One of the greatest events in US history was when General Lee was allowed to walk free after Appomattox . That show Grant had great character. Also Robert E. Lee who didn't allow guerilla operations that would of dragged the war on a whole lot longer was also a man of great character. Our nation was blessed to have both of them. It was the politicians that started the war. They made the best of a ruff situation.
@billybill56 Yes, and Grant and all yankees respected Lee and he respected them, Lee was a great gentleman, a great strategist, and a great general. He respected everyone no matter what race, color, or side you fought for. Lee's personal black cook, Rev. William Mack Lee, enjoyed serving Lee and all the other generals and knew them like friends all through the war.
@danabellwyatt Most of those trolling Confederate videos know better, but there are a few who're full of seething hatred for Southerners, and obviously aren't mentally mature enough. Basically, jackasses starving for attention.
I heard the story about Grant being a drunk. A woman once complained of this to Lincoln. Allegedly he replied that if she knew the brand of whiskey, he would order a crate for every Union general. Grant won battles. No idea if it is a true story.

@romanbrough That story is true it is in one of Lincoln's letters and is documented. Kinda Funny that Lee was such a cunt he got his ass kicked by Grant and Sherman... a couple of drunks!

This was arranged as part of an orchestral suite , "The Confederacy", by Richard Bales, who was a conductor associated with the Library of Congress. He wrote a companion piece for this, "The Union." I remember these records when I was a boy; they were my father's favorites.
I recall my mother and father listening to an album called the Songs of the Confederacy when I was very young. Hearing this march brings back that memory. It was always amazing to me how a war that ended so long ago still divided the north and the south for many many years. I also recall Dixie was one of the songs sung in school.
Lee and Grant were both men who didn't waste much time re fighting the Civil War.

I wish people would become more educated and learned how to communicate without cursing.
