have a different accent according to that info, haha. Anyways, from down here in New York City, thanks for the bday gift, :-)
If you want to become a good drumset drummer, stop wasting energy on stick tricks (they're not what makes a drummer great) and focus on your groove, independence and set technique. Or pick drum corps and stick with that. You can't do both your you'll be half-assed at both. Besides you'd go further with drum set...the world needs more women players that can play WELL!
...I've been playing for about 6 years now and shes more popular than me even with my playing out...Seems like she has the right idea. (I play prog rock/metal original, and rock cover band atm)
Thanks for the lessons too! I've been messing around with stick spins lightly, but for some reason havent incorped much wrist movement...that sells it. Also check out John Blackwell's spins, you might learn something new :).
Awesome video! I see that you were using Tom Aungst sticks. The drum line at my high school uses those, but I prefer Jim Casella. They are a little bit lighter but still as durable, and I think they bounce better.
How did you get that good in 7 years? you sleep with sticks under the pillow? your awesome, I'm going to keep trying, if you can do it I can do it damit. Thank you so much for the awesome explenation.... YOU ROCK!!
Wow...Everyone else is like; 'Ye do this' *enter normal speed of stick trick sequence* But I can't complain 'cause I do the same thing when tryin' to show people.
Yeah that makes sense. Shortly after I asked you the question i sort of figured it out but i found a different way but your way is much smoother and i think easier.

1 - Figure 8 w/ thumb

you have to grab the stick with your middle finger and your thumb and do the figure 8 motion.
that is how to do the transition back to the beginning of the trick to repeat it.
