  • Okay, what. The same guy has both top comments and the comment is the same thing, with the same amount of thumbs.

  • and of course 6.5 million american dollars isn't as much as 6.5 million euros

  • I agree, if you are going to skirt the line between legal and illegal, than you can expect some controversy

  • Swedes = REAL Pirates (may not be real pirates)

  • quality bro

  • Piratebay is banned in my country. I look elsewhere for torrents, good enough for me.

  • FACT: Piracy according to social studies shows that people who enjoy the illegal content they download often go on to buy the official product later on... this actually increases sales rather than loses sales. You see when the movie industry says they lose 18 billion dollars a year to piracy that number is made up because x amount of people wouldn't buy the movie anyway. they would watch it for free on TV, watch at a friends house, borrow from relative etc. so how does it make a difference??

  • @tigerwhite007 piracy increases sales huh? explain the low amount of album sales the average band has? you rarely see 10mil record sales anymore. Piracy need to be gone

  • @n1GibsonGuitarist >Implying that the creators of the content are even affected by that

  • @TheTigerStrike well it dont give the bands the credit they deserve

  • @n1GibsonGuitarist It sort of does. It increases the range of people who will hear their music and as such, increase ticket sales of their concert

  • @TheTigerStrike Do you think The Beatles would be where they're at today if there was digital Pirating in the 60s? Record sales does matter alot

  • @n1GibsonGuitarist That really has nothing to do with the argument that I brought up. And, they'd probably be bigger because millions of people still do buy music, like myself. Do you know what the sales figures were when the Beatles came on to iTunes despite people already owning CDs and pirated copies of their music, in better quality to boot?

  • @TheTigerStrike but for new bands they can struggle cause they arent selling much. And the record companies prolly look at these bands thinkin that they arent goin anywhere cause they have nothing to show for it. And of course the beatles sell well on itunes....theyre the best selling band in history and most successfull... and they didnt get that way because more than half the people pirated there music

  • @n1GibsonGuitarist My point is, that people who would buy music despite pirating still exist in vast quantities

  • are they out of jail ?

  • @simpsfutur Really? Are those guys rich?

  • Sweden, don't surrender your sovereignty!! You need not to bow down to obsolete industry sectors.

  • let's be real. pirate bay is the essence of the 21st century. information exchange.

  • I can download Linux off the internet legally

  • @irulethe70s Only because it's open-source, no one owns it, therefore it's legal to download.

  • Comment removed

  • They never went to jail, because hosting downloadable content to copyrighted material in Sweden is not against the law.

  • @dannywithnoodles Where can I read about this? o_O

I can't find anywhere stating whether they served time or not.

  • Comment removed

  • If anybody has ever actually paid attention to the FBI Law that is at the begining of EVERY movie/tv show/anything else of the sort, you will notice that it is illegal to DISTRIBUTE the content of that (most likely) disk. It says NOTHING about downloading. Yes, the downloader is taking without paying, but they are not the ones distributing (unless you seed). This is why the founders of the site, most likely, got in trouble, but the site itself was not shut down!

  • Viva La Tórrents!

  • shhh shut up jon I like free software! fuck dude if the software makers were too make software more affordable then id start buying!

  • internet piracy is a freakin joke for this reason (my own personal reason) there's no prove that say i owned a movie or piece of music or video game in the past.....especially older content i can tell you right now that I've owned at least a 12 copies of Final Fantasy 7 that i bought and legally payed for.....can i prove that i owned them well no but can they prove that i downloaded it instead of ripping it from my disk to keep a working copy.....there's no difference

  • Dont download games from Pirate bay, buy the games instead, one game for only like, half your life savings.

    -Haters of life.

  • Founder 1: Were going to Jail, oh shit oh shit we are in so much trouble.

Founder 2: We have a hearing perhaps we can get out of this.

Founder 1: I'm gonna try to bribe the judge!

Founder 2: I'm gonna give him my body!

    Founder 1: gross

Founder 3: I'm gonna drug him!

Founders 1 2 and 3: What about you!

Founder 4: I'm gonna call in sick that day.

  • @Arachi123

    rofls

  • thepiratebay got over 10 million supporters for free digital sharing even a few musicians supported a couple of them pretty popular. and what they said and I quote "true music is meant to be heard not profited from"

  • @ohmahgawdfilms "true music is meant to be heard not profited from" - I'm guessing they sell their music as well.

