When you consider that the estimated population of Fresno is 500,000 and there are 16,000+ gang members and at least 500 gangs, that is a considerably higher average (percentage) than any city in California. From what I've heard, Los Angeles has an estimated 1,500 gangs or perhaps less.

@Goosebumbsfan I live out here in Avenal, an hour or so away from Fresno, but I'm gonna go to school in Fresno. It's a pretty nice city. Definitely not perfect, but it's big enough to have decent commercial services and it doesn't have horrible crime rates. It's pretty cool right? Whenever, I've driven through Fresno, it seems apparent that the city does not invest in the most rudimentary infrastructure. Do the authorities in Fresno even know what landscaping is? LOL!
@chetoos008 : When I've driven up the 99 on my way to Sacramento, I've seen horrendous looking craters off to the side of the freeway with overgrown patchy grass and weeds. Lol! At least when driving along the 99 freeway or the 178, anyone can see that landscaping is a priority in Bakersfield, and the shrubbery and grass alongside the freeway is well taken care of. Bakersfield has a smaller downtown than does Fresno; however, downtown Bakersfield is a lot more renovated and better maintained.
@chetoos008 : In addition to being better maintained, downtown Bakersfield is not overrun by idiotic gangs. Of course you do get troublemakers and gang bangers causing trouble every now and then, but they usually gravitate toward certain clubs, which I definitely don't care for. Overall; however, they practically aren't visible. As is the case with most normal cities, the gang problem is basically relegated to certain parts of town, in particular the East and South East side.

I miss old Fresno. I grew up in the eastern part of Fresno. A twenty minute walk from downtown. I grew up with White, Mexican, Armenian, Black and Oriental. No gang mentality back then. Just all friends. It wasn't perfect, but we were not territorial. Most fights were one on one. No guns, maybe a knife. LOL! That was between 1960-72. Thanks for the video. The Fresno skyline brings back great memories.

When you consider that the estimated population of Fresno is 500,000 and there are 16,000+ gang members and at least 500 gangs, that is a considerably higher average (percentage) than any city in California. From what I've heard, Los Angeles has an estimated 1,500 gangs or perhaps less.

Definitely not perfect, but it's big enough to have decent commercial services and it doesn't have horrible crime rates. It's pretty cool right? @chetoos008 : When I've driven up the 99 on my way to Sacramento, I've seen horrendous looking craters off to the side of the freeway with overgrown patchy grass and weeds. Lol! At least when driving along the 99 freeway or the 178, anyone can see that landscaping is a priority in Bakersfield, and the shrubbery and grass alongside the freeway is well taken care of. Bakersfield has a smaller downtown than does Fresno; however, downtown Bakersfield is a lot more renovated and better maintained.

@chetoos008 : In addition to being better maintained, downtown Bakersfield is not overrun by idiotic gangs. Of course you do get troublemakers and gang bangers causing trouble every now and then, but they usually gravitate toward certain clubs, which I definitely don't care for. Overall; however, they practically aren't visible. As is the case with most normal cities, the gang problem is basically relegated to certain parts of town, in particular the East and South East side.

I miss old Fresno. I grew up in the eastern part of Fresno. A twenty minute walk from downtown. I grew up with White, Mexican, Armenian, Black and Oriental. No gang mentality back then. Just all friends. It wasn't perfect, but we were not territorial. Most fights were one on one. No guns, maybe a knife. LOL! That was between 1960-72. Thanks for the video. The Fresno skyline brings back great memories.
