  • At this point in their career they were damn near a force of nature. Back then standing in line to get into Van Halen was an unforgettable experience. A tip of the helmet to all the babes who were there looking their best for the Big Show. Fair Warning is the best named album around!

  • @LOMAZ5150 Keep on rocking dude. Rock & Roll will never die because it's raw. I graduated high school in 1985. Nice to here the younger generation still has a taste of the good stuff...!!!!!!

  • Soon as here Eddie playing this I get chills up my vertebral central nervous system.

  • im 14 and most of my friends listen too so much bullshit like rap and hip hop at least in rock you can understand the singing

  • Thanks. Fantastic song from VH's best album, Fair Warning. God, I played the hell out of that record.

  • The cream of the Van Halen crop boyz and girlzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!

  • I remember taping this video from some local video show that used to come on every week day at 4 o'colck way back when (along with all their other early videos/interviews) I still have it; the picture is grainy, the sound is in mono but its one of my favourite prized possessions. These guys were the band of my childhood!

  • Van Halen at the absolute top of their game.

And Van Halen and Fair Warning are their two best albums by far.

    It's not even close.

  • How amazing is this? This is legendary!

  • Positively lethal.

  • Love everything about it. Look at the audience. I'm old enough to remember no cell phones or internet. No people standing around looking down at their cell phones. Life was simpler and - better. A band like Van Halen came to town and it was a huge event that people waited all year for. This current generation can't possibly understand what they're missing. It's sad.

  • @Twotontessie Nobody goes to a concert and enjoys the show anymore. They all hold up cell phones and record the show and hurry home to post it here on Youtube...hoping it goes "viral" and they get rich and famous themselves for posting the clip they filmed. "It's all about me". Welcome to the reality tv generation where being a drunk idiot is ok so long as your video "goes viral".

  • @Gordfozzfoster i hear ya brother. people are too caught up in taking pix and video to enjoy the show. i don't get it. back in the day you had to sneak a camera in. i may have taken some pix but i was also partying may ass off. i miss the good old days of rock concerts. van halen was the best. saw almost every tour that came through cleveland from '78 to '83/'84

  • @Twotontessie You are so right, there was no internet giving away all the tour dates. When your local rock station made the announcement that VH was coming to town, it was pure excitement. You had to camp out at the record store for tickets if you wanted good seats; everybody partying all night in the parking lots, blasting the music, just a great time. I'm glad I was there and not a kid having to listen to owl city or crap like that...

  • i like this version better than the studio this has more energy

  • grazie bellissimo brano............tutto rock roll da ballare

  • David Lee Roth... Backstage and everywhere else dave a cool rock star, when VH cooked, they were an unstoppable hard rock metal force. The original hard hittin' V.H. lineup was something straight out of Hollywood central casting. Featuring a guitar hero of epic proportions, an animal behind the fire drum kit, a whiskey chuggin' bassist who added incredible backing vocals, and a master of ceremonies front man, who commanded from the stage with full-on bravado.

  • awesome performance, and if you notice ed's volume knob is black and that's kinda rare to see one of the only times he changed the knob and it's not white!

  • If Van Halen had only released Fair Warning and then disbanded, their place in rock history would still be etched in stone. By far, the greatest songs they ever recorded. This was a moody album, yes, but I think its the truest album. Five stars all the way. Thanks for the post. I haven't seen this clip since the show "Night Flight" in the 80s.

  • FK YEAH! VH rulez

  • im sorry but as much as i LOVE fair warning, women and children first is probably my fav album...just so bluesy, ballsy, party-y, and everything in between...and eddies tone was RIDICULOUS at the time!! :)

  • AHHHH the good ol days!!!!! Now its all bullshit!!!

  • Every Van Halen fan I know knows FAIR WARNING is the absolute balls out best VH album!! Fuck sales, it is, and yes, it is DARK!! If that needs explaining, then the other 5 albums aren't already IN YER BLOOD!!

  • @Jmurray5150 --- Fair Warning is usually cited as the best VH album of all time by true Halen fans.......it's fucking RAW and ANGRY.......Eddie and Dave were on fire for this album........FEEL THE FUCKING RAGE!

