  • The comments here seem to prove the point that his platform is a non issue with voters. You are all talking about hid position on social issues when above all else, it's the influence of money in politics that must be addressed and solely why Roemer is running - to draw attention to this important issue.

  • Why is the media afraid of this guy Buddy Roemer???

  • First, all politicians should clam up about personal matters, and government should get OUT of homes and hospital rooms. Ron Paul is NO libertarian—he picks and chooses; he's a hybrid.. He doesn't believe in women's right to choose; he wants all fetuses brought into the world. His position on gay rights is unclear. The only true Libertarian is Gary Johnson. I am intellectually challenged by Ron Paul, esp, in economics, but I instinctively cannot trust him.

  • @ClaireConrad I'm extremely pro-choice and pro-homosexual rights and I trust Ron Paul. As to the pro-choice issue, I will admit that Ron Paul's stance on it bothers me, but at the same time, I can understand the idea behind it-- he sees the unborn child as an individual. In that light, I don't see it as an evil on his part, but as a misguided sense of good, inherited by his religious beliefs. But on the other hand, I like that he's been taking heat from pro-life groups because he defends the

  • @ClaireConrad authority of a state to decide how to enforce any federal law on abortion through the votes of its people. They say it effectively defeats the point and purpose of a federal mandate, which is true. I know it's not the best stance, but it also shows that he's reasonable and willing to reach a compromise, that he doesn't want to outright impose his beliefs, and that he fundamentally doesn't believe in the federal government's authority to implement these rules absolutely.

  • @ClaireConrad I feel pretty sure that states that allowed abortion would be better off in every sense than states that didn't, and Ron Paul's beloved sense of the free market would demonstrate that as much as anything. So I don't fear him in that regard.

As for gay marriage, he obviously has no problem with it. He feels that it's the relationship between a man and a woman because of his religious upbringing, and he doesn't think the federal government should be involved in any legislation

  • @ClaireConrad regarding sexuality. I disagree. I think there should be an amendment to the constitution that declares absolutely that ALL legislation on every level should be blind to sexuality. On the other hand, I know for a fact that Ron Paul believes that marriage should not be a function of the state, meaning that it would no longer be possible for heterosexual couples to be "legally" married. They would have the same exact legal contract as a homosexual couple. And their "marriage" would

  • @ClaireConrad be a religious (see: imaginary) contract that had no bearing on finance or law, carried out by the church. I, personally, think this is the best solution to the problem as well (although I maintain that the the Constitution itself should be amended to disallow any legislation concerning sexuality)

TL;DR Ron Paul's crazy religious views are not as threatening as they seem when you get to know him.

  • I'm an avid Ron Paul supporter, but still can't help liking this guy after doing research on him. How come an accomplished politician, ex-congressman & ex-governor isn't allowed in debates, yet a random Pizza CEO guy was? Fact is, Buddy Roemer would have brought a lot to the debates.

  • Home boy, you need to reconsider your stand on a few issues. You may need to rethink a few. Otherwise, I am pleased to hear a Rep speak a little common sense! It's a start!

  • Damn I like what he says more than Ron Paul

  • Roemer is still very socially conservative and has not changed his mind on gay rights or womens rights - he's against them. If you want someone to tackle money in politics then great, but why does it have to be a FAR-right Republican?

  • @DriveIn84 Roemer is VERY subdued on social issues; wisely, he deemphasizes them; he must realize that Presidents have NO role in them, so why discuss them? I saw him say he vetoed a State pro-life bill because it did not protect the life of the mother. On gays, I heard him say that although the word marriage is for man/woman, he is for liberty in all ways for homosexuals, does not want to mix into private lives. So think again about Roemer. He is more on the liberty side.

  • @ClaireConrad I'm not taking away from Roemer, by the way. I love Roemer deeply.

  • @ClaireConrad I love him more than Paul. But in Paul, I see a greater chance for the achievement of the kind of things that Roemer is all about, and that's the way I'm voting.

