  • Awesome glasses!

  • dude seriously you rock

  • its a tribute to one of the greatest bands of all time made by famouse 8bit artists so respect to them for making that cd! and if anyone think it doesnt sound 8bit ur wrong : P

  • Chiptune is not Nintendo only...

in western world we prefer to use real computers...

  • Kraftwerk dont pretend make vgm music...

    in fact the do minimalism

  • LOL "I think their vocals have passions too much. Now we Japanese know the VOCALOID very much." The people on 8 bit forums will be quoting that for quite a while now. Thanks.

  • will you write a game boy lsdj review Jetdaisuke?

    thanks! amazing work =D

  • Yea the album was a bit dry. It was a really good Idea but I think they should have worked more on allot of the songs. It just seemed like the songs were written too basic and should of had allot more multiple harmonies and all together song structure to keep the interest of the listener. The last song on the album sounded perfect though because it was live, and busy.

  • @dexelio - also download SIDPlay, it comes with a library of Commodore64 style music.

  • atiobito opareto

  • so, I've been trying to look for 8-bit music, any recommendations?

  • @dexelio nordloef, sabrepulse, usk, covox, IAYD, disco king, to name a few

  • Hey... your life too

  • i agree with that :)

  • I prefer to run emulators, does not sound that much like the real stuff either but at least it does not hog so much precious disk space.

    :)

  • I think it is a great album! Especially "Tanzmusik" and "Spacelab".

    Also, すごいめがねですよ!

    Auf wiedersehen... (≖‿≖)

  • Hahaha... i like it when he says "we japanese know the real 8 bit"

  • mm whats that? another copied cd is it?

  • lol. that is the japanese issue and surprising more expensive. almost all the labels do that.

  • Hey Jetdaisuke!

nice, what are your top 5 chiptunes of all times

  • yay, you discovered hot water!

i had this album 2 years ago... focken basementdweller

  • Japanese used to know 8 bit but not anymore. All of the good chiptune artists are now American, canadian, and even European. Japanese passed the torch.

  • Very much true, but they are crazy with the MML!

  • Break your glasses !

  • Hey Jetdaisuke!

What are your favourite chiptunes from video games?

  • Packman

  • why do those English subtitles keep disappearing?

  • I'm not Japanese but I agree, this CD does not sound like 8-bit music at all...

  • Yes Yes Yes!

  • It was made entirely with real 8 bit and 4 bit video gaming consoles like gameboy classic (the fat one from 1989), Commodore 64, Atari 2600, amiga and so.

  • I guess so, although Amiga was 16 bit ;) I dunno most of the 8 bit music I know is from the MSX and my friends C64 (which already sounded very different from MSX music) so that's what I'm comparing it to. I'm sure they used the things you said it just doesn't sound much like what I'm used to :)

  • ah, ok, I'm not into amiga tracker scene, I guess there are some of the artists using it. with a tracker in the real wardware, btw.

all this people is very devote to purism but they are not convinced in using just squarewaves and childish melodies, or a basic setup of sounds. that would be too obvious and maybe dumb (for some of them). please check the whole worldwide scene, there were no much than 50 gameboy musicians in the world when it started ! really. most of the names are there .

  • no it wasn't... there are 808 claps and other drum samplse all over the place! as well as reverb and other post processing

  • you are wrong about 808's and drum samples. those are 8-bit computer sounds . the claps and such you talk of are from the Apple II computer and Atari Falcon. Some have 8-bit sampling but that's it! the uninformed should stop guessing and read up :P

  • I know an 808 sample when i hear it. the first track on the album has 808 clap with reverb on it.

  • that's the Atari Falcon 8-bit samples, on the Gameboy they are 4-bit even. any samples are those contained the lo-bit devices programs and trackers .This album came out over 2 years in the US, there's a lot of info online about how each track was made. Gamespy has a particularly good one with interviews.

  • btw the accompanying CD booklet has in-depth info, links, bios on each artist and what they and the scene uses.

  • souds like you cant see the chip forest for the marioworld trees... that sounds and effects you ment are part of the demoscene tracker culture from many years ago, all didnt ended in single squarewaves and coin sounds !! please get informed ! enjoy the culture, maybe VORC or NO ERROR are good starting points . good luck !

  • @megamarsvin then you are a moron if you cant hear the lsdj,c64 and amiga ..just because not all parts such as sometimes the beat isnt made with a gameboy, doesnt mean its not 8bit music :P

  • @l4vey Was it worth digging up a year old comment to call someone a moron for something like this? I hope it made you feel like a big man.

