@AntipodeanAl Until someone has to paddle into a potentially dangerous situation to rescue his body. In kayaking when you put yourself in danger, you put everyone in danger.
Hi, I'm new to kayaking, but from watching some vids of sea-kayaking, I get the impression that it's kinda important to keep paddling even in waves and streams and keep an even pace. Is that correct?
the fact hes not wearing a helmet makes him more of a hero. i wear a helmet because im shit scared of rocks, this guy is clearly a madman for not being scared.
People ride bikes without helmets. People skate without helmets. Do you talk on the cell phone while driving? Do you speed or drink and drive? People do what they want to do. All you can do is tell your kids as good parents they should wear a helmet. Kinda like when your parents told you to wear a condom...Didn't work then though did it? It's called human nature and free will. Just be a good guiding parent and don't let them get on the internet. Life's full of risks learning and teaching.
i was considering getting a kit from the redfish kayak company, i was just curious is it possible to build these outdoors, i do not know if i can find the room inside to build a sea kayak
also has any one heard of this redfish kayak company and if so how is the quality of their kits and boats
i'm pretty impressed by how fast you turn... normaly it takes a year to turn a sea kayak... but you go fast ! but if you "playboat" a lot... you might considder to buy a playboat (:
they're called sea kayaks cause they're meant to be paddled in the sea. and dude change the name to white water sea kayaking or something instead of playboating in a sea kayak
White water kayaking is great fun but when the best places to playboat are out in the middle of no-where in open water (and they are) sea kayaks are the way to go.
Looks like fun, Nick. I should be able to play a little like that when I hit the forks, where the North and South Sask. Rivers meet. The Petrel handles well under those conditions. I am wondering how the Night Heron would do.
For those complaining about lack of a helmet: The water is deep, with the shallowest rock about 3 feet down. With some effort I may be able to reach my head down to it. I suppose there are other ways a helmet may be useful, but I don't wear a helmet crossing the street and it isn't much more necessary at this location. I wear a helmet in other situations, here its optional.
Im sorry but a river is ever changing. How do you know rocks havnt been moved downstream by the flow and that there is actually a big rock right under you?
Your comparison between crossing the road and paddling is farcical. When crossing the road you can see the danger. Upsidedown underwater with no vision is a completely more dangerous situation.
Your statement about helmets being optional is incredibly irresponsible. For the safety of other paddlers I hope ypu dont lead any groups.
@guillemot12 Anything can happen on moving water, what if you go swimming and get knocked out accidently by a another paddler attempting to rescue you. Put a helmet on!!!!
@onlywhenpissed Haha, no but I have seen some bad things happen to some good boating friends of mine while on the river. Just want all my fellow boaters to be safe out there.
so play boating? in what way? in that really mysterious way of paddeling against the current and surfing a little...i aggree with 2001 below..loops or evan a roll would of been nice

I think for sea-kayaking the real opportunities are the tidal races. But to each his own.