  • @moviesunrated well of course but they said they don't make music for the money they just do it so their music is enjoyed. the money is just a side effect lol

  • this is stupid

  • I had also always thought that Sweden was pretty lax as a whole, but recently I saw an article that discussed the fact that Dead or Alive: Dimensions (3DS) was recently banned in Sweden as "child pornography." Check it out, it was really interesting. Still, it just goes to show you that even a place like Sweden cracks down some times. I'm just not sure if that's a good thing for them actively addressing crime, or bad because these specific cases are a bit ridiculous...

  • i love it :D JK

  • ...and google doesnt?

  • Pirate Bay is my fav website.

  • They will never see that money. It really does not matter what fine they asked 3.5 or 6 or 50 millions. The companies, the government pissed away probably millions already to put it through court and they never be able to shutdown the site or get a single dollar of fine money. Yeah tax dollars pissed away. BTW. They have to pay for them for there time in jail for these oh so dangerous criminals.

  • you can torrent in canada

  • @TheNuclearpolitics

How about this one then? My friend buys a cd or dvd and I borrow it from them. I then take that cd/dvd and insert it into my computer and RIP the content from the disk. They aren't putting the people who developed the ripper in jail. That is what most of this material is. Not all of the disks are encrypted the way you would find them from a rental store or kiosk. While pirating may be illegal, not all the companies who developed the technology to do so are in trouble.

  • Jon needs to go to jail!! he TOLD us to go to an 'illegal' site, which pirate-bay got convicted for!

  • How are they gonna make you go to jail? If anything the punishment would to purchase the shit you dled.

  • whoa... If this happened to piratebay, what'll happen to btjunkie, I wonder?

  • in a nut shell Pirate Bay went to jail for selling maps well what im trying to say os that Pirate Bay is nothing more then a map to wear the best tacos are lol

  • LOOL LOOL LOOL LOOL FREE DOWNLOADS FTW

  • i bet they kept the website up because everyone in the jury uses it still >:P

  • @DontTouchDryPaint Sweden doesn't have juries

  • lol guess wat a week later Sweden was like u bastard Americans can't boss us around, ur law doesn't apply here.

  • The owners haven't done anything illegal. The bazzilion users on the site are.So I don't call this justice. And also this just proves how much corporates want their money, instead of doubling their prison time they double the fines.Cash in anyone?

And also we all have reasons to pirate and we also have reasons for buying a product.

  • The things that you are more passionate about when they're produced better!

  • Do what you want cause a pirate is free, you are a pirate!

    YAR HAR FLIBERTY HEE!

BEING A PIRATE IS ALRIGHT WITH ME!

DO WHAT YOU WANT CAUSE A PIRATE IS FREE, YOU ARE A PIRATE!

    You are a pirate!

  • the pirate bay has more adds now (trying to earn the extra?)

  • @killinginthename88 whats an add? don't you have adblock installed??

  • more content plox

  • you blink alot in this video

  • The PirateBay Lives On

  • The pirate bay are a group of people who basically just create a lot of internet traffic by linking torrents so they can sell ads and get rich.

In short, they are essentially profiting off of other people's work so I don't give in to this self-righteous, moralistic bullshit they promote about freedom of speech. This is about them making money and it's about people wanting shit for free.

  • Another one will pop up when it goes down.

  • 2 things

1: the only time I torrent is for things that aren't on market, like games from the 80's and 90's

1: you seem to do the same thing I do which is blink when you say every 2nd word or just about.

  • I've used a torrent only once, and not technically illegaly. One of my PC games, Harry Potter and the Prizoner of Azkaban CD was broken, and I couldn't install it. So, I had to use the torrent to play it. Now, since I own the CD and it is physically in the room I am typing this, is it considered illegal?

  • @Pikerchu13 Yes, it is still illegal.

  • @Zedifo1 Actually, it's not.

If you own a physical copy of the game, you can download it.

  • @Pikerchu13 No. It's not.

  • You blinked a lot in this video!

