it was choreographed for the Houston ballet by Paul. He choreographed on his own dancers and then set it on Houston's dancers. Houston ballet premiered the work, then the Taylor company performed it a few months afterwards. Paul doesn't choreograph on other dancers. See his autobiography Private Domain, re: 'Airs' first performed by ABT. Likewise, Black Tuesday, first performed by ABT, but made on Paul's dancers in January of 2001 etc...
@margarinefly55 It was originally done on Houston Ballet in 1991, after which Paul Taylor's company took it into it's own rep. You can read about it on Paul Taylor's website.
Thank you so much for sharing that about Maxene Andrews. So sweet. I LOVE this piece (and everything else I've ever seen of Paul Taylor's choreography); no wonder it's so popular (though I've only seen Taylor's company perform it--brilliant!)
This is BRILLIANT work by Paul Taylor! Maxene Andrews was able to see several incarnations of the ballet performed by various companies. Her joy was beyond description, each time she saw it, and unti her death in 1995 she went around the country attending each performance she was invited to share. The first performance was with the Houston Ballet Company at Kennedy Center in D.C. Unforgetable!!!

@birdeex3 Interesting, I learn something new every day. But, alas, I still don't like it when ballet dancers do it.
