i already installed the original ms dos on an athlon xp computer with 1,8ghz... the computer was laying around, so i tried something with it, it even worked... but i had to change the 80gb hard drive into 1gb
Imagine DOS: DOS: Which drive would you like to install DOS to? Me: C:\ DOS: Initializing insta-- ONE TERABYTE?!?! (BSoD) Me: Ctrl Alt Delete DOS: Which drive would you like to install DOS to? Me: C:\... DOS: C:|... unrecognizable Me: Ah, fuck it. YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING!!!
even my good old 386DX40 would run faster. your pentium runs slow beacuse you didnt optimised (spelled coreect?) it. too much boot-stuff no one needs...
But correct me, if i'm wrong: this is an old fat16 dos-platform, with old win3.1 . modern viruses are written for winXP (fat32 or others) and up (vista) , think they could not work with the old dos-platform, or can they?
But i think its more important to make them small as possible and not compatible with all platforms.
i think, if you use your old pentium you don't need a scanner as long as you scan the disks you are working with ( i only scan them before the first run).
Of course i use an avs on my current system i'm online with (sorry about my bad english, i'm from germany) but not on my 386DX, it just takes too much time while booting
It's nice to keep old memories with such machines. Not like those jackasses who always try to make of video of destroying something that's outdated and upload it on youtube.
no, it wasn't, i remember back in 3.1 400mb is harddrives were already midrange mainstream. 85mb would have been sad even in 3.1 era. i guess its like having a 40gb harddrive now.
win 3.1 was an application that ran on top of DOS. It wasn't an operating system until win95. the long boot is due to a virus scan running after dos boots, but before win 3.1 starts.
I always liked Acer. That model was built for windows 95 (in the US), did you downgrade it to Winows 3.1 ? All windows her in the US that run windows 95 are slow, i think in part from hooking them online and spyware programs from he internet. I love old Acer computers and have 3.
well no, because that's on a windows 95 era pc with a pentium mmx processor (133mhz) and will probably have 16mb ram. a typical windows 3.1-era pc would have a 25 mhz 386 and 4mb ram
yeah, that computer is from the windows 95 era so would have probably come with 16mb ram and a 2gb hard drive. those pentium 133mhz mmx processors weren't that bad back in the day. he just opened it up and stuck an old 85mb hard drive with win3.1 on it. a win3.1 computer would have like for example a 25mhz 386 and 4mb ram....

i had a sudden urge to track down a 3.1 CD and dual boot from it, to relive my childhood. Imagine how that would go:
Windows: Which disk would you like to install windows 3.1 to?
Me: C:
Windows: Installin....wha....wait.....5 ...500 gigabytes?
Windows: WHAT IS THIS? A FREAKING SPACE STATION?!?

any one who has a brain .
you can get a virus that dosent excecute in windows but does on reboot.
most of the new av programs scan during boot but you dont see it like you do in the old dos days

ok, i have no brain ;)

OK, call me stupid, i don't care.

virues can be made to run on any platform to day.
back in the dos days many viruses were written hence the start of the dos scan days
