I can tell you why he changed it I e-mailed him about it not too long ago. Here is what he said in his response: "Ah yes, I had forgotten but those were the original lyrics. I wrote that on behalf of a guy named Andrew Zolli, who wanted to send it out as a Christmas Card. As I recall he thought those lyrics might offend some folks, and he was probably right, so I changed them to the other one. That recording must have found its way to you from him somehow, I don't think it was ever made public."
that was after he didn't realize what I was talking about when I told him about another version of it. After sending the lyrics, he remembered. So the one with the nailing santa to a cross is the original, where the giant metal santas is the newer version that he did release, there is the answer for your thoughts ^ ^
