I remember watching this when it first aired, and trying to keep from turning it off, it was so bad! That tumble down the staircase was so funny though, that I probably would've watched just for laughs. I was very relieved to see that the first scene was a soap within a soap!! Maybe the writers were thinking that if Generations started with awful writing, then the rest of the episode would look even better to the audience!
@bldali You are so right! I remember when this soap came out too. My wife and I just watched it for the laughs. It was so funny. All the acting was so bad!...and the "storylines" LMAO. A child must've been writing. Excellent show though for its entertainment value...especially when you've got a buzz.
Do you realize that any Soap that debuted in the 1980's never made it. Generations, Capitol, Rituals, Loving/The City, Santa Barbara. Only The Bold & The Beautiful was successful.
Those soaps (except Rituals, which I've never heard of) lasted at least 5 years. Generations was canceled because NBC stuck it against Y&R, which was already pretty ahead in the African-American game, with Mammie & Dru. And it was still the # 1 soap for about 10 years at that point.
Generations rocked!! Even with this episode, in their infancy, Generations was much more interesting than most of the drivel we get on todays soaps!!! I agree, the cheeseball opening was wierd, but at least they were trying to be different! Did anyone notice the secretary was Days of Our Lives Shannon Tweed and the guy was Seneca from Ryan's Hope?
Used to love this show. Thank you for bringing back memories.
Watching the first and last eps, seemed like a strange casting decision to replace the classy, beautiful Pat Crowley with Dorothy Lymon who still looks like AMC's Opal with a Springer make-over.
I've always wondered how many people tuned OUT after watching that awful parody during the first five minutes, thinking it was the real thing. I know I almost did... that was painful! Not a very smart way to launch a new series, IMHO.
i didn't realize until now that the first 5 minutes was a parody. i am disappointed about that because i was beginning to get intrigued by why the lady lost her memories
I loved Generations so much it had the best catfight I had ever seen on any soap between Maya(Vivica A Fox) and Doreen. The acting was really top class and the storylines were alaways based on reality and never over the top. Gone too soon.
Thanks for posting this "gem". I used to love this soap when it was on. Love to laugh at it, I should've said.

since 1980, NBC has had a big problem with placing their new soaps...

Actually, Y&R didn't become #1 until 1988. Give or take a few months.

Well, it was certainly top 3 by for many years. Regardless, I would have liked to have seen this show take SFT's old slot, afer DAYS, and before AW.
