To this day, I still get moved every time I am at a parade and hear it and see those new Marines marching past. It all comes back to me. The parade grounds at MCRD San Diego, the drilling, the marching, the barracks. You never forget. I look at my girls and they know that Dad was in the Marines. I raised my girls to respect our men and women in uniform and it makes me proud every time they see one of them and they walk up and just say thank you. Thanks to all serving now. If you want to revisit the Rifleman's Creed, you can always slip a copy of "Full Metal Jacket" into the vcr. The oath? That was too many decades ago to bring forward from this old marine's memory. Eihge nailed the Latin for Semper Fidelis, and he's right. The true words wouldn't be easy to pronounce.

It also taught me to shine my shoes. And it also taught me the M-14 is a "gas-operated, air cooled, magazine-fed shoulder weapon". There are just some things you never forget and I actually had to sleep with that beautiful rifle in my rack a few nights.
