  • nce cured is it too hard to drive a tack in? I would like to create plastic lasts for making shoes on. They have to be hard but soft enough to secure a tack in order to stretch the leather.

  • @efzt This plastic is too hard to stick a tack into it. The PT flex series or the 75 series rubber products might work better for that.

  • It looks like a black scrambled egg in the thumbnail

  • hi thanks for quick reply i forgot to ask i am trying to cast small parts similar to fantasy miniatures is the plasil 71-20 suitable or do you recommend something else.

  • @jamieoliver1976 I would use either 71-20 or 73-15. 73-15 is little softer but it is clear.

  • what material is your mold made of?, do you sell it? and do you ship to uk?

  • @jamieoliver1976 It is 71-20 Plasil. Yes, we sell it and yes we ship to the UK.

  • @brickintheyard If you can mold it, it can probably be cast in resin. We have a lot of customers making custom after market parts for cars.

  • I have a fiberglass console for my truck that I made, and I wanted to make some hinged flip up covers for the stereo and some switches. I took apart an old computer that had spring loaded flip up covers for USB ports that I wanted to mold and reproduce. I am assuming these materials will work? Excellent if they will!

  • Very cool!

  • Question, is it a special ink used to give color to the plastic or can there be used any kind of paint?

  • @coolbionicle The best way to color this and other Urethanes is with a compatible pigment like Polycolor. Some paints contain contaminates that will either empede the cure of the resin or they will cause it to foam.

  • Well at least this is not "Made in China"

  • How hard does it get.

  • @cooldog60 This resin cures to a 70D which is about as hard as a light switch cover.

  • If I don't add any dye, you said it cures in an amber color. Do you know of any resin that cures completely clear?

  • @ebb0246 Our Poly Optic 1411 is water clear, just alot more expensive!

  • @brickintheyard i got a question about the Poly Optic 1411, is it HIGHLY toxic? cause i know the stuff smooth-on sells thats totally clear sure is, you need a respirator and all kinds of stuff to use it..

  • @Toyman1982 1411 is an aliphatic resin. It is formulated for industrial use so good ventilation is imperative. Check out the msds on our webstore to read more on it.

  • @brickintheyard Ok, thanks for the info.. im trying to find something i can thin down and spray (or brush) onto a paint job to keep it from flaking/scratching off.

  • I BOUGHT SOME 1411 AND IT SEEMS TO TAKE A LONG TIME TO HARDEN..IT SAYS 7 HOUR DEMOLD TIME .I LEFT IT OVERNIGHT AND IT STILL VERY FLEXABLE AND I COULD STICK MY NAIL INTO IT....ANY RECOMMENDATIONS WOULD BE APPRICIATED.

  • @JohnnyDesaint Sounds like it was mixed off ratio with a bit too much part B. When mixing resin in small amounts use a scale and the weight ratio of 90B to 100A. Also make sure you are using clean, accuratly marked measuring cups. Call us if you have additiona questions.

  • @brickintheyard i found out the problem....the room wasnt room temp.i put a heatlamp on the work and a heater in theroom and i made a test sample it it hardened in about an hour.now i need to work on getting rid of the champagne bubbles.

  • Can you stretch it while it's in the flexible stage? Or is it just bendy?

  • @spinycrayfish Mainly just bendy. I suppose you could stretch it right after it gels.

  • @meagles1 Not sure. I haven't ever tried that.

  • Is there a certain type of liquid plastic resin that I would need in order to make a cup? I don't want it to be toxic. Great video!

  • @FLUFFYRAPTOR1 I don't think any of our resins would be food safe.

  • I'm trying to build a small robot and was wondering if this would be hard enough to be useful as legs. If not, any recommendations? Awesome stuff and thanks!

  • @unambitious Yes, Easy Flo series is a tough impact resistant plastic once cured.

  • could you make clear balls ?

  • Yes.

  • @brickintheyard so i could make my own contact juggling balls with clear resing like this? thats grat to know

  • Yes, but keep in mind EZ Flo Clear is more translucent in thick sections than a true clear material like PolyOptic 1411. If you need Optic or water clarity use 1411.

  • hey, i am just wondering, if i make my mould out of wood and vacume form it, then add the hardner and clear casting resin would that work?

  • Not sure. Run a small test to find out.

  • Why is pigment always added to part B and not A?

  • Part A is more sensitive to moisture contamination. As a result, any additives are best added to part B to prevent any possibility of contamination.

  • Wow awesome. But I wonder, does the object that you want to make a mold of has to be very solid? I have home decorating pieces that I'd like to replicate and which are not very hard, I'm afraid a rubber mold won't hold on it to very securely and the piece will tear when the rubber has cured and ready to be peeled off.

  • Hmmm. Sounds like a test might be in order.

  • Is there a way of adding two pigments without mixing fully, to get a marble effect?

Also what pigment would you recommend for a wood effect casting?

    Thanks

    PS excellent vids

  • Use EZ Flo + Brown PC to get a basic wood color.

Yes, you can swirl in other colors to get a marble effect but it takes some practice.

  • Is there a way to make a translucent piece? Like a translucent red or blue?

  • Yes. Just add small ammounts of either red or blue PolyColor.

  • would putting the resin in the fridge keep this from happening too? in the humid months i mean.. cause you know how it is living in texas, right now its like 110..i got the AC up full blast and its still 80 in the casting room :P

  • Not a bad idea... just keep it away from the lunch meat.

  • great. thanks.

  • AMAZING!

  • is there a metallic dye you could add into part A instead of spray painting?

  • See our video about resin casting tips. You may also brush in metalic powders to get a metalic effects.
