"Lauda was blipping the throttle" through the Carousel....like YOU know how to drive it in THOSE cars in THOSE days. OH SURE. Get real, man. These were THE best of the best. Period.
cars that were that fast and were essentially deathtraps com[pared to F1 cars today- i'm amazed the FIA even allowed the drivers to race around such a dangerous, extremely long track.
most of these F1 cars had at least 480-520 hp, and only weighed about 1200 lbs, Yes, these cars and the cars that raced at the 1976 German GP (which was the last F1 race ever at Nordschleife, but not the Nurburgring) are certainly the fastest racing cars ever to offically race around Nordschleife, even to this day. These cars are quite a lot faster than a Porsche 956. Cars in 1975 that developed around 500 hp, 0-60 in about 3.5 seconds and they could reach speeds of at least 215 mph
The Ford Cosworth DFV-V8's were probably only making about 450 hp in 1975, although the Ferrrari V-12 was closer to 500 if not 520. Ford Cosworths were up to 480 by the end of the decade and a tick over 500 by the early 80's before the swtich to the 520 hp DFY. They started out at about 408 hp in 1967 when they were used in the Lotus 49.
The downside to the Ferrari flat 12 was the engine weighed more and they had to carry extra fuel on board as it used more. The Brabham BT-44's were actually faster then the Ferrari's on the high speed courses in 1974. Had they been developed throughout 1975 and later they might have won a championship or two. Instead they stopped work to improve them in early 1975 and started on the BT-45 Alfa cars that would debut in 1976.
Yes... It is A litle difrent circuit than it was in Stefan Bellof day ... It is 2 km/h longer... the pit stright is the same in today race... The Record of 22.8 km/h version is 6.58 by N.Lauda just day before this race... This is still The fastet cars there ever race in Nordschleife . If they there racing at the same version there great Stefan Bellof took 6.11 , it would be about 5.57- 6.00

Well Stuck also had great experience of the track and I think his driving style generally suited the Ring.

Stuck was so smooth on the throttle while going through the carousel. Lauda was blipping the throttle when he went through there in part 1.

I wonder if the two fans standing there just after the carousel are still alive. Not sure why I thought of that lol.

For those of us ancient enough to remember the passenger cars of the time,
they seem like death traps compared to the cars of today, life has become oh so safe and secure and far less exciting.

Well they did have big ol tyres on the back didn't they :O
and they sounded so good!
Not like the 18,000 rpm's of today.
F1 cars of today with all the downforce stripped off are much faster in top speed.

i think the ferraris had a flat-12 engine- yeah it probably had 500+ hp or something like that. the ferraris back then were the fastest, no doubt
