  • My dad knew someone who wanted to re-create the Horseshoe Curve in his backyard using I think G gauge. He never did it though. That's sad because I would have loved to seen it.

  • It's hard to tell the difference between S gauge and O gauge. What's the difference between the two?

  • @dwarrren9 Good Question:

Short answer-size of train and number of rails. Long answer---

    For starters, size:

O gauge in the US is defined at 1/48 scale, such that 1/4 inch in the model world equals 1 foot in the real world.

O gauge in Europe is 1/43

S gauge is somewhat smaller at 1/64 scale, the size of most Matchbox cars, and 3/16 inch model world equals 1 foot real world.

  • Next is realism:

Most O gauge products sold in the US are intended for use with 3-rail Hi-rail track. This is considered by railroad purists as toylike, but Lionel started the trend and it is very popular. This scales's rolling stock has uncharacteristicly large flanges on the wheels making them less likely to derail, but also less realistic. S gauge has more prototypical flanges looking more realistic, and of course, S gauge is 2-rail.

  • @SMARTTinc I hope to build my own model railroad someday. It is a great hobby for somebody who wants to learn basic engineering and creativity skills. I've thumbed through the many layouts people have shown on YouTube. There is really no other hobby with as many possibilities as model railroading. My dad built a railroad table back before I was born, and since then we've run out of room in our house. The table is pretty big, but I hope my dad doesn't get rid of it!

  • @dwarrren9 You're right. There is no other hobby that can dip into as many different real world talents and skills as model railroading. It's amazing.

  • Are any of these comments "ringers?"

  • @paullubliner You are certainly free to click on the username for any of the senders and verify for yourself whether or not they exist. Personally, it takes more than enough time to keep up with one account, let alone a multitude of fictitious ones as well. Now, did you have any train related comments???

  • This is an amazing layout.....there are simply no words to describe the craftsmanship, and detail painstakingly taken to create this masterpiece. I loved every minute. Please post more!
