lol this happened to me the other day.. but i didn't completely go over.. a few minutes later one of the stays broke and the whole mast came crashing down... really bad day..
@m287452 cheap and fun, just has that issue with pitch poling. If you keep your weight much further back than these guys are it's not as much of a problem.
@m287452 cheap, fast, fun, SUPER seasy to rig and can handle anywhere from solo to 4 people. it's only the pitchpoling problem, but that is still pretty rare.
If you always turtle, you likely have leaks in your mast. Take it off the boat and put it under water. Where you see the bubbles, you have leaks. Seal them with silicone, and you shouldn't have a problem turtling.
It was 2003. I was the instructor on the boat. Nice to discover it on the wildwind site! brilliant commentary Pasty! If possible, would like to have it in high quality....
some fine instruction from our man benny the weapon. I think the phrase sheet in and bare away seems to a dead givaway that they might be doing it on " purpise " cocksmokers
Jib oversheet and crew not back far enough. bad sailing

@bryce65 As Far as Im aware, Its less likely to damage it than using a gennaker
Ive got another video of a hobie 16 pitchpoling at Vass, This time upwind - i thought this was impossible?!?! can anyone explain?
MrSchnik 1 year ago
Why do you pitchpole so much times?...
I've been sailing with 8bft and I didn't capsized or made a pitchpole...

Why are 16's so popular if they are so easy to crash?

really good camera angle for that pitchpole.
Its so easy to space out and forget to ease the jib when the bow starts to dig. I do it all the time haha. Skipper not always happy though.

Looks like the hulls are full, it isn't very high in the water in the last scene... either that or the lads on there are a couple of fatties ;-)

It has no mast float; how does it not turtle; mine always turtles.
1DanielChristensen 2 years ago
Mine never turtles. Just don't put any weight on the mast side and don't linger to get it upright again.

marcelleebaethge 4 years ago
Yes it's on purpise, if you bare away at the last moment its unlikely you het something
