@boomer5901 thats because Centurylink uses DSL, through your phone line, and DSL is brutally unreliable compared to cable internet like mediacom.. i feel sorry for those that live in a area where there is not an option for cable internet.. i dont know where you live but if there is another cable internet/ cable tv provider i would go to their website and compare before going back to mediacom..DSL is a joke.. if mediacom is the "only" cable provider then i would do the same thing and go back.
As an Embarq user, I'll be one of the first to tell you that this video is not an exaggeration. I go thru the exact same nonsense, and it's exactly the way it's shown in this vid. The same applies to the poster's video description. Embarq is a horrible ISP; with sub-standard systems, and it's tech support is nothing short of inept.
@trilogypart3 well now its centurylink and my 10 meg service is running slow. Im better off using my 3 g phone. That's no joke. Paying so much and watching netflix is flat out depressing! !! We now have a cable internet provider and already called them to hook me up. Im finished with dsl! I went through 6 years of this.
I have Embarq right now, and it's very reliable for me. It barely goes down, and the speed is still 5 Mbps. For me, it's good, but I'm getting cable soon, so Embarq you can eat my dust! I'm taking a trip with RoadRunner!
I use Embarq and it isn't that good either. I hooked my Xbox 360 up directly to the new box, and I had 3 out of 4 bars, sometimes 2 or 1 out of 4 bars. Also watching YouTube videos takes forever. Loading the page takes only like 3 seconds, but for every 3 seconds of the video, it takes about 8 seconds to load. I live next door the the station too. My cousin works at Charter and has Charter internet, and the station is 50 miles away for Charter cable, but comes in great.
yeah, i finally decided to go all the way and get the 10mbps plan and it works fast now, not always, but the majority better than what was on this video which was the 5mbp. At the time i shot this vid, embarq (now century link) said they where having problems in my area for some reason. I just get upset cuz its not cheap, so i deserve a fast connection at least 75% of the time.
I think its downtown, about a 5-6 minute drive from here (my house).. the "server" "tower" is about 2 hours away. I realized that DSL is crap compared to Cable. I had no idea until I asked which is better on yahoo one day. Like i stated on some comments, a representative said if i would of lived two blocks up I would have better service.. crazy.
thats true, according to Embarq ( get this) i live just two blocks shy of having better service.. which its ok now, but i think thats so silly how just a few feet away makes a huge difference!
Hmm... Weird, I guess you're too far away from the Embarq station. I got the 5 Mbps plan, and it is exactly at where it's suppose to be at. As you know, the further you are, the more data gets lost, so it's slower.

It all depends on where you live. Where I live, I get the best out of their service. :)

Have a technition come check your line. Most dsl speed issues is wireing in the home, you may need a splitter installed.
