As a 49ers fan, im hoping they trade the 30th overall draft pick to PIT for WR Mike Wallace who's an RFA. Then, im hoping that a team gives up a second rounder for ILB Larry Grant who's also an RFA. After that, im hoping they trade one of their two second rounders and their third to get back into the first round for Fleener. I then trade Delanie Walker (who'll be gone in 2013) to the highest bidder. Offense easily improves with a few simple moves. Hopefully, HarBaalke can pull these moves off!!!
think the 49ers might draft this guy and convert him into a wr? he looks like a better receiver prospect then reubin randle who mel kiper predicts the 49ers will draft.
@healthyandyoung Or they could just keep him as a TE, with Davis. Patriots did it with Gronkowski and Hernandez. But at 6'6 and a 4.5 40. He'd be a beast at any receiving position, I just hope he can block well....
@Afu916Mento well stanford is a power running team so he must have learned to block well and he's big enough to be an effective blocker. he's a great talent but delanie walker is a really good #2 tight end i'd rather see this guy put in as a receiver because delanie walker is not their weakness. they would be better off addressing wr, ol, or cb with the first round.
49ers should draft this guy since Alex Smith will be starting. Smith to TEs is gold. Put Fleener opposite of VD and take a page out of the Pats book. 49ers can't seem to get good WRs in the 1st round anyways.
Thats not a bad idea, but it really depends on what happens in FA. If we can sign a decent Fa Wr, we should trade back. There will be nobody at the 30th pick who will blow anybody in the 2nd round out the water for our needs, so if we trade back for a high 2nd round pick, we can still draft him and draft another Wr with our other 2nd round pick. It really depends what happens in FA, because we do NEED Wrs, but TEs are becoming harder and harder to defend and ours run like Wrs.
@hunterman823 Yes we do. But the only WR's available in the 1st round. Run the same 40time as fleener. But they aren't nearly as tall. And like the kid said. Alex is good at throwing to TE's and Multiple TE's is all part of Harbaugh's package. It really is a win win. Also witht the fact that the talented receivers will be waiting for us in 2nd and 3rd round. After Blackmon and Floyd no WR is worth any concideration until the 2nd rd.
We should really just draft the best playmaker at 30. Wr, or TE. Walker is a nice #2 TE to have, but hes is inconsistent and drops alot of balls. Hes not going to be offered a starter job if he hits the FA, so its a good chance he will stay on a winning team where he will be lining up as a 3rd TE where he can motion out wide, or in the backfield. Im starting to realize that C.Fleener will be the best value pick at 30. Draft him then draft or trade up for Rueben Randle in the 2nd
@mikehphoto either Meachem or Colston would be great to have, but I'm not sure if it's the WRs, the QB or the Saints' system that makes both those guys standouts. Bowe seems to do it without so much help from the QB or offensive scheme. Of the Jacksons available, I prefer Vincent to Desean, since the niners already have a speedster in Ginn.
@bassiehd Brees is no peyton manning,he was as mediocre as alex his years in SD, there is no doubt that he's got talented WRs all around him as well as hours to throw the ball. I picked meachem because I feel many of the others will take too much $ to get here. Desean would be a Ginn that can also catch really well...lol. I wouldn't underestimate how big of an upgrade that would be to Ginn especially with two athletic big TEs taking attention away from him.
@mikehphoto Brees' first couple of yrs in SD were nothing to write home about but he hit his stride in his 3rd yr, his QBR was 105. The end of the following year, he hurt his shoulder badly, & that's when SD traded him. Ginn is a much better and more consistent returner overall than Desean, that & the kicking game are what gave the Niners their great relative field position all year.
@bassiehd But I'm not picky, these guys are top talent. I can't remember a recent time when more #1 wrs were potentially going into the free agent market. I don't see us realistically getting bowe. But this is a big enough crop of guys that we have to be able to get one of them...
@bassiehd Honestly, i think harbaugh likes his TE's more than his recievers. Don't be surprised if the niners use that 1st round on Coby. I say we sign a free agent WR like Dwayne Bowe, Marques Colston ( I wish), or Desean Jackson. Then draft Coby, the offense would improve drastically
@Franchize414 TEs tend to be taller, heavier and better blockers than WRs. If you have one who can run like a WR (e.g. Davis or Fleener) & get open, then you've got something. I still think SF needs wideouts, however. I personally would love to see Dwayne Bowe in a different shade of red, but KC'd have to be batshit crazy not to franchise him.
@bassiehd Oh yeah, no doubt the niners need wideouts. But i do think if we can sign Dwayne Bowe like you said, i think it then would be a great opportunity to draft Coby Fleener. My main reason is that Harbaugh loves the 3 TE set when he was at Stanford, imagine if we had the 3 TE set with Davis, Walker, and Fleener it would be very difficult for linebackers and safeties to cover all that. If were able to get Bowe, our redzone formation could have Fleener,Davis,Walker, and Bowe at WR!