  • @megamarsvin yes was totally worth it, thank you!

  • @l4vey Glad I could help ;D

  • The best song from Kraftwerk is Das Modell

  • His glasses didnt have any uhhh glass? you know...the things we use to see thru?

well anyways i think thats a style :)

  • megane ga kakkoi na

  • i love that album, 8 Bit Weapon rocks!

  • mmmm kraftwerk ^_^

  • do you have nanoloop for GBA? it was developed by oliver witchow and used on that cd. I cant recommend it since KORG DS-10 came out but you might want to track it down for fun.

  • I know it. but now it is hard to get a GBA.

  • Oh! my NDS has a GBA slot! hahaha

  • I disagree about "real 8-bit." If you ask a Japanese gamer or many American gamers what 8-bit sounds like, they will point to the NES/Famicom sounds. That's what I grew up on, and it's what sounds the most 8-bit to me.

Ask some other American gamers or many European gamers what 8-bit is and they will point to an old Amiga or Commodore 64 computer, and they will be equally as correct as those pointing to NES.

Personally, I prefer the NES style, but it's really a matter of personal history.

  • if u watch a porn wich says full nude u can expect some dressed ladies also

  • True wisdom or gibberish spam? You decide!

  • point is it doest have to be full 8-bit to call it 8 bit it can be part 8 bit aswell

  • Many of the sounds at least in their samples are sounds of other 8-bit computers, like Amiga and Commodore 64.

  • Exactly. A lot of chiptune artists tend to use the C64's sound or at least something that sounds a lot like it. It is still 8-bit sound, but not the same as NES/Famicom 8-bit sound.

  • no sampling there ! that are real consoles and old computers, programmed in the real machines (gameboy per example) and further processing (post multitrack recording)

  • From participating in Famicompo Mini, I have learned that the entries from Japan try more to maintain the nostalgic sound of 8-bit video games when they compose. In the US and Europe, there is this idea that the old hardware must be pushed to limits and make sounds that were never intended on the equipment. My viewpoint is, although I do not believe that people in 2009 should make 8-bit music sound only nostalgic, I dislike too much effect. Also, Japan did not have the European "demoscene".

  • WAHAHAHAH

Quote" I think it's not for Japanese listener" "We Japanese know the real 8 bit"

WAHAHAHAHAH soo good keep up the good work

  • what is the cable you used for your i touch?

  • It converts standard plug to mini plug

  • Awesome! I totally have to get this.

  • Great album!!!

Hey jetdaisuke, please I want a review of the YMCK albums!!!

  • All their songs are good :)

  • yah yah tell it like it is jetdaisuke

  • good review as always...neat to see you are using subtitles now.... agree with you about the 8-bit music! you are the man!

  • Nice Headphones jet!!

  • 8-bit op is the shit yo.

  • LOL!

  • jetdaisuke

can you advise a couple of 8bit artists worth listening to, from a japanese point of view?

  • Their tunes don't remind me of Nintendo games.

They should learn how to make YMCK.

I think their vocals have passions too much.

Now we Japanese know the VOCALOID very much.

  • YMCK is awesome, but their sound is traditional video-game like. That's great and i have all they've done, but only liking that sound is like only liking rock that sounds like the blues.

  • just wanted to say thanks, because i got ymck as you advised and it's great:)

  • i agree with you jet, 8bit brings SID and C64 to mind, not Kraftwerk.

  • Kraftwerk is going to perform here in Brasil at march, and I'm going to see them! YAY They're awesome.

  • Kraftwerk is awesome.. I don't know any (old) japanese 8-bit bands.. I wonder what songs did you listen to and what did you like most.

  • Saitone is great

  • hey!! not only japanese people know what real 8-bit is lol

  • It wasn't very good? I was going to buy that album. I also like the real 8-bit stuff. You can easily tell the difference between simple synth sounds and actual 8-bit music.

  • ツールドフランスは入ってますか?

  • ないっす。アマゾンあたりで検索すると曲目わかりますよ

  • そういえば、"Anamanaguchi" は 8-bit music の一押しですよ

  • Helix Nebulaいいですね。

  • Anamanaguchi IS from NYC!

  • Haha! That's a beast of an adapter!

  • But!! that is good headphone for professional studio monitor

  • They look like they would sound amazing.

    What are they?
