  • @xFubar05x i'm gonna recommend a skydiving rave for an epileptic, Alzheimer's 80 year old man.

  • sage francis is a spectacular artist and this is probably my favourite song by him. you can always find something new in his lyrics when you hear it more than once and it's really beautiful hearing the meaning and emotion he puts into his songs. you can also really tell he loves what he does. i wish i had the previlege of knowing him, but yet it almost feels as if i do, through his music.

  • @xFubar05x "rave to an epileptic kid" lmfao.

  • This was the song on my ex's and I's old joint MySpace which could be the reason why I get the chills when I hear it.

  • @Ylwbusridah420 naww man , we all do , its art . it invokes true emotion , thats why we never here real hip hop on the radio their'd be a revolution ,if everyone , had the ability to feel.

  • If anyone finds lil wayne better then sage francis he/she should be publicly hung (Y)

  • this is the best song ever made he is the shit

  • This song is so beautiful. His lyrics are pure poetry.

  • "can you hear me, love?" goosebumps..

  • one of the most talented musicians ive ever had the pleasure of listening too...pure poetry backed with mind numbing beats!!

  • I'm a deathmetaller.

  • This is art

  • The name of the album is "Hope", produced by Joey Beats. I believe it came out around 2003, after Personal Journals.

  • i cannot find this on an album anyone help out?

  • @2kosacko I think this song is actually a Non-Prophets track which is Sage Francis and Joey Beats, check out the groups albums, it might be on one of those

  • @2kosacko

    Non-prophets album, called Hope.

The song, and the related tattoo craze from this song are where the most recent Sage album "Li(f)e got it's title.

  • BRILLIANT. What else can be said?

  • this..is fucking rapping..

  • wow this song is pure emotion and probabky one of the best songs of all time, keep up the amazing work sage!

  • It's the way that i'm walking in between a cradle and coffin.

    Love that line.

  • I remember having this on my ipod in 2005 while traveling in Ireland. riding thru the hills at dusk with this song on was as spiritual of a moment that i can remember in my life.

  • I feel ya sage...

  • RIP EYEDEA

  • @1scumball MAN! I had idea (no pun intended) that he died in October.

I saw your comment and googled that mess. FREAKIN-A THAT SUX!!!

  • ^^^one person doenst wanan be cured?

  • This song is actually by Non-Prophets, which Sage Francis leads. Such a beautiful song, I know how he was feeling when he wrote this.

  • @simulatdprophet I'm sure you don't

  • @VulgarityDivine maybe not, but i can definitely relate to it. A good song can be interpreted in many ways..

  • This song is beyond legit, my love goes out to Sage (:

    He raps the truth.

  • I once asked this kid if he knew who Sage Francis was. He said "Sage who?"....I punched him in the gut :p

  • @bbasketballstr11

Beating up infants in the name of Hip-Hop - truly you've embraced Sage's teachings well :)

  • How do you not like that trumpet?

  • I really like Sage. Also, I really like Lil' Wayne. Why do the two have to be mutually exclusive?

  • this songs intense

  • This is where it came from. "Life is just a lie with an 'F' in it, and death is definite."

    LI(F)E

  • Emcees < "Rappers" Backpackers < "gun clappers".

  • @ZaKAttaK716 and i just gotta say that i listened to this 3 times straight. aww shit now its 4.

  • Greatest song ever, deserves way more credit. This guy is a genius unmatched in this time of lyrical/poetic mastery. Its unfathomable to me how he comes up with these. He's untouchable, like shakespeare.

  • Hes a great writer, reciter but people enjoy different things. You cant exactly get girls to shake their booties to this but just for the pure art and real hip hop its great.

  • Off the non-prophets album. ILL.

  • this song speaks to the inner facets of my soul.

  • does anyone know what album this is off of?

  • Sage Francis - the greatest writer I've ever heard or read.

  • life is just a lie with an "f" in it and death is definite.

  • Sage Francis is what god's breath must smell like....fresh

  • @Konscious415 nice

  • "You're not the traveling type? Then hide your baggage better,

before you die a normal death and write the average letter"

Anyone help me out with the meaning behind this?

  • @skarules111 Ok, this is just my thoughts on it but I think one way of looking at those lines is... You're internal feelings (Emotional baggage under the surface) aren't as hidden as you'd like to think.

And the second bit makes you think about a suicide note as the average letter after dying a 'normal' death but I really think it could be talking about the death of something within the person and the average letter is the beginnings of the sort of poetry that only really comes from sadness.

  • this song is sooooo sick

  • great song

  • kinda sounds like the beat from that one song from flobots but still sick ass fuck love this song

  • Lyricaly so so sick.....deep

  • better then sex

  • Sage is amazing

The words "Life is nothing but a lie with a F in it, but death is definite" moves me so much.

and when i write off the world it is in sloppy mispelled words.

One of the best hip hop songs of all time!

  • my mind just broke

  • wow, i trip over ever word,

  • this song is beautiful on so many levels.

The words are just so well written

    gotta love sage! =D

  • one of the most beautifully produced and written hip hop songs of all time.

  • lyrics...

  • Don't deny that sick feeling in your stomach, you can't run from it. Let it guide you into high view, then move beyond the summit. From peaks to valleys feet through alleys if it's done quick... etc. Listen to him... you can hear every word clearly.