  • jon! thank you so much for keeping me informed on what is going on outside of my cocoon..the news scares me and i don't like watch it, so i appreciate you keeping me up on things...ty

  • my ISP blocked it :(

  • @thehumangoing 1'st amendment = broken

  • "Providing a website with sophisticated search functions, (You mean like Google?)

simple downloading storage capabilities, (You mean like YouTube - or hell, any hosted website at all?)

and a tracker linked to the website that helped users commit copyright violations (the definition is so broad, it could be applied to the entire internet!)"

The simple fact of the matter is corporate interests (RIAA / MPAA) were involved and interfered in foreign courts to get this sentence through.

  • @EternalLight569 Google don't make search results ONLY for illegal downloads. PirateBay does.

YouTube is simply a video sharing site. You're not supposed to upload copyrighted content (Such as music videos) and you're not supposed to use something (Such as KEEPVID) to download videos.

And that last one, you can't apply that to the entire Internet. Maybe you should find out what exactly the Internet was created for and for a bit more information, what YouTube was created for.

  • yay 4 piratebay :-)

  • this is why you only download unsupported software (example - windows 2000 and lower, mac os x tiger and lower)

  • TPB is a cool site but

there are about 4 ads per page and a popup which gets really annoying

  • @xxxBradTxxx i know

  • @Macintosh3745 I sent them an email complaining about that yesterday. I hope they get rid of the pop-up.

  • jon, just got a question

the voice that announces the title "the world according to jon" what is that?

  • WTF i did not know that

  • I love ThePirateBay!!

  • i want you to make more fun good videos like your geocashing video or when you went to the ghost house fun good like that

  • It makes sense

    People lose money from torrents

    Illegaly

  • Wait, the copyright laws in Swedin are more relaxed than China? I thought China breaks like every copyright law out there. I'm watching this from an iPod touch so I can't see annotations.

  • first limewire now the pirate bay. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • The reason why Swedes are acting like this is because America is pushing Sweden into taking action. I know this from wikileaks.

  • Pirate Bay is swedish! =) and sweden pwns!!!

  • The pirate bay sucks. And Sweden is the best country ever. Why is it that The owners of the pirate bay wanted to do this?:(

  • @TheDarkestOne100 Ummmm... NO!!!! PIRATEBAY RULEZ!!!!!

  • @TheDarkestOne100 Completely untrue

  • Swedish this day's

  • BTW

DO NOT DOWNLOAD FrostWire. is freakin' slow just to downlaod one 3 minute song

  • Me: damn first LimeWire now PirateBay ? how do we get the thing we want now ?

Stranger: IDK ... uhh BUY THEM

    1: buy them ?

2: yes go to a store and buy the thing you want for your PC and taa daa you have what you want but this tme LEGALLY.

1:WOW you can do that ?!?!??

2:no duh. without the risks of viruses, cookies, trojans, and malware

    1: I`ll start now !

i do miss these providers but the risk of viruses were 1 in 12 (very likely)

i`ll just do the LEGAL thing now.

  • @yourface753 or you could go to one of a dozen other sites and get it. ie demonoid.me

  • @KingVipero that is a good question...

  • So will the site continue to operate? I know ISO hunt was like sued or somthing and they dont do anything anymore. And i like how your videos are and hope you keep posting ones that are less often and better produced.

  • dude if i was one of the founders i would go to jail after the time i would kick of the nus of the nearest cop so i could stale for time

  • WHY ISN'T IT OPENING WHEN I SEARCH IT IN GOOGLE WTF!!!!

    HELP ME!!!!

  • @xWillTheGlide im having the same problem Dx

  • I own hundreds of dvds and vhss. I also don't use tbp because I don't watch movies on my computer, but I do use movie streaming websites that work on my ipod. I normally buy dvds used for $4 or $5 apiece. Almost anything that I stream is something that I wouldn't have bought or I want to buy but can't find.

  • I counted 4 jump cuts.

  • your vids, yawn

  • Technically, Google does the same thing as The Pirate Bay. Type in "Download (insert album, movie, whatever)" and Google will display results from various torrent sites. But the record companies aren't going to sue Google. Google are big, wealthy and strong. They go after the little guys who can't defend themselves.

And there's also a big misconception that a download = a lost sale. If there wasn't ways to download music and movies illegally, People more often than not would just go without.

  • Stockholm is not the country

  • Screw quantity. Your videos rule for a reason, man. I personally find that my best work when it comes to writing articles for school or otherwise comes when it's a topic I have strong opinions about. My guess is that your best bet will be to follow that guideline of topics too.

