@julianrumney its pretty damn obvious cos his talking about it being a midi controller pretty much gives it away but ill assume u dont know about this kinda stuff and plus u said please so i just cant leave you hanging like this .the answer is in short no u cant directly load samples onto the mpd and you would need need software with samples on them and connect the mpd via midi to trigger the samples, the mpd is only a controller device only.
@SordidClot dude i cant believe you bought this without knowing what it does i see that you posted this 1 year ago so i hope youve either sold it or learnt how it use it
@SordidClot you have to have software. it is just a midi controller, it sends information to a computer which then makes sound. It is like sheet music. You give the sheet music (the mpd) to a musician (a computer or synth) and the musician makes the actual sound
Are you able to controll when a beat is going to start? or when the lead is going to start? so you can use it to play live, only with this midi and a midi keyboard? :P
You know, with a company like AKAI, they could at least get someone that can demo the mpd24, not just point and read from the manual. Oh well, it's not like he's the product manager...wait
mine just came in today. talk about a pain in the ass! kinda cool, once I got it kinda working after about three hours of research/downloads. the program it came with didn't work, so I had to download FLS. good luck. if anyone has some tips lemme know =P
just ordered mine off of ebay for $149.00 and free ship. cannot fuckin wait till i get it. now if just gotta concentrate on getting a computer of my own, ha.
well the biggest differences between the mpc and the mpd24 are the mpc as u know has note repeat and tempo tap where as the mpd24 does not and the mpc has its own sound and the mpd24 has no sound on it because it's a midi controller (mmc) so it controls software cubase, reason, ableton whatever. the only way to get sound out of it is by using it with any one of those programs.
Anyone know how well this works with Sonar 7 ?, or if it would be better to use Cubase then import to Sonar? I have one coming in the mail, and if anyone has any experience with this unit and these programs your input would be appreciated!
myself an mpd 24 yesterday and can't wait to get around to mucking with it tonight. I'll hook it up to cubase / halion. Quite curious about hooking up the knobs, too, which might get tricky ;)
What's the main diff.? just the knobs? All im really lookin for is roll (note repeat) really. I not really concernd' wit knobs 2 much. But how do the banks feature work on the MPD? Do you assign samples threw the AKAI software, or do you do that threw PROtools, Logic, Reason?
i just received one for my birthday, but i dont even know what to do with it, i mean im a gutar player and the person gave it to me thinking that it might be useful for me but the truth is that i dont even know what it is
You use your computer to load, crop, and edit your samples that you put on the pads. The MPD just triggers the sounds through your computer software. It's simply a midi controller.
I've got question to all users of this padkontrol and/or akai mpd24. I will buy one of this but I'm still undecided which one to choose? If someone can give me good advice and point out advantages or disadvantages of those two pad controlers.
If you use reason 3 and Battery 3 you will not be dissapointed. Comes with a lite version of BDF but don't really use it. Pads can be easily tuned to suit depends on how you like to tap your beats out.
There's two functions that allow this, Pad Sensitivity and Velocity curve, once you've got it have a play around with them to find the settings that suit your tapping style. Note repeat is not included but you can always recreate it with your softsampler, Get battery3
~200€ equals around 240 US$ not that expensive, just ask your local hardware dealer or maybe order one at e.g. thomann(dot)de(/)gb(/)akai_mpd_24(.)htm remove brackets
1. It goes coocoo in FL Studio 7 works alright for a couple mins then starts playing random notes, maybe ma system ain't configured right I don't know.

great salesman, until he messed up on the price part, still sold to me.
This looks crazy! It's like an MPC for a computer! I just want to know if this will let you do the "note repeat" function MPC's are famous for. You know, every time you hold down a pad, it repeats the same note. MPC users know what i'm talking about.

Two faults I found with this unit so far are
1. It goes coocoo in FL Studio 7 works alright for a couple mins then starts playing random notes, maybe ma system ain't configured right I don't know.
2. Works perfect in Reason but always tunes bank 5 in redrum to the left so I always have to check before hitting rec. Otherwise Reason 3 and MPD24 is a match made in heaven. Works good with NI Battery 3 as well for MPC style production.

To change Padcurve follow same procedure but you going to page 5 set the curve to A using the same knob coz A is the weakest while D is the hardest meaning you'd have to hit em really hard, press (>) to go to save page push knob down to save and hit the presets button to come out of settings. And that's that the slightest touch willgive u maximum velocity.
