The latest thing, people are finding you via IM (usually Yahoo), and asking you to take an IQ Quiz to see if you can beat their score...there are numerous sites like this. The terms are usually laid out below in fine print, it signs you up for a mobile "Daily fun facts" text service, and charges your cell phone bill with a $9.95/month charge for the service. To stop this - you must opt out by dialing the telephone number on your cell phone bill, or they will continue to charge you $9.95.month.
i honestly dont understand how its legal for them to do this, ive seen so many respectable website flying the retarded "do u think this is fake, 77% of americans get this wrong" bullshit. of course with 5$ weekly from every1 dumb enough to do it, im sure they can bribe any website they want.
Sorry that happened to you! Have you seen those Anthony Morrison commercials?
talking about profits from home? Well guess what!! That type of site is just what he promotes!! Very unethical!! Also beware of all those penny auction sites!!! False advertising!! Scam business model. 65 to 70 cents per bid to raise the price of an item by 1 cent?!?! I'll put it in layman's terms, " These sites can kiss my fucking ass." There I said it!! I feel better now!! Hope others heed your wise warning! ;)
well I already took it and deleted the text message does anyone know how i can make it stop and do they charge every month because i got the bill today?
If Ur gonna enter ur cell phone number or give out any personal information U should always read the terms and conditions...Obviously Ur I.Q is really low and The guy that thought of this I.Q is High.... Wish i thought of it...Stop fukin complaining and not only can u cancel at anytime if ur dumb ass would read the terms and conditions you can be refunded by the company!!!
@MINICLIPGAMER not to be grammar police but its not you're cause thats short for you are and it would'nt make sence if you said whats you are problem.
@rogman1000 haha so true... there are like a million FREE IQ tests on line i have no clue why somebody would pay to take an IQ test.
Then again mensa is obviously scamming the world's smartest stupid people by taking their money just so they can call themself smart. Now THAT'S a scam!
If you don't have time to read the terms don't enter your information. If they ask for information always find out why before giving it. And i'm not defending the "scammers". I'm defending common sense. Advertising is for one thing to make money. If you click an advertisement of anykind they are going to make money somewhere. Unless you pay attention It'll be off you. You wouldn't click the "you're already a winner" banner. This is the EXACT same thing with different wording.
not to mention it says in the print on the cellphone next to where you enter your phone number (not size 8 font, actuall readable size) you enter your number you agree to be charged up to 9.99 a month. It's less than one inch from where you enter your phone number. so you have to see it when your doing it.
stfu, stop trying to defend these scammers, when i entered my number, I in no way wanted to spend $10. This is a devious site, that preys on victims that don't have time to read every single word.
I actually know about 12 people who work for the company that charges you. Really they have an iron clad user agreement. If anyone gets subscribed, you are a moron that deserves to be charged. Slow down, take your time, READ SOMETHING every now and then. If it were a real IQ test, it wouldn't be online in the first place. !REAL! IQ Tests take up to two weeks, several hours a day. All dependent on where you take them and who offers them.
mhmm.. u think ppl today in this fast paced world really take the time to read the size 8 font.. and I'm quite sure there are some "real iq tests"on the internet.. stop defending these scammers.
These people are not illegal, they are just taking advantage of stupid people. Unethical, yes, but not illegal. And about this fast paced world? Thats the biggest problem. If somebody is too obsessed with instand gratification without worrying about the concequences, i dont see a problem in the world with that person being screwed because of it.
"they are just taking advantage of stupid people".. harsh.. I would not generalize everyone that gets scammed as stupid. it's rude. and they are not "obsessed" with instant gratification... obsessed is not the right word for this scenario..choose your words more carefuly. You don't see a problem with taking advantage of people.. wow..and i wonder why the people in this world suck.
It is impossible to have a real IQ test on the web. Part of the all IQ tests is spatial reasoning and physical problem solving, neither of which can be done X number of miles away from the tester. You can easily have a web quiz test knowledge, but thats just how much you know. IQ is how you figure it out, and how you think in general.
Well it looks like you beat me to it. I just made a video on this recently, but it goes indepth including victims of the scam. This is happening in Australia too.
Lol only idiots who dont read terms and conditions fall for this... And you are an idiot because if you scroll down to the bottom of the page where the pencil tip is pointing... you will see the link... GET YOUR QUIZ RESULTS!!!
The surprising culprits are the phone companies. They shouldn't be -paying- con artists like The IQ Test. That's what creates the problem in the first place.
If the phone companies want to be in what may turn out to be an extraordinarily lucrative business (acting as a payment system for essentially any company that wants to use it), then they should accept the burden of policing their own activities.
Thanks for the information. And hey, you should always be suspicious whenever they ask for information such as email, phone number or just want your cash in general. Excuse for saying this but you sound rather naive. Just let this be a lesson for you in general and regarding internetsites that use commercial ads everywhere and got a flashy look like that are usually rip offs.
It's not a perfect world, obviously, but in a perfect world companies like YouTube would do some kind of basic screening and wouldn't accept money from companies like this.
So the moral of the story is:
1. Don't give out your phone number, and
2. Don't assume that anyone screens advertising.
Unfortunately, there are websites that REQUIRE your phone number as part of their identity certification process.
Legit companies are demanding information that it is unsafe to give out. So how do you give general advice to your parents or your children about what's safe and what's unsafe?
If cell phone companies are going to go ahead and PAY companies like this, then legitimate companies have to come up with a BETTER way of certifying our identity than sending passwords by text message to our cell phones.

Lafontaine22,
Don't blame the victim; blame the perpetrator.
The problem is that all they do is ask for your phone number. At no point do they ask consent to sign you up for a subscription service.
As you know, there are hundreds of thousands of legitimate websites that do exactly the same thing.
And legitimate websites are accepting ADVERTISING from The IQ Quiz scam company. I think I even saw it advertised on YouTube.
ReliableInsider 3 years ago
