  • These techniques are good if the other person is cooperating with you. I like to equate this to Pro Wrestling. Pro Wrestling moves look good because the two wrestlers are in on it to "Sell the Move". In a real situation, people are unpredictable. You can't expect to attack a person who is a foot taller than you the same way a person a foot shorter. Training to defend yourself requires you to think and react on your feet according to the person and situation.

  • yes and what happens when you do this against somebody who actually holds their guard up.

  • I'm so glad my comment is on top with so many people responding. Here is my point; the situation is what dictates your action. A lot of times, teachers only teach you what was taught to them. It is a one style fits all opponent type of solution. Some people are stronger, some are faster, you have to adapt to that person. I also notice that many traditional styles only teach you how to fight and defend against their style. That is a mistake. Update and adapt your fighting techniques.

  • @ktl2828 I hope you've noticed the name.....more than one style.....combinations.....two very different (some might say opposite styles).....oh, well...

  • I hate when somebody says that martial arts techniques look good but in real life they are not useable, or when somebody says boxing like in MMA is much more better in real life situations. These people are primitive and dont understand a thing and I am just getting more mad at them, so please dont be such stupid people...

  • @KingJohnGalba Those people are the people who don't train seriously and base their opinions on Youtube

  • it is in china or in another country cuz most of the video, the students are people from another nationality.

  • You have to realise that kung fu was used in war man to man, sword to sword...So it's the real thing and it takes years to master it and to bulid hard caracter to not freeze in fight...

  • IDIOTS you people are so annoying just like when i listen too real good music led zeppelin, the beatles, queen, ice cube, tupac, BIGGIE you guys just have to include LADY GAGA JUSTIN FUCKING BIEBER REBECCA BLACK. Just like martial arts.....you just have to compare modern reality shit with TRADITIONAL FORMS all the time ACCEPT IT! it's easy to do bad, it's hard to do good. Boxing, MMA everyone can do, but kung fu takes a long time to master to actually use in a real fight UNDERSTAND?????????

  • Yes he is a very active teacher and obviously excited about teaching his art as well as explaining it.

  • el parece ser un gran maestro, sus movimientos son rapidos (apesar de que estan haciendo una demostracion), ¿alguien sabe algo de hika-ken?

  • All these techniques look good, but in a real fight, most of this will be forgotten or not be used. Most people will either freeze up or fight like retarts. Even if the techniques work perfectly, it does not guarantee that the attacker will stop fighting.

  • @ktl2828 You are correct, it's better to do nothing, death is imminent, we will all die sooner or later.

  • @jingang the ktl2828 is not realizing that he is being sneered at by you. That person doesn't realize why an art can live for hundreds of years if it is not applicable. Wu shu in China has been used to defend oneself, and lest we forget, to kill other people. Real power of wushu is scary.

  • @jingang

but how if at the time "our life is worth to fighting for"?

  • @bodo69 he is being sarcastic ¬¬

  • @ktl2828 I disagree. You do them until they become second nature.

  • @ktl2828 the techniques only will be forgotten if u don't train them hard enought...that's why they use the therm "kung fu" in all kind of arts...kung fu means "hard work"...only the lazy ones forget the techniques...the one who REALLY trains can kick anyone's ass...

  • @foxwillianmulder For ktl2828, as well, lots of sparring practice can help make you more comfortable in a fight environment too so that you won't freeze up as bad if not at all.

  • @ktl2828 Or, you train at combat speed diligently, so that the techniques you've learned come out instinctively in a "real fight".

  • @ktl2828 you are sooo right! In real fight, you will eventually feel somthing like " I should have learned boxing"

  • @ktl2828 This is completely true, most people lose their composure during an actual fight, this is why they tell you that the basics are the most important things to learn. You use the basic moves until you have the chance to use something more advanced like what is suggested here. No one expects you to suddenly counter a blow out of nowhere, but if someone has an attack pattern that you can predict and you know a certain punch is coming... then these types of moves can be deadly

  • @ktl2828 this is why you train hard and practice the technique every day all day then it becomes an instincted and your body will strengthen over time. li shu wen fought a real fight the attacker died so most times we martial artist hold back :u

  • @ktl2828 As I was training this particular style, 3 hours daily and that's for years .. sometimes I also dance doing that move with no meaning to.

