I really do not see what the big deal is here.

I've seen a couple of references to Conflict of Interest. How? Winder wasn't reporting on classified internal workings of the city, he didn't whistleblow anything for personal gain, he didn't make any money for himself. Using a pen name to write news fluff is not a crime. I use a pen name when I write public stories for a several major websites. This is a NON issue. It's a cute story. It's fluff. They had fun with it. No crime. I'd vote for him cuz of his problem solving skills, really.

@SocialDissimulation If you have a reason why you feel this is conflict of interest, please debate the issue intelligently. Your response is juvenile. I'm a reasonable person willing to debate an issue, but I won't be involved in a discussion where the most profound response is akin to, "Because! That's why!" I'm seriously asking why people think this was conflict of interest. Give me a valid reason why this was unethical or a crime.

@SocialDissimulation Conflict of interest, how? It's not like he was being paid to report on classified information or something. He wrote fluff/human interest stories, for free, for the local paper (they did not know he was really the mayor). I am a professional freelance writer, so I know it probably took him 15 minutes out of an entire week to throw together an HR piece. He did it on his own time, and used a pen name. I use a pen name. I really do not see what the big deal is here.

I live in WVC, Utah. XD Lawls! I'd have to agree with the commenter you read, though. Until this came out, I'd forgotten we had our own major. XD SLC tends to engulf us. SLC is the "husband" and all the outlaying cities are the "sister wives", so to speak. ;P
