@cphthomsen - that would be a bit of hyperbole Look at it again, it's the defender's trailing leg which hooks the attacker. Hardly worthy of a send-off, and actually a fair tackle. As for the budding Cristiano Ronaldo writhing on the ground - what a dink.
I'd not have sent this player off. "studs up"? - his foot was low, he did catch the player somewhere on the ankle, but "studs up"? Naahhhh. Not even a caution on my field. But I had the benefit of replay a dozen times or so before weighing in - - the ref had a few seconds.
@daveinindy So you would have to kill somebody on your field to get sent off?? According to the rules set by Fifa this is a clear red card. No matter of he got the ball or not, he showed no regards for the opponents safety!
Sorry dude, but that tackle was definitely not clean. I can't tell from the video, but if the white player's studs connected with the black player's leg, then it was a good red card. If they did not, then it should have been a foul and talking to (possibly a yellow if the game needed it.) The fact that the black player faked an injury should have earned him a caution, but has nothing to do with whether or not the red was justified.
Definitely. Based on the video, it doesn't look as if the tackler made contact with the ball (which is irrelevant if contact with the player's made.) It looks like cleats go right into the player's leg. If cleats were up, as it looks like they might've been, it's a clear-cut sending off. Referee's judgment as to reckless or excessive force for a yellow or red. Probably a caution to the player who was tackled for unsporting behavior and one to the player who spiked the ball for dissent.

crappy ref

Studs up. Win the ball or not, this is a send off. The referee is well positioned to see this play.
It doesn't even matter whether he made contact with the opponent. It is _still_ a send off.

i probably woud have given a red card too. he came in studs up above the ball, so whether or not he won the ball is irrelovent
