Brandon did a great job. He looked a little too young, but he was great. With some more research on Superman's personality, he could be perfect. I liked the suit. I still would have liked to have seen the yellow shield on the cape. I like the 3D effect of his chest shield, but it should have been bigger and a little closer to the original. The symbol is just too iconic to change.
Kevin Spacey as ALWAYS is a fantastic actor. He was my favourite in the film and in every other films especially American beauty. Thanks to him i admire Lex Luthor now. Im not much of a comic guy, but superman was my first superhero in my childhood and will continue to be that way forever. But Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor was frikin awsome, he was funny, brilliant, and twisted all at the same time. Anyways, Brandon Routh did VERYYY well and deserves to have another shot. Great film.

Superman Returns sucked quite badly, but that was not the fault of Brandon Routh or even Kevin Spacey. It was because of 1) a terrible script and 2) a lack of action sequences. Bring back Routh and Spacey!
By the way, Lex Luther was the main villain only in Superman 1 and Returns. In 2 it was Zod and companions, in 3 it was a computer and in 4 it was Nuclear Man.

LOL, you are talking plot holes in a comic book movie.. The Dark Knight has about 20 of them.. So does Iron Man and the original Superman. Lex has always been a greedy SOB with world domination schemes, Bosworth was miscast as Lois but Rough nailed Superman and i loved the heart of the film.. Superman Returns is easily a top 10 comic movie all time.

He played Reeve playing Supes, not Superman. This needs a reboot, with a GREAT origin story and a new take on Krypton. A Lex Luthor with unlimited resources that's not a clown that can truly challenge the alien interloper.
The way to save the franchise is to say that Lois' bastard child turns out to be a Bizarro clone implanted by Brainiac or Luthor or Gus Gorman and that grows up imperfect in like 6 months only to battle Superman who shall be so relieved that that conceptual nightmare was solved in such a cool way.
* quit trying to overcomplicate EVERY story line! It seems like most movies are this way anymore.
* have a good, succinct ending or a leading ending. EG- at the end of this movie Lois Lane should have pulled Superman out of the ocean, and he should have just looked in the camera and said,"I'll get you Lex Luthor!" then it should have went to credits.

all in all in was a good film, brandon routh did a great job, and the flying scenes were phenomanal. But it was a little campy, and i wished they didnt change the suit from red to like a maroon color. But i was looking forward to a new one, but now they are rebooting the series. They are probably going to mess up the soundtrack and make the story darker,thats dumb. Just like with spiderman, i feel like you should just finish what you started, there alot of good stories out there in the comics
This film would have been great as a setup for two more films, but because everyone wants it to stand on its own as an action flick, it will end up too boring for most people. If you view it as a stepping stone for sequels, then I think it works great. Problem is, nobody were willing to give Singer the chance to make sequels.
Either way, now Zack Snyder, with Chris Nolan behind him, are doing a remake that will skip the origin entirely and go straight for the action. That should please people.
This film would've been a five-star rating if it had more action sequences. Superman Returns had the potential to be great but somehow it favors more towards drama than on action so that's a big letdown for me.
viva superman! it's so fun seeing them laugh when they're at a super serious scene, that's what i like about behind the scenes of a movie, actually look at how they react behind the characters mask ;3 and brandon routh is pretty good looking. I think they got a great actor to play superman and the movie was alright. But it would of been nice if they actually gave superman a fight scene during that entire movie.
One thing is seriously did like was that they didn't make the Kryptonite make him fall over in pain. Radiation impacts people differently, but unless it was so high it could melt you, most likely you wouldn't even know you were exposed until it was too late. I like how they did that with the Kryptonite.. Much more believable in my opinion.
@H0rcrux I also HATE the suit. Not agasint mdernizing superhero suits. Like Spidermans, they darkend the colors and made it look supre dope. But Superman's in this sucked. Custom belt buckle with "S" Inside. the tiny "s" all over the spandex/peather meshed suit. I guess they forgot the most important part about the suit. HIS EARTH MOM MAKES IT FROM THE MATERIALS HE WAS WRAPPING IN FROM KYRPTON. Pathetic. -_- I swear they dont think sometimes....

The rest are about as real as news anchors reading off teleprompters. Why can't they just can all the fake, ultra-glowing praise? I sense that most people, if not everyone, knows they're all blowing a lot of hot air as they gush about how SPLENDIFEROUS working on the movie was or how (USE GUSHING ADJECTIVE HERE) their "co-workers" are.
@mjg956..if u would have paid attention while watching the movie then u would have noticed that they explained why superman left lois and not only did he leave lois he also left earth and the reason he left was because scientist had thought they had found part of krypton so being as it was his home planet superman went to go see for himself if krypton was still there or at least if part of it was but he found out that it wasnt so he returned back to earth

This movie was more about the action, it had a moer emotional grounding and sence of realism as if Superman had been away for a few years. I liked how Singer played true to Donners vision. I thought Brandon Routh did a great job as Superman and Clark, was big shoes to fill. I really think he could come into his own if he had another shot as the Man of steel.
Brian Singer IS an extraordinary director. After watching the whole featurette on the DVD, there's no doubt he respects and LOVES Superman. If every director took it so seriously, it'd be awesome.