  • i understand him dude, im just saying lyrics... as in how they are

  • Underground music : )

  • i was in a hardcore band before, everyone of my lyrics was inspired by sage and aesop. people underestimate the amount of punk/metal kids that love this stuff.

  • wow, two great fuckin artists. i love sage and aesop.

  • and Sage Francis is on Epitaph ! :P

  • really never knew that, dont pay attention to labels much but i know epitah is quite punk, i thought sage just did all self releases. im pretty sure personal journals is.

  • personal journals is on anticon. healthy distrust is epitaph

  • Personal Journals is on Strange Famous Records. It was on Anticon but that had to change.

  • @XynoArtz SAGEE FRANCISS!!!

  • @christophemillertime I feel ya. I'm a metal head and I love this.

  • i love how hip hop just brings people together, no worries about the things that do not matter.

  • @christophemillertime Yeah! I just did a tag tam rap attack on a poser guy with this other rapper I just met. We were epic and then we became right after homies. Wordd. It was coool.

  • @christophemillertime Cheers mate

  • Fucking Non-Prophets. The Cure and Damage. Best songs ever.

  • WOOOOOOOOOORD! I wore that CD out on those two tracks!!! Man I had this back in the day when I lived in Cali. My girl used to work as a security guard at an auto lot and I would go chill wit her all late at night and bump this CD

  • Yo where is this trumpet from? I swear to God I heard this somewhere before but it's driving me crazy I can't remember where.

Sage Francis is dope, no doubt.

  • o shit! i think u might be thinking of handlebars by flobots from 1:46 - 2:15 theres a trumpet and as soon as i read your comment i felt like i heard it too.

yea both trumpets but they are different, but yea one reminds you of the other.

    had to look that up!!

  • On gorillaz debut cd there is a song with the same trumpet. Latin Simone perhaps, not sure.

  • this was the first song i listened to the first time i ever smoked weed...loved it then and still love it now

  • iLL

  • I am a female Metalhead and I love Sage. This is probably my favorite non-metal song ever!!!! (and sea lion by sage.. )

  • haha me too. My ex got me into him and I love Sage now!

  • hahaha thats awesome, i am also i guess what you would call a "metalhead," and sage is one of my favorite writers in music

  • @DiminutiveOgre i love metal, and i love sage. im glad you can appreciate other music other than metal, i know too many of my metal head freinds can listen to anything but the genre

  • @DiminutiveOgre i like metal but i listen mostly too hip-hop, idk why people seem ashamed too admit that they like diff kinds of genre of music, whats the big deal...not YOU, but your comment just reminds me of people who have to say something like "i hate hip-hop but i love THIS song" no that means you like hip-hop than, theres propably 1,000 other songs from sage you'd love if you looked

  • thought ive heard all sages shit, but no! i agree this is one of his greatest, speaks to my heart

  • seriously one of the greatest songs ever... i remember listenin to this the first time i heard sage

  • Fucking white rappers kick so much ass

  • one of his best.

  • couldn't agree more- sage 4 li(f)e!

  • god this song is so chill, it gives me shivers

  • wow first time i've ever heard this song.. and its amazing

  • "When a boy writes off the world it's done with sloppy misspelled words if a girl writes off the world it's done in cursive"

    Love it

  • yeah i was really payin attention to that line. i like his style..especially on cafe girl

  • Thanks for putting up this video, I find myself listening to it everyday.

  • life is just a lie with an "f" in it and death is definite

  • iLL

  • can someone tell me what kind of instrument is that playing throughout the song? is it a french horn? or a trumpet?

  • Trumpet

  • Its a mariachi horn

  • thanks

  • Sage is trying to warn people of the New World Order. If you don't know what it is look it up, this isnt about beats and that non sense. Its about rich people taking over your life and you don't even understand it.

  • you are dumb.

this song is not about the new world order.

quit life u suck at it.

  • how unnecessary is this comment from OutOfLine3

  • dude...

  • Oh but it is about the beats. And recognizing the cycles with every passing day.

  • So sick!!!! Sage rules!

  • eyo can sum1 tell me who produced this track. i love this type of rap were u have a beautiful beat with nothin but pure poetry. if anyone no's any songs similar 2 dis masterpiece please reply .

  • A lot of Atmosphere is very similar. Try "Woman With the Tattooed Hands," "Little Man," and "God's Bathroom Floor."

  • A lot of Sage is similar to this as well... same with Eyedea... try Even Shadows have Shadows

  • Joe Beats produced this and all of the other Non Prophets songs

  • hell ya. i rec. seeing sage live!

  • iLLy!!!! L0Ve UNDERgR0UNd!!!! <3

  • Sage, kills it everytime :D

But for real, what is hip-hop nowadays? If I were of african descent I am pretty sure I could make a rap song and make millions, its sad. Now, if I were to create a rap song on Sage's level there is no way I would survive the mental stability that involves writing lyrics like Sage's. If you want a laugh, listen to this whole song then go listen to "Get Silly" and try to take that seriously XD

  • good point...

other than the African descent... there's some amazingly intelligent rappers from African ascent... that's irrelevant.

  • I don't think that was his point, he is saying that only people of African descent that are mainstream rappers get anywhere.

  • As a person of "African descent" I have to agree with Br0k3nS41nt.

Though referring to Black people as being of "African descent" is counter productive.