  • @Hunkola Been a fan since 81 or 82 and I'm one of the many who agree on that point. I'm no different than most. 1) FW, 2) VH I, 3) VH II. Not surprisingly, for the mainstream, this was their most misunderstood album at the time. I don't blame them for pulling out the synth by 84, they did what they had to do, but they still balanced that w/ H4T and Panama.

  • @nonplayerzealot4 --- Yeah I think VH was feeling a lot of pressure from Warner Bros. after FW didnt sell that well.......and then Diver Down was popular based mostly on pop covers and so you can see why 1984 turned out like it did.......although its still a rockin' album but lacked the rawness and edginess of the first 4 records.......thank God VH still had those initial years to indulge in their purest pursuit of rock awesomeness

  • Ha ha ha....I was lucky enough to graduate high school in 1985 and still lived to tell about it! So, you can take your Bieber, Cyrus, your Jonas Disney Bros and your fake ass American Idol and shove it!! Yes, I think Fair Warning is VH's best albumn because it's so raw and the song selection just kicks ass.

  • VH RULES

  • I never understood why people consider this a dark album.......Raw yes...My whole perception was anything but dark . .. ..."Ive been tried and convicted its winner take all." ...."Chained , nothing stays the same - unchained and ya hit the ground running " The whole album is dedicated to the " I dont give a fuck i'm going to do it my way mentality " .that in it of itself is liberating and inspiring. Musically Fair Warning is the most creative and uninhibited album for VH.

  • @originalVHfan i feel the same way, although "Sunday Afternoon in the Park" and "One Foot Out the Door" are a bit odd . . . more Sunday afternoon; the word i assosiate with its sound is "monsterous". i dont exactly know how to explain it, but i do agree with you . . . the first time someone said it was dark, i was like "Wait, the album with Unchained on it? That's dark?"

  • Damn iPod touch! I clicked comment video and it said I flagged it..fuck!

    Fair warning=best van halen album

  • I miss the band that played with real musicianship. This was one of them.

  • WHERE HAVE ALL OUR ROCK STARS GONE ???? Nowadays we have Justin Bieber, Miley, Billie joe Armstrong and countless others. The Strokes , The killers , are you Fucking Kidding ME. Tommy Lee. Save me

  • In my opinion, back then, we had SUPERHEROS! Today, we have....uh, anyone care to answer?

  • 1 of my all-time fav's...has so much melody and a driving that takes ya where ya gotta be!

  • wolgang doesnt hold a candle to michael anthony

  • VH in Oakland '81 full concert = ULTIMATE WET DREAM

  • @Hunkola agreed

  • F- the mainstream... if rock does that WE will have more competition for good concert tickets!

  • Must have been nice to bang those slim American girls back then...no wonder all the American bands love Europe and Asia better...

  • Another example of why Michael Anthony was the extra strength glue that kept it all together. He may not have beena maincog in the songwriting process but holy cripes, could he add the spice!

  • Yeah,I know I miss MA too,but at least it's still a family band.

  • I get the feeling this old stuff won't be released until Eddie dies and Wolfie wants to cash in. I realize Ed probably thinks that Dave sang bad at these shows, but we all know what Dave was about live back then, so get over it and release the tapes!!

  • This full show was released way back in '81by Don Kirshner's rock concerts. I googled it and there are a few peeps selling copies of this show, check ebay.

  • I remember the old man yelling at me to turn this down when I was a kid.

  • I bought the big "VH" sign on e-bay last week for $15...shipping included, from DLR's home. I guees that;s the final straw in there being a reunion tour...

  • One of Ed's best ever solos!

  • 0:21 amazing shot.

  • The Oakland vids never get old. I would mostly watch MTV in the early 80s in order to watch these vids, waiting for them to come on. This and 'Hang Em High' are my two favorite Eddie solos. Yes, I agree that "Fair Warning" is VH's greatest album. If you were to ask most hardcore VH fans which are their two favorite albums, they will likely say "Fair Warning" and "Van Halen I." Absolutely wicked lick at 3:18.

  • Van Halen at it's best. Too bad they broke up in 1985. Such wasted years 1986- 2006. Hey Eddie, open the damned vaults and release some pre 1986 stuff. How about a new album with DLR????