For one it's supposed to be a later date and everyone seems to be 10 years younger that was the first wrong. The casting was horrible I mean having Dr. Evil from the Dr Pussy spoof play the part of Lex Luther was a joke. The part where Superman could hardly stop a plane where Lois was tossed around like a ping pong ball and not even injured was dumb.

The reason Superman Returns failed. There were no...There was nothing there. Not the corny-ness and Clumsy-ness of Clark Kent. Not the action we seen in "Superman II" or "Superman IV". None of the orginal aspects that made us love superman. Obviouslt thanks to Smallville Season 9. Zod is now a big thing with Superman. There best-bet would be to re-boot WITH Brandon Routh. and have the three bad guys from "Superman II" Which were "Zod", "Ursela" and "Non". My opinion anyway.

LOL, you are talking plot holes in a comic book movie.. The Dark Knight has about 20 of them.. So does Iron Man and the original Superman. Lex has always been a greedy SOB with world domination schemes, Bosworth was miscast as Lois but Rough nailed Superman and i loved the heart of the film.. Superman Returns is easily a top 10 comic movie all time.

all in all in was a good film, brandon routh did a great job, and the flying scenes were phenomanal. But it was a little campy, and i wished they didnt change the suit from red to like a maroon color. But i was looking forward to a new one, but now they are rebooting the series. They are probably going to mess up the soundtrack and make the story darker,thats dumb. Just like with spiderman, i feel like you should just finish what you started, there alot of good stories out there in the comics

This film would have been great as a setup for two more films, but because everyone wants it to stand on its own as an action flick, it will end up too boring for most people. If you view it as a stepping stone for sequels, then I think it works great. Problem is, nobody were willing to give Singer the chance to make sequels.
Either way, now Zack Snyder, with Chris Nolan behind him, are doing a remake that will skip the origin entirely and go straight for the action. That should please people.

One thing is seriously did like was that they didn't make the Kryptonite make him fall over in pain. Radiation impacts people differently, but unless it was so high it could melt you, most likely you wouldn't even know you were exposed until it was too late. I like how they did that with the Kryptonite.. Much more believable in my opinion.

@H0rcrux I also HATE the suit. Not agasint mdernizing superhero suits. Like Spidermans, they darkend the colors and made it look supre dope. But Superman's in this sucked. Custom belt buckle with "S" Inside. the tiny "s" all over the spandex/peather meshed suit. I guess they forgot the most important part about the suit. HIS EARTH MOM MAKES IT FROM THE MATERIALS HE WAS WRAPPING IN FROM KYRPTON. Pathetic. -_- I swear they dont think sometimes....

I liked it overall minus the lame belt buckle and the tiny "s" all over the suit. I hope they make a dope one for Superman: "Man Of Steel" film.

@SecretDimension I can't stand all the pseudo-documentary features on DVDs. It's rare, extremely rare, to hear the people involved actually speaking the truth. The rest are about as real as news anchors reading off teleprompters. Why can't they just can all the fake, ultra-glowing praise? I sense that most people, if not everyone, knows they're all blowing a lot of hot air as they gush about how SPLENDIFEROUS working on the movie was or how (USE GUSHING ADJECTIVE HERE) their "co-workers" are.

This movie was more about the action, it had a moer emotional grounding and sence of realism as if Superman had been away for a few years. I liked how Singer played true to Donners vision. I thought Brandon Routh did a great job as Superman and Clark, was big shoes to fill. I really think he could come into his own if he had another shot as the Man of steel.

For one it's supposed to be a later date and everyone seems to be 10 years younger that was the first wrong. The casting was horrible I mean having Dr. Evil from the Dr Pussy spoof play the part of Lex Luther was a joke. The part where Superman could hardly stop a plane where Lois was tossed around like a ping pong ball and not even injured was dumb.
Let's just say Superman Returns was officially the biggest box office waste ever!!.....

The reason Superman Returns failed. There were no...There was nothing there. Not the corny-ness and Clumsy-ness of Clark Kent. Not the action we seen in "Superman II" or "Superman IV". None of the orginal aspects that made us love superman. Obviouslt thanks to Smallville Season 9. Zod is now a big thing with Superman. There best-bet would be to re-boot WITH Brandon Routh. and have the three bad guys from "Superman II" Which were "Zod", "Ursela" and "Non". My opinion anyway.
