I saw Tosca at ROH/London on 30 May 2008 with him as Cavaradossi. He was really great! Not only did he sing first class, but he also played his role perfectly. His performance was worth my travelling from Brussels to London just for this evening.
Yes, he was amazing as Caveradossi, but I have seen him in many more roles, Lohengrin was spectacular, so was Don Carlo and Werther. He has the most unusual voice, in the way that his timbre is dark, but easily reaches the high C and more and he IS the part he plays. The most brilliant actor. I don't know why some people can possibely say his voice is not big. The contrary, he can easily fill a big opera house, even if he sings pianissimo when the part requires it.
@cordu3 Thanks for sharing your informed opinion! I've seen the Carmen DVD and the Werther telecast, and have been VERY impressed (and the Lohengrin excerpts on "Sehnsucht" overwhelmed me!) but this week's Tosca at the Met will be my first live experience... I'm very excited; thanks for your take on him in several very different roles.

this was brilliant because it took me by surprise and was the first time I heard his voice; the part suited him so much.

Oh, I'd like to see more from that one. Do you have any clips from the actual opera? Please? :-)