  • The fuckin' government probably still need tpb for the "porn" section.

  • in a word, quality. your videos have always been of the highest quality-do not sacrifice that just for the sake of quantity. and even on things i don't necessarily agree with you on, i still RESPECT your opinion, because of that quality of thinking you have behind each and every opinion. keep it up and we fans shall support you till the end of time.

  • This whole "war on piracy" thing is a gigantic joke. The big name companies act as if piracy is single-handedly destroying them, which is not, and will never EVER be true.

Personally, I don't see anything wrong with piracy, it's sort of like "borrowing" in a sense. For example, If my friend has recently bought a book, and I borrow it and read the whole thing through, is that stealing?? I never paid for the book, but I got the material out of it. So shouldn't that apply to digital media as well?

  • @Scumpernickle I agree!!

  • @Scumpernickle

Not that I am against Piracy, I am in my right mind and I believe anyone who is will be only FOR piracy.

But what you say seems to not make sense, of course it might just be me not understanding you correctly.

    Please elaborate on these questions.

1: How can piracy not destroy companies by pirating their copyrighted material when by doing so it steals potential buyers and converts them into pirates, that is to be considered loss of sale (continuation in the next comment).

  • @Scumpernickle

Thus companies lose profit and the media created by them might prove to be more costly than profitable. At least that is how I see things.

2: You have used the example of borrowing a book from a friend, while companies would, I am sure, love that to be illegal, it would only be absurd if it were. However when you borrow a book from a friend you get the material in it, as you mentioned, but you do not own the book. This whole idea is not to let people own the material for free.

  • @Scumpernickle if you do it without his accept then yes its illegal, not as illegal as theft but still illegal to you it should be called. use theft and that is most certainly illegal, but not as illegal as basic theft, or robbery.

  • @supervegito2277 Sure, the police will come break down his door and arrest him for stealing his friend's book cause it's illegal.

  • @Scumpernickle look it totally agree that piracy is stupid, and I even do it. But, with your digital media borrowing question. That's why we have redbox, Family Video, etc. (i.e.: Renting)

  • @Scumpernickle damn dude, very interesting! I never thought of it that way.

  • @Scumpernickle

So, if one person lends a book to a friend, it is equivalent to 1 person lending a game to thousands of people?

That's two people reading a book and the company getting only the compensation from one, versus thousands of people getting a game and the company only getting the compensation for one.

  • @TheGloriousBeard yes but he's talking in terms of if its wrong. thats kind of like saying if only a few people drink and drive it's ok (IT'S NOT) but if lots of people do it then its wrong(which it is)

  • @Scumpernickle nope, big company's don't like borrowing without payment that goes to them.

so what you say is also stealing in there eyes.

but there wining actors they actually don't give a fuck if you study economic you will learn how company try to get max profit out of there product's this includes fighting piracy.

but they make enough just to buy a Ferrari and a villa but not enough for 20 Ferrari's, 3 villa's and a jet, it's a shame what money does to people.

  • thank god the sites still up!

  • Yarr, we be all bucaneers and booty hunters on this here comments page XD

  • What????

  • LOL. Don't worry Jon, I'll cover for you. xD

  • I like their "legal theats" section. its pretty funny

  • doesn't Lars have to sue himself for downloading Death Maginetic?

  • I'll just say firstly; Relaxed isn't a good word, I'd use permissive.

Secondly, I'm all in favour of going out and buying all original items instead of downloading all pirate but there are many cases in which all, DVDs, Music, Games and even most softwares, are pointlessly and insanely overpriced. I mean why waste good money on something obviously overpriced when I can get it free?

Lastly, a quick tip: Don't buy movies, watch them in the Cinema, or rent them. The purchase isn't worth it.

  • You blink alot :S

  • But it's not illegal, that's the thing. There was precedence in a 1970s case regarding using blank cassettes to record vinyl records and radio. Record companies complained and sued people over this, and eventually it was ruled that it was not illegal; you cannot provide the technology to the people and then reprimand them for it.

