@FireyNinja It's a bit like the Battle Hymn of the Republic I think :) I don't think anyone "wrote" the tune. I'm pretty sure they just wanted something simple that flowed with the music to get the feel of the song rather than being dull and just reading the lyrics. And since the book says that there isn't even supposed to be a decided tune (everyone makes up their own) I'd say it's not a bad job. Makes it memorable at least!

Not a fan of Jim Dale's version of these books, but I actually like his version of this song, mainly because he actually made it into a song. It also sounds quite Scottish and suits the lyrics and the nature of the sorting hat.

i love this song! and i came to hufflepuff, when i did the long and precise test, and i got hufflepuff on the othertoo. but i don't think bad of slytherin. Not everyslytherin is evil, i mean, look for example at sirius's brother. he ended up going against the dark lord.

thoughts about houses:

Gryffindor is more of the "famous" house, where the "celebrities" are from/go to

Ravenclaw is where the political or logic of the wizarding world usually come from,

Slytherin is where the "nobles" go, and are taught and

Hufflepuff is where the rest end up

I don't completely agree. I think bravery is the most random quality of those given.

If you have a 2 minute conversation with someone you can tell if they are clever, shrewd, or kind and if they're witty, ambitious, or hard-working.

How can you tell if someone is brave or loyal? What do Lavender, Hermione, Oliver Wood, Neville and George have in common? Nothing very evident.

Seems to me that Gryffindor becomes more of the hodge-podge house despite what the other sorting song says :)

@disneytwilightgirl89 I disagree. Hufflepuff is not the "reject" house. It is the house of loyal, hardworking people, which should not be undervalued. I wouldn't say Cedric was in any way not brave, clever or ambitious though, so I find the distinction between the houses a bit artificial. Surely, Hermione is extremely clever? Surely, Dumbledore (most likely Gryffindor) was highly ambitious? I think it's rather sad that there isn't a house that values compassion and emotional intelligence though.
