What a concert. Almost wish I'd been old enough to go to gigs in '75. :) Roger Glover must be a great bloke - inviting his replacement in Purple to come along and shine shows he's pretty mature.
DIO is the most powerful voice and the perfect frontman for every kind of music..and thats just DIO can do it. Lawton havs such an amazing, insane!!! voice...hughes in my opinion its good but not amazing...and coverdale its one of those who sing with excellence
And, yes, Dio has a wonderful voice and the version with Lawton is just as good (Gillan doesn't reach Dio's standards on Sitting in a Dream). I think the three albums Lawton did with Heep was a disappointment. Too bad Hensley was going in the wrong direction with his keyboards at the time. (More today's pop-synth sound than Hammond B3 with Moog). Otherwise they would have done some magic together!
totally, lawton could be an historic singer, but he didnt got the chances... anyway you just need to hear him some seconds to realize how good he is. I love his bluesy style
I totally agree with you. Actually, the best songs with him in Uriah Heep were not the rockers, but the more bluesy and souly songs, like Wise Man, and ballads such as Come Back to Me. The more rocky tunes sound thin from time to time, He totally rocked with Lucifer's Friend, but it's in the softer songs his voice becomes magical.
John Lawton, Glenn Hughes, David Coverdale, Jhon Gustafson, Mo Foster, Roger Glover, Ian Gillan, Dio on the same project...simply the best musicians of the 70 for a masterpiece of an album!
Try pop during the 70s..hes definitely in there. Have you thought about jazz or fusion to extend what youre listening to now? Its not everyones cup of tea, but itll open you up to what other artists have/are doing, especially if youre a musician yourself.
Whatever...the traffic awaits you!! Its nice to be able to appreciate different artists and different styles of music..oh wait..you wouldnt know what thats like!!
Blues/Rock n Roll/Country & Western/Heavy Rock..and Pop ranging frm 60's to today..unfortunately no David Essex..I bought 1 single by him but I no longer have it.
You just watched a video with some of rock's greatest names giving a great performance..and that's all you can think of...you sad little twat...may I suggest you grow up before you comment again?
I Am now awaiting your reply calling me some nice names.
Grow a sense of humour before one attacks you..dickhead! You dont think I love these musicians? Some of those guys have been huge influences in the music I choose to listen to. Get over yourself..you sad little twat! If thats all youve got to comment about...fuck off and let the rest of us enjoy the vids.
It sure is different over in england this is like some alice in rock &roll acid trip wonderland video [ great early footage] of some of englands finest rockers.
The guy on bass is not Jeff Lynne, that is Mo Foster (Jeff Beck, Michael Schenker, session). The other musicians to be seen in this clip are Les Binks on drums (later in Judas Priest), Ray Fenwick (from Spencer Davis, Ian Gillan Band) - guitar, Jon Lord - keyboard, Eddie Jobson (then in Roxy Music) - violin, Mark Nauseef (Elf, Ian Gillan Band) is the guy with the tambourine
yep that's Eddie Jobson on violin...this is some of my favorite stuff on YouTube...I like the footage where Coverdale sings "behind the smile" and is (endearingly) ill at ease...this is fun stuff
I've got the whole concert with two versions of this song. There's too much cartoons and other stuff instead of filming the show... I don't know anything about the line-up.
@kesseli main band is Mo Foster on bass, Ray Fenwick on guitar and Les Binks on drums with on Lord, Tony Ashton, David Coverdale, Glenn Hughes, Ian Gillan, John Gustafson, Eddie Jobson, John Lawton, Eddie Hardin,Roger Glover,Twiggy,Helen Chapelle, Liza Strike, Barry St.John,Rogers then wife Judi Kuhl,Chris Karan and Mark Nauseef on percussion. Mickey Lee Soule , Earl Jordan, Al Matthews, Neil Lancaster and believe it or not Vincent Price
@scotsmaninusa Yep, scotsman, you're right ( too lazy to watch carefully!) Some say it's Mo Foster, some say its Gustafson - both on the album and both bassists...in fact, when you factor in Hughes as well, the whole of BB was probably the bass players finest hour! :-)
@kevinandrewmoore yeah Gustafson has straight hair so thats Mo on bass here.I just posted the whole line up for the night,or what I think it was anyway.
All greats, all legends, but Ronnie's version is by far better :) The little man can handle alone.

Kinda confusing camera work, isn't it? I kept hoping to catch a better look at coverdale and hughes during the whole video..

John Lawton is probably the only man in the universe that could do this song justice, apart from RJD. Good choice, Mr. Glover!

Would that be Mick Kaminsky (ELO) on violin?
I've got the original single of this but never realised that it was ever performed live.
Great to hear John Lawton - one of the most underrated singers ever and he sounds a lot like Ronnie James Dio (who song on the record).
Thanks for posting this!
