great my walkers a hunter horse now and that is such a damn lie u don't have to do that stupid shit walkers have great knees and very good balence i hate ppl who say they don't..i mean really? I've had a paint fall on me in a turn when i do the same with my walker and nothing happens this horse is amazing!!!
What most don't know is, where TWH's came from ...the Tennessee Walking Horse is a composition of Narragansett and Canadian Pacer, Standardbred, Thoroughbred, Morgan, and American Saddlebred stock. Originally bred as a utility horse. Once you ride a TWH, you'll be looking to own one, guaranteed! Keep showing all these folks what TWH's can & will freely & willingly do! 2 thumbs up ....
You should slow him/her? down before approaching the jump. Every single one of your jumps was dangerously long and could have caused both of you some damage if you had gotten a hair longer. Work on slowing him down or shortening his stride before the jump for your safety.
Walkers are GREAT jumpers... I learned to jump my highest on a STUBBORN walking horse.. but I ride western so I taught myself and two other horses to jump. now they are great jumpers:)
walkers are pretty when they jump but can be little fast and they jump really higher then the high of the bar on the jump is. nice jumping. I used to jump doing courses at a jumping barn and i still jump but not as much at my western barn now. nice video.
Yes They Can, I have a Gaited Pony (Check her out on my channel. And she loves to Gallop, our favorite is Galloping across open feelds and darting around Tumble Weeds at break neck speeds.
so, this is a Tennessee walking horse? Jumping?! Wow, maybe I should teach my horse how to jump that high, hes pretty good at jumping, i thought that most gaited horses don't/shouldn't jump. :) Guess I was wrong. :)
he 'clears' the obstacles but is not truly jumping but taking huge elevated canter strides. See takeoff :34. His hooves nearly smack his belly, but knees are not tucked together, one foot is coming forward. Rider is also falling forward over his neck, impossible for him to rate speed, gather and tuck, he must go forward to keep himself under her! He is effectively clearing the maximum height for his current ability, a shame as high jump record (8'4", IIRC) is held by a gaited horse.
ANY horse can jump. The proper questions are: can (s)he jump correctly, safely, with a rider. Is the conformation such that the horse will not damage legs, spine, hips? Is the rider sufficiently capable of staying out of the horses way, not upsetting balance or timing.
NEVER jump a gaited horse with anything other than after at least one year progressive schooling with naturally balanced feet, to allow the muscles and ligaments time to strengthen and realign for their new job.
I guess I don't understand why people say that 'jumping a gaited horse can't be easy' I understand that they don't trot, ( I own a TWH) but my guys jumps just fine, and we can extend or collect his canter so that the approach is as correct as we can make it. (I am an amature jumper, no expert). I have seen my horse jump a 5 ft fence with precision cause he was impatient to get to his stall for the evening feed. Is there something I am missing? Why are they supposed to be bad jumpers?
It's purely a over fences class, geared to be like a hunter class, however we're not held to usef standards yet! Polos, boots, bell boots, ect are all allowed, mostly because TWHs have to VERY careful of cuts and scars on their front legs, scars on both pasterns means a huge fine and being banned.
my Walker is a jumper too. i dont have a video of us jumping, but i do have a ton of pics. he is the smoothest jumper i have ever been on! this horse proves that Walkers can do more than just gait & i love that!
well he really cant i work every day on him and no luck but he can jump small cross bars i think walkers jump better than any horse do you have a horse?
everyone has to start somewhere.. she'll get better in time. The only way she'll improve is practice. The only way to learn to ride a horse is to get on and try. No one's perfect, it's all a work in progress. Maybe go back to smaller jumps and horse that's more experienced so she can concentrate on her position with less to worry about, jumping a gaited horse can't be easy :)
it looks weird cos its obv not been bred into the horse to jump but it looks good fun! like its exagerated and long but it looks kinda easy to follow and go with, maybe i'm wrong, anyways its just about going out and having fun eh!
Had a little trouble fitting those 4 strides in. Better than the other way around. I am amazed at what a nice long stride this horse has and plenty of scope. Very cool.
Being round does over jumps does not old pertain to the TWH breed. Each horse is different just as some TB or other breeds commonly known for jumping are not as round as others. I rode hunters for many years, have done WP QH and dressage. Now I have walkers and they can have just as round and animated jump as other breeds.
any horse can jump if they are trained to. Its jsut liek training a TB to jump. If they are cantering its collecting them over the jump. When TWH's Gait you are supose to round them up becasue they are more likley to pace if the are hollow. Its just how you train the horse it NEVER has to do with steriotypes of the breed.

I think this is sooo cool, I jumped and have always avoided Walkers when looking at a horse to buy, but this is definitely making me rethink that :]

Any horse can jump, but the gaited breeds have tendancys that make the technical elements of jumping 10 times harder to master.