  • Fairwarning is brilliant the darkest and most heavy album on earth. epic. thank god roth is back where he belongs.

  • This concert was bad ass I should know I was there that night it was recorded. But then again they always recorded all their concerts. But yeah they should release this to DVD and Blu Ray with full dolby 5.1 or 7.1 Surround Sound

  • This was VH at the height. I saw them twice in '81 at The Spectrum in Phila. I thought the roof was going to blow off. I know this was filmed in Oakland, but the stage and clothing were identical one of the night that I saw them. Why isn't this film available for DVD. A HD and Surround Sound treatment would be heaven.

  • I've been hearing rumors for years that Eddie has this entire '81 Oakland concert on film but he's being his usual dickhead self and not releasing it.

I agree with you, if it was put out on Blu-ray it would sell millions -- the mighty Halen in their prime -- greatest rock show ever !!!

  • If you were at this van halen concert you are buch lucky SONS OF BITCHS ! I wish I was there cuz this show is badazz ! so metal , damn the kick and full turn of david lee roth that scream 'in ,the medley eddie's guitar playin and solo , alex's huge drum kit just poundin' away and mikes backup vocals bass playin just right up there , this song kickass live ! ===VH===

  • Fair Warning, Mean streat and Hear about it later, two of the greatest Van Halen Songs, on one of the great albums of recent times.

  • FAIR WARNING is my fav VH album.

  • My Favorite band in the world .

  • in my opinion VH2,fair warning,5150, and F.U.C.K were the best VH albums ever too bad fair warning only went 2x platinum with 4 hits and VH2 did better with only 1 hit (dance the night away)

  • Go listen to the "Fair Warning" album a few times........it will change your life.......FOREVER.

  • You got that right buddy !

  • Glad to know there are so many others that love Fair Warning as much as I do. As a kid growing up this was always (still is) my favorite VH album. The hardest and darkest of the first 6. I love all of 1-1984 but this one had no holes in it, beginning to end had my attention. And as stated here you have to be true VH fan to appreciate this because Fair Warning is often overlooked/forgotten among "regular" people.

  • @Gossage54 -- I always know whether I'm talking to a real VH fan or a Van Hagar geek when I ask them if they like Fair Warning.......a Van Hagar fan will get a glazed look in his eyes and stammer.......but a real VH fan will gimme a high five and we're sharing a cold beer......LOL.....that album just kicks ass......its so dark and angry but I love it.......it stands the test of time and its pure magic.......will never be duplicated

  • @Hunkola True. Most old school VH fans cite VH I and Fair Warning as their two favorite albums, me included. Push Comes To Shove has one of Ed's finest solos to boot. The fact that it was about their least selling album of the 80s speaks volumes about where musical tastes were back then.

  • @nonplayerzealot4 yeah . . . it just so happens that thier most rockin' songs weren't the most desirable kind of music back then. It almost makes me want to think Sammy wanted nothing more than to make big hit songs for money. I mean you can never really say someone that was that succesful was "BAD", but i don't dig it. He ended up making the band sacrifice pure, "in your face" badass rock, for money.

  • Man!!! this just gives me goosebumps everytime I listen to that solo!!!! WHY HE IS THE KING!!!!

  • To the rockers/metalheads were born post-80's, TAKE NOTE!

  • THE SCREAM AT 4;06 SUMS IT ALL UP!!

  • @r8ersfan Yes, I, TOO, miss that scream! DLR did that SO MANY times while in Van Halen, I'm surprised he, still, HAS a voice!

  • the best rock ever made

  • 0:21 - 0:26 best eddie shot ever!

  • I've been tried and convicted

    It's winner take all

I want a run for my money - that's all

I dont wanna.......hear about it later!

  • BTW, see those people in the audience? Their kids are the ones posting videos to YouTube playing Van Halen and covering complicated shit like Rush and Yes. This is the first generation of parents whose kids think their parents' music is cool (for obvious reasons). I predict that rock will return in the next five years!

  • lets hope so!!! Amen Brother!!! Cheers

  • Thats me!

  • excellant prediction

  • Rock N Roll better return to the mainstream!!!

It's sooooo much better than this pop-techno-trance bullshit, this generation has got goin on..

