Sweet car, how do you like the VF40? I'm thinking of going to the VF52 from the 09 WRX in my 08. Also have Megan Racing Coilovers coming in this week, Perrin DP and Magnaflow Dual exit exhaust.
Sweet, I have a stock 2008 2.5i (no turbo unfortunately). I really like the sound of this car's exhaust! Any recommendations to modify my stock exhaust to sound similar to this car's exhaust? Suggestions are greatly appreciated! I love the noise! :)
all after market exhaust pipes sound great on subaru's. you probably want something like the apexi N1 cat-back. i had one and you could here me for miles. i now have a greddy evo2 on my car. sounds great but not that loud. i like it cuz i do a lot of late night winter drifting and don't want to wake the whole neighborhood.
Dreamevil2009, you are an absolute idiot. If you buy an 08 and plan on modding it, then it doesnt matter if the 09 comes faster stock than the 08 did. thats like saying an 04 sti is slower than an 05 sti with the identical tune and mods. Like its pointless to argue which year is faster in STOCK form.. who cares?
08 and 09 (wrx not wrx sti) have different turbos.... 09's have STI turbos so its going to have more potential. also 08's have 227 hp vs the 09's 263hp.... so if you were to bolt on the same cold air intake you would get more power out of a 09....
you have to spend more money to get more horsepower/torque out of a car that has less power stock. it is nicer to buy the 09 and have that extra power, unless you are getting a whole new turbo, intercooler, headers, up pipe, turbo back exhaust, intake manifold, block (possibly).
fyi adam, the only thing upgraded on the 09 (power wise) is a VF52 turbo as well as slightly larger intercooler. you change those 2 and youre faster than an 09
plus a tune for the turbo and intercooler, and then there are the handling changes. im not sure what it is exactly, but that factors in to how much more you would pay for an 08. thats why i would say get an 09 if youre not going to want to spend much money on mods(turbo+supporting mods, suspension)
while you're completely right, your example is not. 04 sti is inferior to 05+ sti, in many different areas that likely would not be touched by typical modifications
I love my 08, I don't know how it matches against 06-07 but I know it dominates 02, Because I upgraded from 02. While it might be simple looking, I believe it to perform just as well. Isn't that the idea behind a good DD tuner? Building a fantastic sleeper? I'm ok with blending in and then kicking someones ass on the track.
True true. big fan of sleepers. HOWEVER the 08 has some weight issues. It also seems to be less efficient in getting power to the ground than the Evo. As a subie guy I hate to say it but it's true. It's not a bad car, but for the price it needs to step up performance wise as well. If you start with a handicap(weight/power issues) it will take more tuning and weight reduction to meet the same standard. I'm looking at it from an off the lot value perspective. Sleeper Respect!
I meant the Impreza family in general(STI specifically when comparing to the EVO). The new one is heavier, and has a more disconnected feel than the old models. They have slowly made this progression from the last drive-by-cable throttle in 2003 to electronic assist steering on the new models. They are less of a driver's car and more of a commercial mainstream vehicle. If it could be in both categories I would have no problem but Subaru is heavily favoring the mainstream market as of recently.

AWD isnt just for winter driving.
For all you people that don't know, I swapped into a VF40, Perrin TMIC and it's tuned by Clark Turner. The car dyno'd at 265HP with 330 ft/lbs of torque on a 97 degree day at 5300' elevation

The guy just said he has an accessport, which means he has a tune. There is nothing wrong with the 2008... It's the same TD-04 turbo that's been in every WRX to date.

Yes, and that is what the new one looks like. A disposable car-made for the mainstream normal looking consumer market not the spirited driver. the old car was edgy, which reflected its capabilities. The new one is rather boring, in looks especially, but driving as well. These individuals are commenting solely on looks. Subaru should have considered the people who are die-hard subie drivers and have been turned off by the new model rather than worrying only about sales(which plumeted btw)
