  • Livin in a world they didn't make, paying for a lot of adult mistakes, how much of this madness can they take the children. SMH!! Love love love this song.

  • 3800670 you can buy this song from iTunes or other music websites for like $.99. You can also buy the album online or in stores. It's a older album but it's not hard to find to find, just look it up.

  • very good man a song like this with so much imagery makes it easy to visualize how to make a video for this song Janet is the best

  • very poignant video to all of humanity.. thanks for making and posting!!

  • I've always loved this song and thought it was the heart and soul of Janet's Rhythm Nation album... well done on the video. Very powerful and tearful....

  • Wow.....this is rely heartbreaking. tears me up tht ppl go through this. I mean How Much rely Can We Take! I agree w a number of you tht said singers in this generation need songs like janets talkin about racism, abuse and all the wrong things goin on in the world. Thts one of the reasons I wanna be a singer so i can address these issues. Music today isnt like the way it used to be!

  • Very powerful song with a very powerful meaning.

Great video :] the beginning brings tears to my eyes :'[

  • When I was at a comedy nightclub, a stand-up comic asked another patron where she was from. She said Stockton. Then the comic made jokes about the massacre which happened at at schoolyard. I thought how could he, poking fun at deadly violence.

  • @ervicito77

Very touching video, it represents the song very well.

I did 1 sort of similar back in November with the same song n all, only the footage and photos were based on the actual event that inspired the song (The Stockton Massacre or "The Cleveland School Massacre").

I mean, it's not PREFECTLY synced together with the photos on beat like urs lol,

but i think it's pretty decent.

You should check it out sumtime:

  • Kudos for doing this video. Good job. Puts me in the mind of Man in the Mirror.

  • This was one of the most beautiful songs Janet made. This video is very raw and disturbing. I can not ever fathom children holding guns, basically being bred to hurt and kill people. The way this video was made did match the song.

  • one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard . reminds me so much of what Michael would sing about :'( <3

  • how sad

  • I can play this song everyday,so I can do something on the inside of me that i hav no power to control...haiti and other places,I can only say one thing America put up or shut up,most of the time you do nothing nothing but talk..

  • It's music like this that makes Janet the QUEEN OF POP over Madonna and all the others. Rhythm Nation, Livin' In a World (They Didn't Make), The Knowledge, New Agenda, What About, all of these songs and so many more attack the most major issues in the world, and on top of that, she can perform and write music and dance that is sexy, compelling and full of talent. TOP THAT MADONNA! I DARE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Right on Brotha/Sista!

  • I'm a guy, but lol

  • @janetfan2010 I agree with this, except I feel that Janet sings more of R&B based music rather than pop.

  • Wonderful song Janet is amazing...like Michael ='( Heal the World....i love u so much my love i miss u....beautiful viideo!

  • It's because of song's like these that Rhythm Nation 1814 is Janet's coronating achievement. Such power, such depth, what beautiful music. Janet, my dear, please make something of relevance again. This is part of what we love about you.

  • When I hear the strings in this song they make me think of lost innocence. That's what violence does to children. It robs them of their innocence.

  • Powerful lyrics.

  • When I was at a comedy nightclub one day,one of the stand-up comics asked another patron where she was from. She said Stockton. Then the comic made fun of the massacre that happened at a schoolyard there. I thought how could he, poking fun at deadly violence.

  • ii just want to say my heart goes out to those who had been abuse or had dealt with any violence..sorry..

  • This is devistating. My dance class is doing part o our dance to this song. My teacher said she did it when she was younger. its really sad all of the lives lost because of some really horrible and insane people.

  • Yes, I did. I felt the need to.

  • @ervicito77 had to be done

  • Was this the original video of the song?

I Love Janet Jackson, her carreer is full of so many beautiful songs!!!!!!!

  • No, there was never an official video for this song. There should have been though.

  • Did you do this video by yourself?

  • OMG! @ 2:16

  • Hearing those screams on a tape at the age of 10 was pretty eye-opneing. This is definitely one of my fave songs.

  • Moving video. Really touching. Thank you for posting.

  • I used to listen to this as a child.. Knowing adults have issues.. This song meant a lot to me, thanks for posting!!

  • this had me in tears, the beginning gave me chills amazing job i wish the new generation singers could make songs like this instead of drugs and killing

  • Thanks, MissLC21. You're right. Singers these days need to focus more on tough issues, especially in this day and age when it seems things are worsening in our society today. Thanks for the comment :)

  • where can you download this song ?

    awnswer back !!!!!!!!

  • Try limewire. It's called Livin' in a world (they didn't make), from Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814 album from 1989.

  • @ervicito77 dont tell people to download Janet's music illegally!

  • @joetj Lol!

  • It is off the Rhythm Nation album, and if you like your computer be smart and stay away from Limewire.

  • one of the best and my favourite songs from janet....so moving....

  • It doesn't get any better than her Rhythm Nation album. In a time today when we see so many troublesome times, we need more songs like these from Janet.

  • We have to stp sepertaing people into groups! we are all people who love and cry and care. We have to stop this now. like the song says we can't keep paying for the mistakes of people before us we have to make a change.

  • Well, Ssspongebob. We've become such an isolated and segregated society, we have all forgotten how to truly take care of one another. This is why there is so much misunderstanding, corruption, hatred, and violence in the world today. Expressing love to someone new everyday, even a complete stranger, is a step in the right direction towards healing. Thanks for taking the time to comment, Ssspongebob.

  • So true...we've become isolated and segregated because we live in a culture of fear.

  • Awesome!

  • Thanks, Sean23bklyn.

  • much much respect for this hats off to you very moving and powerful. thank you

  • Thanks for the compliment. And you're welcome, leo469nw.

  • Impressed! what the hell, there was a school shooting!!!! i dance to this song in lyrical, a school shooting shouldent be impressing!

  • This is song is meant to open our eyes about school violence. Although the song was released in 1989, it seems more meaningful these days as school violence is unfortunately ongoing and on the rise. If you were impressed by the song and video, I'm glad, because it shows that the message certainly got through.

  • i thought it was an documentary or sumthin. lol

  • Man dat was amazing. could have been a real video.

  • No one knew why Patrick Purdy did that, but investigators interviewed relatives and friends, and it was speculated that Patrick was upset that Asian refugees, who of a majority attended the school, was taking all the jobs from Americans. He also attended that school.

  • Thanks for the comment, atakproductions. I never knew the original story behind this song by Janet. Being an Asian myself, this hits home more than ever. That is a truly sad and tragic story.

  • This was the very reason why I came to this website-to see if someone made a slide with this song, because I was about to do it, but you did a VERY good job!!!! I love this song. Janet said that her, Jam and Lewis made this song because she was distraught over what happened that year in Stockton,Ca at Clevland Elementary School, where a young man named Patrick Purdy took an assult rifle and opened fire on the playground, killing 5 kids, and injured 29, then he killed himself.

  • Good job!

  • Thanks, Dizzybubble.