    I'm 16 btw ;)

    :L

  • @Rattlehead930 i know im 20 and i hope there are others like us that will bring back actual music and rid the world of this shit once and for all we can start by publically executing britney spears

  • @Rattlehead930 Call the radio stations over and over and scream it !!!!

  • @Rattlehead930 fuck the mainstream i hate ppl listening to the same thing i do

  • @Rattlehead930 Im 50 and I agree with you 100% ... you guys your age really dont know what you missed ... hope it comes back ... btw check out reckless love from finland ... very good 80's type music ;)

  • @spiffdandy ya thank god now we have youtube to relive countless van halen live footage for us youngins

  • @Rattlehead930 support it by attending their concerts and it will come back ....

  • Oh, there's Waldo!

  • And here is my guess as to what happened to all those hotties in the front rows:

    Fat, stretch marked and bitter.

Ah if only we could stop time. ; )

  • Tell me honey will your lovin' pay my bills.

  • The ONLY TRUE VAN AHLEN...And Eddie's FRANKENSTIEN guitar!!!!

Love the RED, BLACK, and WHITE!!!!

    VH1 4 EVER

  • I fucking love this song. The band were right at the top of their game here. Doubt if there's has been a better live rock band since. Great musicians, songwriters and performers. Fair Warning is probably the best album VH released. It depresses the fuck out of me the steaming piles of shit we have to listen to these days. Wish I had been there...

  • I was there... and saw them on this tour. I've seen a lot of shows, and this was the best live band ever on their best tour.

    Amazing show.

  • @DrMabuse06 You saw VH on THIS tour?! Holy sh*t! I'll bet the show was LOUD (of course, it's VAN HALEN, right?!)! What section/seat were you in? Who opened for VH or or did VH open for somebody? I can IMAGINE how PRETTY the females were THAT night, let alone during the early '80s, in general!

  • Don't worry im a classical pianoist like eddie was and Ive been playing guitar for about a year and can allready play most of Van Halens stuff, can play full songs without messing up... i will save music today and put some good music on the shelves.... I HOPE

  • Do you have any music of your own?

  • As in origanals, Not at the moment I have 2 years to go until I graduate high school and on Piano I'm 4 years ahead of were I'm spos to be. My band is going to be posting on youtube in a couple of days I hope. We got On Fire, Atomic Punk, Panama, You Really Got Me, Dance The Night Away, and ACDC, Priest, ect. when the shits posted ill tell you but it may take like a week or 2 lol sorry

  • Today's Xanex-laced garbage can't touch this. This is fun, well crafted and allows the boys to play to their strengths. A great result ensues.

  • Fair Warning album and the song is Meanstreet, not Meanstreets.

  • 4:07.......the shit

  • fuck yeah

  • there is no full 1981 concert with this version. There was only 3 songs from this show recorded....unchained, so this is love and hear bout it later. I know that really sucks, it was them at the highest..

  • Van Halen at the pinnacle of their powers. I would have loved to have been there. They made it a party and had fantastic musicianship to match. A lot of these bands today should study these vids and see how it's done.

  • @mikeleevickers You tell 'em or I agree! If you watch A LOT of concerts from the '80s and/or '70s, you'll know or see WHY I DON'T go to concerts ANYMORE. Back then, it was the era of the "spectacle." Today, UNFORTUNATELY, it's the era of Hannah Montana, Miley Cyrus, and iPod :( .

  • Another performance to say they are THE BEST!!!!

  • VH kickin ass!

  • If this concert footage doesn't scream "American Bad Asses"......then you can suck my smelly cock and lick my dirty asshole, bud.......cuz you dont know shit.

  • The Pasadena pistols at their best!

  • This is great quality. Dave's cock and balls are right in your face.

  • Release 1981 Oakland/CA!

It's still a crime to keep it under lock and key while the CVH fans have nothing from the best band on Earth as an official release!

And many thanks for sharing the HQ video!

  • I TOTALLY agree Simonthehead!!

Why won't Halen release this digitally remastered on a DVD? I'd buy that shit in a heartbeat man!! I hear they have a full concert of this '81 footage?

    PRIME HALEN right here!!

  • SWEET vid man from Van Halen's best album...Fair Warning!!

  • You got that right!

  • Wow!!! that is great quality, thanks for posting.
