I like to slice Rigilene into individual filaments, and space beads along them. You can steam knots in between them, and make dangly, sort-of cockades with them.
Thanks for your comments. Actually if you use high quality duppioni silk with little slub, it is similar to working with cotton. The tension on your machine is a regular setting around 4. Granted you have to be aware of the silk stretching, it's no different from sewing any natural fiber in a medium weight.
Where has this been all my life?! Omigosh! I'm going to have to watch this a couple of times to really figure out all the measurements and which piece goes were and all of that but this really expanded my limited field of knowledge. AWESOME!
What type of sewing machine are you using?

$20.00 is not a nominal fee for a pdf tutorial and pattern. I love the hat, but the price is waaaaay too much!

What is the name of the white card like stuff she was using ...I gather thats to give the hat it's stiff shape?

@2009ginasweetie I didn't read the instructions, but it's probably a heavy interfacing, or bulkrim.

This is a really difficult way to make a silk hat.
. Be warned - working with silk is not easy. It frays quickly and you have to make sure the tension on your machine is correct.
Still- I loved the hat,