  • downloading Inception >:D

  • oh god this is not good this is not good XD

  • 20 usd for a movie? 11 usd for a album????

here we pay 40/50 even 60€ for a movie and 20/30 for an album...

    that's why piratebay exist's

  • THis channel sucks! thats just my opinion! but im subcribed anyways cus u always got interesting news ;o

  • Hey Jon! I have a question; What do you think about the iPhone 4 OR Apple Inc. Itself? Hope you Will video reply :D

  • it still is relaxed. but they(sweden) where pressured by USA to sentence them,

p.s, the total damage, was 21 billion dollars , in total, of things that have been reported, but that is estemated to be only 15 % of the total:D

  • less content better produced, i like your technology reviews, very useful

  • for the record, the piratebay servers are now hosted in germany and belgium, with backup servers all over the world. Sweden has to jump through alot of hoops to get it taken down

also they cant stop piracy just from shutting down limewire and arresting the owners of thepiratebay. Millions of intelligent people (emphasis on intelligent) download copyrighted material. Its not that hard too come up with solutions or alternatives, its been happening for the last 10 years, great progress eh?

  • Its alright, they can just put the fine on their credit card....

  • "We don't have that kind of money.. We make almost no money at all hosting the site, and even if we had the money to pay the fine, we would burn it and not even give them the ashes" / One of the piratebay owners.

  • I never got to enter it... Every time I tried I was stopped by some message saying something about that it was banned(or whatever) because it was illegal.

  • Uh... I'll say, do more (quantity) videos, but if something really important comes up, do an in-depth.

Nice green-screening (even though it's not green...)

  • demonoid

  • @TheMachinimanator Better have a lot of reg codes handy... :P

  • YAAAAARRR!

  • it is wrong they say it is free

  • Ftp, right now stands for "free the piratebay"..

    /watch?v=KQsB0qLDoCQ

    A ftp piece on a copcar. ;-)

  • I guess less content, better produced . . .

  • Usenet is next

  • Stupid draconian copyright laws. Nobody ever considers the artists don't really care.

  • more passionate topics for sure

  • Seriously, only noobs use pirate bay

  • @silentscope22 What do non-noobs use, then?

  • LONG LIVE THEPIRATEBAY!

  • @ForgottenMemmory ME TOO

  • dude the really funny thing is when you go to it's site at the bottom of the page it's says piratebay.ca lol

  • @acores07 Cos the server isn't in Sweden its like in Russia or something

  • ... for every download they get about 1.80$... there are about 3,275,943 downloads

in any ways ,they will still stay rich >.>

  • @promki Wat how do you figure that.

  • yarrrg we all be filthy pirates. 3 cheers me hardies.

  • @Jerkish2120: It can't possibly be because TBP likes to broadcast loud and clear to the rest of us that Sweden's copyright laws are more lax than in the US. (You don't have a DMCA equivalent that would make TBP illegal.)

  • Swedens court sucks, There's a tv program here in sweden called Fusk byggarna or in english Cheating builders and there was one guy who called in sick for about

3 years, Then the court decided the drop the charge :/

  • i downloaded sonic adventure 2 ._. damn

  • @AllStarKingD I probably only downloaded like some sound effects from there. I knew I had to use a torrent client.

  • *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink* *blink*

  • @ubeentrolled How much times have you trolled Jon? Got anything better to do with your life?

  • @H3nroX Since I'm from Sweden I know a bit more about punishments you get in Sweden for doing certain crimes.

The founders of PirateBay got 46 million Swedish Crowns (SEK) and 10 months in prison.

The murderer of a 12 years old girl some years ago got 70 000 SEK (10 300 USD) fine and 12 years in jail I believe.

Is this really right? Sure, the murderer got 10 or 12 years in jail but he didn't have to pay shit really.

Piratebay is rich so of course they going to extort them.

  • i support pirate, i have 2 piratbay t shirts, 5 badges and a hoody...

i don't know how much i need to thank piratebay for what they have givin' me.

    Piratebay FTW.

  • remember, most of these sites never shutdown they just move to a different address! :)

  • i mean i pirate stuff but seriously when i hear they shut limewire down and now the pirate bay jailtime thing. it just makes me think back when they busted everyone on napster and the govt went apeshit so im kinda paranoid when i illegally download a mad men episode am i stealing it yes will i buy the show season maybe? lol

  • In my country (Romania)... A few months ago some guys had the idea to make a pirate parliament... They did not make it because they didn't got the permission...
