  • I have been a master tech for 25 yrs. japan auto makers have perfected making practical, efficient and affordable cars. mb and bmw usually have the new stuff first srs, abs, vvt. but there are pricey and expensive to fix.

  • How is the inner cam sprocket shifted? What actuates it?

  • @toranacar im guessing oil pressure controlled by a solenoid

  • @snake109 thanks

  • How is the inner cam sprocket shifted? What actuates it?

  • One thing I still haven't got of this system is, through where does the oil flow to apply pressure on the vanes, both in the advance and retard situations?

  • vvti = stolen from bmw

  • @BeeEmmW LOL Honda fool

  • @WarlDogg not talking about the shit VVTI, it's called M-tech created in the 70's by BMW. later developed as 'Vanos' in 1991 for commercial vehicles. then a double vanos for DOHC engines

    europeans, far far ahead

  • @BeeEmmW Im interested in what you say but cant find any info. To my understanding M-tech was just a tweak with a aero kit on it, and veribale vanes were a new way to ditch the old tapered widget that controls timing veribales. Im not doubting you and am sorry for callin fool but dont think bmw would waste there time on trying to make a M series car more economical? Please point me in a direction so I can learn bout this M-tech. :)

  • @WarlDogg The Mtechs were much more efficient. for example the M30B35 (1973 3.5L il6 sohc) produced 218HP at about 10L/100km on highway, yet the M5 3.2 il6 1975(-ish) got 288HP at about 9/100 on highway

M-tech was/is wayyy more than an aero kit, the engine is fully blueprinted, hand made (Vanos/ D-Vanos), tighter ignition timing (to the 0.00001 of a sec) ect... The turbo M 3.2 of 1975 produced 480HP. look at nissan 40 years later R35, still cant get more than what bmw had 40 years ago

  • @WarlDogg as for direction on vanos try wiki, they only cite it to 1992 but i know it was 1991

  • @BeeEmmW LOL talked to mech at my old job n he said the exact same thing SHIZA..... never new much bout BMW exept i want Mseries thanx 4 the imput, he also said Renult had there hand in there same time but stuck to just turbo (Group B I guess)

  • @WarlDogg lol... for a quick history on bmw engines (WWI) watch: dPClmFM0RcU

  • @BeeEmmW just read on a page ford used a similar setup in the 60's and before that fiat and alfa.... you got me looking now lol ;)

  • So how can I tweak my VVT-i to permanently advance the timing for more power?

  • @ahausheer Piss it of all together, its only so good so far! After market cam's with a longer duration on the lobe and some adjustable gears to manually retard and advance is what your thinking ;)

  • So basically it doesn't have any intelligence when the cam is retard ;D

  • @chriserz94 Hahahaha yes the special gear varies the amount of intellegence in the cam from advanced to retarded! :)

  • I own a celica and I'm really pruoud, for a 140bhp it is fuckin fast and very economical!

  • @Supralover79 u shud get da 180 bhp dude

  • how smart is it. brilliant !!

  • @ILOVEHIACE30 how about bmw mercedes ??? have you ever thought of brilliance there ???

  • @cataha Yes, Mercedes is brilliant (not for BMW), most of the Germans are good. But we can't forget Japanese's technology at all, they just have many good ideas that Germans still have not thought of, eg. Valvematic, VVT, D4-S, i-VTECH.......

  • @ILOVEHIACE30 Japan known for good chip-sets on a mobos but when it comes to metals gears heat etc... they have to learn a little more about it.

    According to my knowledge.

MB-BMW invents, designs, implements and then after some thing new comes up they sell it too Japs,

Or BMW-MB-Etc supports racing team(s) thenafter implements their NEW ideas in their mass production cars

    THAT IS German Engineering

  • @ILOVEHIACE30 Variable valve timing was first put into place by Alfa Romeo.

The Japanese merely build copies of existing ideas.

    They do not innovate.

  • @ILOVEHIACE30 Also, direct injection is a German invention.

First 4wd rally car - German

    First jet engines - German

First automatic assault rifle (as we know them today) - German

    Carburetors - German (Mercedes Benz)

    Z3 - World's first working programmable computer - German

Rotary & Diesel engines - German (Mazda only develops them now)

Lastly, the first 'real' car ? - German

..DO I need to keep going ?

  • @picmario In wich was is/was that engine available? I feel confident to say it never got past the prototype stage.

  • @bonecrime It is found in many toyota cars for example the toyota corolla altis and more

  • @jxpjax I don't doubt that, but what I was talking about was the Saab engine with variable compression that picmario mentioned.

  • @jxpjax its found in every toyota, lexus, and scion buddy, not just many

  • What is the intelligence?? Just wondering!

  • so much for vacuum advanced distributers

  • The Alfa Romeo engines made such a lot sooner.

  • @MrTorokt ; hoor, you are correkt, alfa first to use VVT on produktion auto, much

    befor honda even

  • i have a 2ltr deseil carina 271 th miles....going good

  • Now it needs Variable Compression !! Never seen that before in production engines

  • they make toyota like they made the Zero. nips are genius to make things.

  • Can anyone tell me where the VVT solenoid is on a 2000 prizm and how to change/replace my non-responsive one.?

  • japs know how to make a supreme engine. my 2005 camry has 100k miles and never a problem. rides like new. nips are genius.

  • @Rico8458

My 2002 Grand Marquis have more than 250k miles and the motor and the transmition never had any issues. My daddy for himself, has a 2002 Corolla with around 160k miles and the motor won't make another 100k. You could easily hear it touching the end (and he assume it). Plus I will add that he had to change his MANUAL transmition once, even if my daddy isn't a ricer...

Anyway, that was my 2 cents stay with the car you like.

  • @g18ans

humm it really depend on how well you change your oils, and maintiance. my 01 rolla is at 121K with no engine problems, no leakage, nothing. motor looks really clean.

  • @Rico8458 lmao!