Apparently in real life fight I had couple of cases, I dont think about the movement at all - it comes alone. So I am still alive and not even harmed. It is not only the movement - it is the practice, the ability of rooting and the self confidence when anger of being attacked comes.

  • @ktl2828 Dude you practice the art to perform good techniques so you don´t freeze or forget it. It´s common sense you won´t learn for shit if you just watch the video, you must live with the art and practice it and you will do it as a normal thing in a fight.

  • @ktl2828 Nonsense. These are principles being shown! Principles showing lines of attack n counter. N coincidentally these moves actually resemble "fighting like retard" - wild swinging, but WITH SKILL N POWER. You get good fast n accurate with this you will catch enemy totally off guard. Master Zhou never told him to stop here. This's just the idea. You then take this n drill it in Sanda n the random variations come out as u gain the SENSES. If dont do this, its not the methods fail, its YOURS.

  • @coachsudan Also have to consider GONGFU (Conditioning). When a true Pigua person who has done the CONDITIONING (iron arm, waist turning speed and power, stepping etc) blocks you its a devastating blow compared to you just watch the video and go try in a fight.

  • @ktl2828 even though i think the way he's showing of pigua here is a bit wierd, especially because of the long range, i can assure you that pigua and baji are excellent for as you put it "real fights". Although to practice fighting you need to well... fight. Both baji and pigua, when taught as close range fighting systems, and you practice adrenal stress, scenarios, is definitely useful and not something you forget in a altercation. Not sure this short clip is a good representation though.

  • Ok so you put the attackers hand on your crotch them slap him in the face. Sounds like a bad date rather than a fight.

  • this guy is even betther than shi dejian IMO !! A true master indeed. I hope i can be his apprentice T_T

  • I liked it. Good responses too.

  • hui da - step back punch?

shen da - step forward punch?

How bad is my Chinese? I myself claim my Chinese skills are nonexistent. :)

  • Thanks 4 sharing. Real stuff - fast guy!

  • Is he saying you have to do all of that for one punch, or in case you end up in that stance anyway and he throws a punch? There's a lot of nay sayers about traditional Chinese martial arts that have a lot of emphasis on form.

  • @brucenatelee

Principles are more emphasized than patterns of motion. You can punch where it's open, but if it's not open, make it so. :)

  • im diggin the outfit :]

  • this guy knows what he is talking about, not only does he do the form perfectly, but ha also adapts and explain the different setting of each movement.. a sign of a true master. great!

  • @kickmasta Teachin 1 guy is nothing.

Teach a class, then a school, then a system.

    Then your a master.

  • @veothrax that is true. but the magnitude does not affect the basic structure of teaching. and that in my opinion is," to be able to teach one must understand what you are trying to learn to others" and one can clearly see the applyable efficiency in this sifu's techniques. wish you a continous nice day and thank you for your reply :-).

  • @veothrax hhaha... a very quantitative approach.... >.<

  • @veothrax @_@ What! what about other masters who only see goodness in one student c: teaching 1 guy is good for passing on to a disciple 8D

  • This Master is the most practical Baji Quan master I've ever seen!!!... I think this is like Tau Si to put here in youtube HeeHee. But then again we wont get to enjoy it ^^

  • this is soooooo cool

  • СУПЕР!!!! ЭТО РЕАЛЬНОЕ БОЕВОЕ ИССКУСТВО!!!!! КЛАСС!!!!

  • Da!

  • And.... What if the guy attacks with his left fist instead of his right one?

