Yeah this is so old school that wearing short trunks without kneepads or clothing mattered to anybody who would work a barbed wire match like that! -_-
Barbed wire matches go back to the 70s for sure and maybe the 1960s
This is from Dick The Bruiser's WWA promotion from Michigan and Indiana from the mid-1980s. Dr. Jerry Graham Jr. and Chris Carter vs. Scott Rexsteiner (the given name of Scott Steiner) and Cowboy Rex Bode (sp?)
@yardlet6 I grew up watching the show out of a Fort Wayne TV station every Saturday at noon, but memories kind of blend together. Graham was the top heel for years, working with Bulldog Don Kent and The Great Wojo. Late in the run of the promotion he turned face.
@RayNDeere I thought the glory days were in the sixties when Wilbur Snyder and the Bruiser were wrestling in Tyndal Arena. Even David Letterman was a fan.
Rare footage of Scott Steiner just starting out in Bruiser's WWA.

In my opinion this is the better kind of barbedwire match, where the ropes are wrapped as opposed to just completely removed
