I have seen some of your comments about this C-2 being cheap, well it's not a cheap version of our C-17's at all, how do i know this? I am working as an engineer for a company providing systems and naceles for the CF6-80's for both the C-5M's and the C-2's, and the Japanese Military's specs are as high as ours. Why they don't need our C-5M's and C-17's is to ones' guess; and to assure you this is surely a great plane. After this one, we are on to Embraer's KC-390. Looking fwd to all the fun!

@psupccea well actually the Japanese C-1 was made in 1970 and the American C-17a was from 1991 so really if you're going to say things like that, it's the Americans who have a cheap copy. Right?

Beautiful bird. I took a ride on a C-1 back in my old Navy days. I was a bit apprehensive at first because I thought a JASDF C-1 was the same as a USN C-1, with was an old avgas driven cargo plane. It was an awesome ride. The JASDF folks were practicing short landings and fast turnarounds. They kicked me out the door, dropped five pallets and were back in the air before I got the dust brushed off the seat of my pants.

it's usual in first flights to fly with the gear down; if anything else goes wrong you don't want to wrestle the gear down - or you don't want your gear to fail in your first flight, especially in front of press/cameras, etc.