  • Than you do something else

  • i LOVE this kind of question- as well as the answer :)

  • My sifu would say throw the punch, and listen for the thud on the floor.

  • No no no. well kinda what Jingang said, but to be more precise: It doesn't matter which hand attacks. You will block and counter anyway - this is the case for nearly all baji techniques.

  • @jingang you can tell that you're a true master. the discipline & patience you display when dealing with these silly comments proves it.

  • @Uberboy07 what's wrong with you? jingang doesn't claim he is a master...

  • @jingang Actually, the same move will still apply, probably just hitting a different part of the opponent's head.

  • @jingang Actually, the same move will still apply. It'll just hit a different part of the opponent's head

  • You can do the same move and end with an arm lock behind him. Free your mind use common sense. Don't be tex book about what a master teach or it's all useless.

  • Well if he attacks with his other hand, you are left open. What he explained at the last part, about being on the outside (out of his range @ 1:46), if he uses his other arm, you'll be in a closed stance instead of open stance, so if you block it, you will be within his range, unlike the right hand.

  • Oh... I was talking about the 1st move he showed. But the 2nd and 3rd move you have to switch stance... Bah! I'm not bothered. If your that fast, may as well just beat him to the punch LOL. His just showing other methods just in case you don't like 1st one.

  • You can tell the dude in the red shirt is one of his new students. He probably had to resort to the most basic applications for that reason. But yes you are right "free your mind, and your ass will follow" lol

  • @Antilli

You do the same thing... He's swatting away + trapping an incoming attack.. XD

I'd think that no matter where the fist would come from, he'd be able to deflect it..

You know what? Why not just try it out yourself ;p

    (CAREFULLY, of course ;p)

  • @Antilli actually u do the same thing XD the left is worst since they cant block :b

  • @Antilli For some applications this can present a problem, but the defense he is using does not require one side or the other. Technically, it is easier to perform on the other side. Regardless, the reason he uses the sweeping arm block is because it can be used against pretty much any strike. If his opponent chose to do something abstract/not-applicable to the blocks shown, it would be slower or overly complicated, and thus easier to avoid. That is why it is shown with a straight punch.

  • Wow nice! Hope to see more of this. Great!

  • I wouldn't say this is a "deception". Modern boxing has the shoulder roll defense against punches, and it looks almost identical. So, it's no rocket science to think that this is also a defense move to avoid a kick or long punch, turning the leg to avoid a leg break by stompkicking on it. Makes it even more a valid move.

  • krr65,

I agree the "shoulder roll" works, and apart from this,

the master here demo only little skill ==leaving an open part of the body to attract opponent's attention and temptation to strike.

"turning the leg to avoid leg-break" is also agreeable to me, and this is a very few chance we can view the master's demon over his skill

of blocking opponent. Not just turning, you follow me!!I know this could be difficult to understand, but try.

  • Yes!!! thx !! This is real martial arts~~~

Its not only fooling the enemy but this master

is real top sifu as I observed that he blocks

enemy's attacking limbs - palm block, and even

his footwork- foot block the enemy's

stance too~~~ He tells hitting at points that no many master say nowadays.

Anyone who can learn from him is a fortune!!!!

I admire the one demonstrating with him~~~

  • Thank you for you compliments, Master Zhou is truly a great teacher.

  • Very good

I like how the traditional systems always have these traps to fool the enemy

  • love that last elbow punch at the very end - that's the true spirit :)

  • very good

  • awesome!

  • awesome 5 stars!

  • interesting thanks

    from Italy

  • esta muy bien explicado ,continue colocando videos de su estilo por favor

  • sweeeet! so that was both pigua and baiji? Which style is it with the arms always circling?

  • Baji quan has a baji-pigua form (pigua power combined with baji power form). The techniques shown here are taken from That combined form.

  • Now that...would hurt, since the opponent wouldn't be really expecting it.

  • good to see you guys :)

  • What about your videos?

  • Nice stuff ! Thanks for the effort ...

  • love it!