  • The fact that a lying, corrupt, hypocritical sociopath like Gingrich is in first place while Roemer languishes in obscurity is hilariously depressing, with an emphasis on the latter. I absolutely despise the modern Republican party but would vote for this guy in a heartbeat. I by no means agree with him on everything but his central argument about the institutionalized corruption in Washington is spot-on and exactly what this nation should be concerned with.

  • ron paul isnt even libertarian. he's an anti federalist anybody who actually knows a thing about political terminology/political science knows there is a difference.

  • "This is about America Rachel, something's wrong in our system, and it's special interest money." Rock on, Buddy!

  • People will respond to a candidate who makes sense given enough exposure. I'm listening.

  • Ron Paul's an old idiot. Watch more of Buddy please. Ron Paul is ludicrous!

  • Sorry Governor, if money is speech, then rich people have more speech -- how can that be fair? There's a reason its called FREE speech.

  • I hate both parties, but this guy is very interesting.

  • I'm proud to be a Roemer Democrat! If you believe our system of government has been corrupted by Wall Street and if you're tired of watching factories close and tens of thousands of Americans get discarded as their jobs are sent offshore, Buddy is your candidate, too!

  • Paul is against Roemers ideas....Paul thinks if everyone just works hard voila...things will get better....thats a myth

  • @MrCava1ier Sorry but Ron is not who I thought he was. I'm not all for a kill or be killed mentality society. Or a society where we say fuck people with problems. And that's who he is. As a Liberal I just heard about this Buddy Roemer gentlemen. I like his candor. Even being a liberal, well, to keep it simple I call myself a liberal although I also have conservative and libertarian beliefs I'm wanting to hear more from this man. And I hope more people do too. Not saying I'll vote for him yet.

  • If you get the GOP nod you will be the first person I ever vote for and even if you dont I may register just to write you in. Ive never before because I knew it didnt matter Obama-McCain... theyre both taking checks from Big Oil and AIG... so either way your voting for big business. Keep up the Good Fight! Youll trounce them in a debate especially Romney and Perry.

Donated 50 yesterday and youll get another 50 when I do, God bless.

  • Paul/ Roemer 2012!!!!!!!!

  • @Edgrr that's where i'm leaning

  • Who makes the decisions on who gets to participate in the debates or not? The RNC or someplace else? It would be nice to see the organization that makes the decision get tons of phonecalls and emails of concerned citizens wondering why Buddy Roemer isn't in the debate. There are several people that I wish were in the debate but that I wouldn't vote for, Sarah Palin and Donald Trump mainly, but I would love to see Buddy Roemer in the debate and I would hands down vote for him in the election.

  • @MrCava1ier

Not a bad idea at all ;)

  • What I find most troubling, and it was troubling before I was aware of who Buddy Roemer was is that the American people are not appalled that big business and the media are choosing the presidential candidates for them (case in point choosing who will and will not be involved in a debate). That's not a government "By the people, for the people, of the people"...that's "By the richest/powerful, for the richest/powerful, of the richest/powerful"...Sad.

  • @diamonda2u try not to give up. At least finally there is one candidate who is "Being the change they wish to see in the world". I mean ive heard plently politicans play lip service to "campaign finance reform" and never do anything once they get elected. Buddys doing it the way it should be done. And maybe they have money and power, but THIS IS AMERICA!!! money doesnt buy votes one person one vote. Money buys tv ads... and maybe that mattered before youtube and facebook but its our time now!!

  • WOW! Im still for Ron Paul, but your now my #2 candidate, and you WILL be at one of the debates, because you will get more and more exposure, as your message gets across!!

  • @HalfBornUnicornFetus Ron Paul thinks government can't do anything right and that the private sector will take care of everything. He's right about the latter belief, but that could change if campaign finance and special interest groups are regulated. That way our politicians don't have to campaign three out of every four years. As for the free market business, I'll tell you right now if Philly loses it's public schools, no one is making money opening a school there, and those kids are fucked.
